We were looking to add a feline to our ever-growing menagerie, and took a trip to our local Animal Control to see what they had for adoption. When we asked the staff member which cat's "time was almost up :( ", she showed us a tiny, fuzzy, cuddly tortishell & white female baby. She's so young that they've just gotten her off the bottle (she was a stray whom they believe got separated from her mother). The minute my DS8 held her, her motor started to go full throttle. Then, all he had to hear was that she was due to be euthanized the next day, and his eyes started welling up (he tried to be macho, but it wasn't working too well ;) ), and I knew she'd be coming home with us. Since it's Autumn, and she's got a lot of orange in her, we named her Pumpkin. We had our wonderful vet check her out, and he de-wormed, and de-flead her for free since she was a stray--how nice of him! Pumpkin is doing great, although I've always adopted older cats, and had NO IDEA that kittens have so much energy!!! She has fit in our household so well, and has even put a little spring into our nearly-blind ten year-old Chihuahua's step! We are having such a great time with her--I just had to share the joy! I may have to change my user name to luvmydogs&cat!

YAY!!!

Good for you!

I was juts thinking today how big my "baby" Kai has gotten, hes only 10 months old and still the sweetest thing ever ( especially compared to the little spitfire we adopted after we got him lol ) we love our kitties and the dog too but theres just something about the kitties ;)

A great big thanks for adopting a stray kitty!:D I'm so glad she's making your home a little furrier and happier.:teeth:

Awww! Congratulations on your new baby! We adopted our Cinders on the day she was to be put to sleep as well. She has got to be the sweetest kitty!

Here is a pic of her although that date is wrong....LOL! This is about a month old and she is bathing Dootsie although she isn't much older.

We also have a new kitten, I compare it to having a toddler in the house again!! Into everything!:D Have fun with "Pumpkin":D

I want to see pictures!!!!

I wish I knew how to post pictures! I can describe her though...She weighs only 1lb.14oz. Has that fuzzy baby fur in in orange tabby stripes, mixed with black. She's white on her chest, tummy, and all four paws. When she wants snuggle time, she'll meow very loudly until I make room for her on my lap. Her hobbies include torturing the family dogs (any of their extremities are fair game when she's in "attack mode"), climbing the drapes:mad: , and attacking imaginary creatures that seem to run around our house even though they cannot be seen by the rest of us. Krisu, you're right. It's EXACTLY like having a toddler in the house again! Cinders is so cute, Beauty!

Congratulations on your new addition :)

It's so wonderful that you got her the way you did! You can be proud! Have a blast with her!

Two years ago I got my 2 kittens (got them about 7 months apart). They love each other (and loved to torture the older 4 cats!) and their very favorite toy has been a sink made out of that parachute/nylon type material. It opens up so they can hide inside, and pounce on everyone as they go bye. I just bought them a tunnel made of the same material. We have found these things at the KB toy outlets, for between $5 and $10. Well worth the fun for the cats.

Kittens are truely a trip!! They're like toddlers!! Lots of energy..even at night!! Congratulations on your Pumpkin adoption, sounds like a very lucky kitten to me!! Your DS will lover her, kids & kittens are a great combination!

I must quickly say when I was a single 20 something living in my first apt I wanted a kitten and found a grey tiger striped kitten at a pet store in GA. She was so HYPER, I had a small apt and had nowhere to put her at night, she cried so loud from the bathroom.

She'd jump and play on my bed (on top me) all night! I couldn't take it so I took her back to the store!! Yeah, right!! The store owner told me she'd have no problem placing her because she was a long haired cat.

Well, when she put her back in the cage she began crying horribly.. Tasha's now 14 sleeping in my living room on the rocker (she thinks she owns the house)!

A true cat lover could not leave her back at the pet store!!;)

We also took in a calico (adult) who showed up on our back porch about 7 years ago, Patches. Now I know where the word "catty" comes from...they just hate each other, it is kinda comical though. Patches is totally clueless!

Enjoy Pumpkin, she'll be a lot of fun and create lots of great memories!!

She sounds darling. :) How wonderful!! I just love kitties. :)

If you want to get her to stop climbing the drapes, go out and invest in a tall cat tree. Best type are those that reach from floor to ceiling if your house/apartment/dwelling is set up right to use one. You may need to get one with an extention so it'll reach the ceiling if you have more than 8 foot ceilings. But that'll give her something permissible to climb, a haven away from the dogs, a way to feel more secure (the higher up cats are, the more secure they tend to feel as long as they're not trapped up there -- something about them surveying their territory I think). If she has one or more of those, she may stop climbing the drapes.

Congrats on your new kitty! We just got our kitty a couple of weeks ago and he is also extremely playful. He likes to climb the drapes, but he hasn't (I hope I don't jinx myself) since we got him his kitty tower.

Awwww she sounds so adorable!!!!! Congrats on the new addition!

I'm sorry, I love dogs but can't stand cats.
Had too much experience with the copious amounts of cats in my neighborhood deciding to come calling at my house whenever they like, not to mention fights between them in the middle of the night, or the charming droppings some of them like to leave in my garden!
Any pets we've had have been of the small cuddly variety, like guinea pigs, that I know I won't be inflicting on my neighbors. I just wish that they'd show me the same courtesy.
That said, I hope you are very happy with your new little acquisition.
