We just filled the furnace for the Winter, have you yet?

Wow, I'm grateful to live where we do! We have gas heat. Our utility bills which include gas and electric average about $125/month. In the summer, we keep the A/C set to 77 (sometimes 75 if it's 95 degrees or worse outside) and when it gets cold we keep the house at 57 during the day when no one is here and 65 when we're here. I can't imagine paying those huge bills!

Our heat is gas, piped in. My husband likes things cool. I have a pot belly stove, missed having a fire place. Not sure how warm things stay with a pot belly stove. But between that and my electric blanket hopefully we will keep the costs down.

We have a big old 1870's farmhouse with a woodstove smack dab in the middle of the downstairs. We just bought 10 cords of firewood for $600 which will keep the house at 72 degrees all winter (it goes down to abut 62 at night). We will have to buy some heating oil for the furnace at some point because we will be gone for a week in November and the dog/house sitter doesn't want to mess with the wood!
As long as DH is willing to mess with it, we will stick with wood.
Summers, we have window units running a lot (we hate to sleep in a stuffy room) but in those months the electric bill is still around $110/month. Propane for the hot water heater and clothes dryer run about $200 quarterly.
I guess our utilities are pretty low!

We filled up in the spring time when oil was on sale (yeah, sale, sure..).

OK wait we didn't fill up, we just bought the minimum amount of oil-around 500-600 gallons. For some reason we just got a fill up a few weeks ago when it was 100 out & only got 30 gallons. We average about 30 gallons a month in the winter.

Oh & we have a pellet stove so that is our main heating source. Between pellets & oil I think we spent around $3000 this year, if that, possibly less. But the oil will last us for a few years.
