We have a question: Will a visit to WDW during the holidays take AWAY from Christmas?

We are avid holiday folks. My husband and i have triplets that are 4 and a 12 yo all girls. We where thinking about doing Halloween now i kinda would like to go during december for the girls to see WDW at christmas. The ONLY problem is my husband seems to think this might take away something from our holidays. We do a lot of shopping and have a big christmas a home. I was thinking of taking the girls to the MVMCP on a friday then Osburn lights on saturday then the mk on sunday then home staying on site at the WL. So we are talking a three night stay. Can any one offer me your experience on this? We have never done a trip in December anywhere and have done Us/IOA the weekend after christmas and it was so fun but expensive. We'd like to do christmas for the added time we could use to save even more money for the trip. I'd really appreciate some advise from your holiday lovers that also visit WDW during the season of chirstmas time too. How did it go for you? Did you find you had enough time to enjoy your trip and do everything you wanted before Santa came to your house? :)

Not only will it not "take way" from your holidays but it will "add" to them. We try to go annually in December (first or second week) to "get us in the holiday spirit" which we find to do the trick exceptionally well. We too are big on the holidays in my family and have always enjoyed visiting WDW during early December as the festivities are incredible. I cannot go into enough detail about how nice it is there without understating it during the holidays. Think of how Disney does everything top notch and imagine how great that your holidays normally are - then combine the two!!! Tell your husband to rest assured it will make the holidays even better... I must warn you though, once you go during this season, you may find a new tradition in the making which may become disappointing if/when you cannot make it during this time.

What could be better that being in Disney when it is decorated for the holidays?
Really it does get you in the mood. The first year I went it was quite warm, so I thought I would have a hard time getting into the holiday season, but once you hit main street with the decorations and the trees in each of the parks and the Wilderness lodge is just beautifully decorated, you really get into the mood fast!
Defininately do a MVMCP it snows on main street and the Christmas Parade is the best. The Osborne lights in MGM are really amazing as well.
It really is a magical time of year.

I think it will add to your holidays. Be forewarned though: your family may want to go each Christmas!

Please don't flame me for this, it is IMO. We did Disney at Christmas last year, because I wanted to see the lights and decorations. They were awesome, better than I could have imagined. We had a blast crowds were really light (before Christmas Day) and we loved the time together. I even had PS at Liberty Tree Tavern, wonderful food, a traditional Christmas dinner for us. We put up a tree in the room and decorated with lights and things all around the room. On Christmas Eve and Christmas Day night we walked down MK and it snowed (bubbles) as though we were in a blizzard. Since the trip was our Christmas, we drew names between the 4 of us. We even set a limit of $50.00 which we have never done before. Now, all that said, we did loose the traditional Christmas for us. We didn't do the usual Christmas Eve service at our church, none of the usual surprise gift wrapping, my parents weren't with us, and we even went shopping in DTD on Christmas day. No Christmas dinner left overs and no just spending the time together on Christmas day playing games, watching TV, just spending time with each other. These are just a few of the traditions we missed out on. We were riding rides and mashed in a sea of people. There were so many people at MK they closed the park. I had never seen so many people. Anyway, I would go to see the decorations and lights, but not for Christmas anymore. As I said, this is just IMO. It really depends for your family enjoys and is used to. As you can see we love Disney and can't wait to go back. Hope this helps.
Sorry this was so long. :D

I know exactly what you are asking. I too am a holiday person and the thought of missing out on any of Christmas is bothersome to me...plus I have all the traditions. That being said this year my husband lost his job (but got another) and now his only week off is the week after Christmas. We thought and thought about going then but decided against it.

We have previously gone before Christmas for a shorter trip (long weekend) and that is what we have decided to do again...that way we get the best of both worlds.

Good luck

I think a trip before Christmas would set the mood perfectly. Also a good chance to pick up some Disney Christmas gifts. We also are huge Christmas fans and for that reason I could never go during the holiday itself. I neeeed my snow at Christmas.

Thanks everyone. I can't imagine being without my family during the actual holiday itself. I just thought the kids would like it better at christmas than at Halloween. I still have both ressie's held and i'm on the fence. It'd be nice to afford both but it's not an option. I would really like to go Halloween true be told but we two weekend trips already planned for October that can not be canceled and i just can justify adding a third trip to that month. Next year we will do HHN and MNSSHP and skip Bikeoctober fest in Daytona Beach. I appreiciate all of you taking the time to give me your adivise. We are looking at a short weekend trip from december 3-6 or 10-13th. I have a room at the WL on hold for the moment for the 3-6 dates so i need to make up my mind and pay up! LOL And order some tickets for the party. THanks again
