Isn't it exciting!! Last November, I went to a rally before election day for our current Govenor (yes, the one that caused the scare at Reagan's funeral by flying in restricted air space
) and President Bush came and spoke.
Anyway, it was a spur of the moment thing and got some "standing room" only tickets (it was at a small airport and they had set up bleachers in a field). I thought we would have to see him through binoculars. We got there an hour early and were roped off in a field away from the podium, but directly in front of it. All of a sudden, they dropped the rope. Everyone took off running, including me and DH. We ended up RIGHT NEXT to the podium!!! I was so excited.
We were literally 8 feet away from him throughout his speech. Security was EVERYWHERE and there were snipers on the rooftop of the airport. Then when he finished, he shook hands with everyone around the podium and me and DH both got to shake hands with him!!! I had never been so excited in my life. After it was over, we stood on the back bleachers and watched Air Force One fly off. I took tons of awesome pictures - a couple of him looking directly at my camera. I tried to take one of President Bush shaking hands with my DH beside me, but everyone started pushing forward and reaching out / over me and I didn't have enough room to turn and get the picture - think it turned out as a sideways pic of his sleeve!! I called everyone I knew in the car on the way back home. I have a whole album devoted to the experience.
The funniest part though was before we went. I put on a pair of jeans and a nicer sweater and so did DH. He looked at me and said "You don't think we're underdressed do you?" We were going to be standing in a field at a small airport. I looked at him and said "Are you crazy?? Its not like President Bush is actually going to see us, let alone what we are wearing!!!" My famous last words....
