We just watched President Bush and Air Force One leave our local Air Force base after a brief stop in Spokane! The escort jets just flew over our home, signifying he has left our area.

Call us corny, but my two sons and I were so excited to wave at our president and to see Air Force One that close - they can't wait to tell Daddy they "saw his boss!"

Had to share our excitment with someone - Thanks for the opportunity!

NOTE: I posted just to share my family's excitement over such an important visit to our little neck of the woods. I'm not looking to start a political debate nor do I really care to be bashed or lectured to on why I shouldn't have been impressed by it all. Thank you! :wave2:

That is really neat, my kids would have loved to see Air Force One fly over us tonight before landing at Fort Lewis. Im sure that is something they will remember for ever! You can tell you DH  and Thank You from our family!

Great memory for your kids :D

I went to Baylor, which is of course, close to his ranch in Crawford. I never saw AirForce One flying over Waco, however; every time President Bush came to visit the local news would do a split-screen

When I first saw the split-screen I thought something had happened and that President Bush was going to give a press conference or something when he landed. No, it was just the Bushes visiting their ranch for the weekend  That is not exactly newsworthy IMO.

No bashing here. Even though my political feelings don't swing to the right, I would be thrilled to see the president. After all, he is the leader of our nation and I respect that.

Just one thought. I wish none of us had to feel we would be bashed for posting as you did.

I'm glad the president was there to raise the morale of the troops! :)

I agree that to see the President, whether or not I agreed with him politically, would be very exciting.

I have no real recollection of President Reagan in terms of his years in office(I was in my early 20's and not a political person) but I was overwhelmed at times with the ceremonies at his funeral.

I got to see President Reagan speak at my college in 1984, and I was thrilled--but people who didn't get into the speech were thrilled just to see the helicopters land and wave at him! It will be a great story for your kids to tell!

I am a die hard republican but when President Clinton came to our rural area of North Carolina I took my then 10 year old son to see him. My goodness, he was the President of the United States and that in itself deserves respect. Once again we had the opportunity to travel to Greensboro to see President George W. Bush a few years later and I took him out of school to go and listen to his speech. My son's teacher made some sort of snide remark about it and I made sure I let her know how I felt. This was an opportunity of a lifetime for this child to actually see and hear the current President of the United States and I didn't care what her political views were and I told her she should be encouraging this type of behavior not condemning it!! He's now seen as many Presidents in person as I have and I'm 30 years older than he is. I think any chance to see living history is a wonderful thing.::yes::

It really is a cool thing to see, regardless of who is President and who you support. I grew up very close to Andrews Air Force Base, and frequently would see Air Force One... very cool! Glad you got the chance!

Oh, I think that is super!!!! I agree it is a very special thing.

I remember during the 2000 presidential campaign, I was driving south on an expressway to a swimming class, I couldn't understand why their were police stationed at EVERY on ramp, off ramp, overpass and turn around with their lights flashing. Very strange. On my way back up north I saw the Gore motorcade driving south as I was driving north. No one was allowed to drive south bound near the motorcade. I was just excited to see that! So I understand your excitement!

How exciting ~ I feel your pride and share the thrill!!

We are lucky to live 45 minutes from the White House and even closer to Andrews AFB, so frequently see AF1 airborne.

Our president has a tough job, heavy burden on his shoulders and definitely needs our prayers as we stand united!

DH was very proud to be a carpenter at the WH during Reagan's term and enjoyed every minute!!

God Bless America ^i^

Proud Army Mom ::yes::

That is soooo cool! I would love to see the President in person. ::yes::

You must have felt very excited! It is a special thing to witness history and I am glad you were able to do so. I wish I could've been there to wave to him as well.

Kudos to all who respect the office when they have different political views! You are an inspiration and model for getting us out of the partisan swamp!

I would love to see Air Force One fly over but then I love to see anything fly over. I just like panes

I'm sure that was incredibly exciting! And I know your kids loved seeing their Daddy's boss! By the way - thank your husband for serving our country!! Our family is so thankful for our military!!

We love President Bush! One day last summer my sons and I went through Crawford. We drove out toward the ranch. When the President is there they close off the road at a certain point and have security stationed. We turned around, and asked if we could take a picture... they laughed - it would be a picture of a road.. and let us take a picture. They were very nice, and moved very quickly. As we headed back toward Crawford we passed a motorcade moving quickly - and realized they were there preparing for the President. We heard later that he had arrived that day..

A few months later, the President was in San Antonio. My husband works near an old Air Force base and drove by to see if he could see Air Force One on the field. He did and was THRILLED. As he was leaving the road by the flight line, a police office "stopped traffic" ( my hubby was the only traffic). A motorcade went by - and YEP it was the president... The police officer commented that he was SO glad that President Bush is our president. ... Laugh - my husband heartily agreed!

So our brushes with our President were only in cars... laugh... oh well!!!

Very cool!!

My husband is sitting right behind him right now (during his speech)! Yesterday they had to practice sitting, standing and clapping. I said that I hope our soldiers can handle THOSE simple tasks if we're trusting them with guns, grenades, mines, etc!! :teeth: I know it is standard procedure to do a "run-through"--it just struck me as amusing they had to practice those things. LOL

This base has been abuzz most of the week in anticipation of his visit--the first presidential visit since 1942.

Oh yes! Please accept my sincere thanks for sacrificing for the rest of us.

You, too, Dopeygirl. Thank you.
