We just bought a pretty male Betta home. They had him blue water and I thought he was purple, but once I got him into his new tank he is white and red with a gorgeous red tail and fins with blue little stripes in his tail. :fish:

No name yet, I'm favoring Sushi or Bruce (from Finding Nemo) Any other name suggestions?

Also, does anyone know if I can put any other fish in there with him?

I think they prefer to be alone in a very small area, but it should be ok to put them with other fish.

Red, White and Blue?? - America!

Dont know about other fish. Im allergic to everything but humans!

Congrats! :smooth:

If he's in a small betta bowl don't add other fish... BUT, if he's in an aquarium its definitely fine to put friendly community fish in with him (watch semi-aggressive fish, they will nip his tail!) As a general rule of thumb, an aquarium can usually accomodate 1 inch of fish for every gallon of water.

Ours has even attacked other fish and little frog that the pet store said would be OK.

I thought Beta's aren't supposed to be with any other fish. Aren't they also called Siamese Fighting Fish?

As far as I know, they aren't supposed to be with other fish. I had mine in a goldfish - like bowl and he was happy as a pig in mud for the almost 3 years I had him. They are an aggressive fish - hence the name "Fighting Fish". I used to hold a compact mirror up to his tank once in a while just to watch him "attack" himself - it's pretty neat, but I wouldn't want him doing that to another fish in a tank.

Sounds like a cool fish! I think you should call him Liberty, too. Since he's red, white, and blue. :)

I forgot to add...

They're called Siamese FIGHTING fish because they fight the males of their own species. You absolutely cannot stick 2 male bettas in the same tank/bowl. They sometimes nip at the females too if it isn't breeding time.
