My wife and I are back from our no-kids DL trip, and we had a great time! It rained on and off and was cool to cold, but we enjoyed ourselves anyway. Here is the quick and dirty.
Overall, somewhat cold and wet, but not too bad. We brought rain jackets and were ready to wander around in the cold. It did not rain all that much overall, but it was wet at times. Wed, the crowds were light and rides were walkons. Thursday the weather was nicer (shorts, short sleeves, and a windproof vest for me), which meant more crowds and slower lines. Single rider at Indy is AWESOME!!! My wife and I beat 65 minute waits by using single rider and we did some repeat rides three times in a row! Thanks for tips everyone!
Vons rocks, and GCH took our order without our presence even though it included alcohol. We just let bell services know in advance. The Villas are great, and the little studio kitchenette is very useful. We had a partially obstructed DCA view in 4510. BTW, the fitness center is nice. My wife and I went in and worked off our goodies and gave us more incentive to splurge later
Harold's limo service is very nice. He is a little more chirpy than I preferred, but he was professional, timely, and curteous. The limo is showing a little age, but overall it was a nice treat.
Napa Rose Chef's Counter is outstanding. We were chatted up by the assistant executive chef and the executive chef too! I learned, though, that you can request to split the Vintner's Menu, which would have been better. It is really just too much food, and quite frankly, the most expensive dinner my wife and I have ever had
Screamin and Tower of Terror fastpasses are still disconnected from DL fastpasses. We had fastpasses for both tower and screamin but were able to get space and indy fastpasses without a problem.
World of Color was cancelled the only night that we could see it due to high winds, but it looked like it would be worthwhile to see. Also, there is a ton of construction going on at DCA, and wihile I knew about it, it was really something else alltogether to see in person. If I was only going to go every other year, I would pass until everything is done.
In the end, while I had pangs of guilt for not bringing the kids, it was truly worth it for my wife and I to do. We were able to take our time, skip Fantasy Land and Toon Town, shop at liesure along Main Street, and skip Aladin at the last minute to go get drinks at Tortilla Joes. The freedom of being able to hang out at the Hearthstone Lounge in the GCH as long as we waned was so nice, and something to really relish as busy parents.
Thanks to everyone who helped an provided encouragement and advice. We had a great time and look forward to going again in a few years, but this time with our kids
