Some folks are just not happy unless they can 'pee' in someone else's cornflakes. :confused3

CR Fan:

I've been following your posts for the last several months, and I truly hope that you and your family have an outstanding time at WDW and the Polynesian! Woo hoo, you check in on Saturday!!!

I can totally understand your excitement upon seeing the upgrade in an email, and also on the Disney website. I truly hope your upgrade happens. I would've thought the same as you; if Disney sent me an email and it shows up on the web site, then that must be the type of room they're changing us too. I had NO IDEA that they've sent out emails that indicated an upgrade, only to not have that same upgrade upon check-in, in the past. Learn something new everyday, I guess. :confused3

What I CAN'T understand are the people who seem almost gleeful to point out that he'll probably NOT get the upgrade. As for letting someone know that others have thought they were getting upgrades only to find out they didn't, there's nothing wrong with that. Some people did that very tactfully, others didn't.

Also, what about the people who had to point out that it's his PARENTS who paid for the room??? What does THAT have to do with anything? :confused3  It sounds to me like they're trying to emasculate the OP by pointing that fact out. I have no idea how old CR Fan is, but no matter what his age is, it's never inappropriate to show decency and respect to others, even if/when you're trying to correct them.

CR Fan: Go and have an awesome time, and forget about the DIS for a few days! Well, remember enough so that you come back and give us a great report. :sunny:

Go have fun CR...it will be a new and great expereince. Watch the fireworks from the club, pool, beach, etc. Take the water launch, monorail, etc and enjoy the food and beverage offerings in the club.:goodvibes

OP - you remind me of another poster from these boards...I can't put my finger on it...but I think it's something about your posting style.

It has saddened me to see how this thread has attacked the OP. I agree with the posters that say let him have the magical wondering of if the upgrade will happen. I hope it does.

It doesn't matter who pays for the vacation but FWIW, OP has posted in the past that he contributes to the cost of the trip.

Best wishes and keeping the magic the upgrade happens!

I agree with every word of this post!!!!

I am confused. Did YOU get the upgrade, or was it from mommy & daddy?

CR Resort Fan 4 Life- I feel bad this thread got turned around on you - you've helped me w/my questions about CR as I'm sure you've helped a lot of others as well. Have a wonderful trip and enjoy the Poly & Disney and tell us all about it when you get home. Sending you lots of pixiedust:

Happy HOlidays!

TotalSnowWhite, SeaSpray, tink_lover and JJ&JSMOM thank you for those kinds words.

Also to SeaSpray thank you for poitning out what I have said before in this thread, that if anyone else found out they were upgraded before their check-in date that they would not question it. Also for the record the e-mail we got was a link to our new confirmation which said the following.

Dear (Insert our last name there)

Thanks for making a Disney reservation! For your records, the confirmation number for this reservation is (Instert the confirmation # there.)

Here are the details of the reservation. (The link would be right here) If you have trouble pulling up the reservation with the provided link, and would like us to mail you a hard copy of the confirmation, please call our reservations office.

Keep in mind that Disney Resort Guests enjoy more convenient, relaxing benefits than ever, including an enhanced benefit called Extra Magic Hours. Each day one of the Theme Parks opens an hour early or, as a new feature, stays open up to three hours after regular closing, so Disney Resort Guests can enjoy select attractions (valid Walt Disney World Resort ID and Theme Park admission required).

So as you can see it was not an e-mail when you get one from the Club Level IPO offices welcoming you to that specific Resorts Club Level.

And here I was thinking I’d been especially nice…only to learn that others apparently think I was urinating on someone’s corn flakes. :lmao: Which, might I add, is a thoroughly disgusting analogy.

No, I don't, honestly.

I totally agree with you that Disney shouldnt offer compensation. We were upgraded this past Sunday from garden view to Atrium Club. I had no knowledge prior as we just got off the cruise. Gosh, it sure was a NICE surprise! I did get a new email at 9:30 that am with the upgrade and checked in at noon so I never saw the email. But even if that Atrium room was not available, so be it. I just wanted what I paid for! Disney would owe me nothing!

Then my mission has been accomplished. ;)

I have to agree. I didn't see anyone wishing badly on the OP, simply trying to point out that free upgrades can and do go away, and to not pin his entire vacation dreams on it like he seemed to be doing. I think that this thread took a downward turn when the OP insisted that his party should be entitled to compensation if a free upgrade for some reason didn't happen. That's didn't sit well with a lot of people, and rightfully so.

No one was "pissing on the OP's Cornflakes," simply being realisitic. I'd rather be realisitic about tempering expectations rather than have someone expect something that they don't get and have a sour taste in thier mouth through their vacation because of it.

I would have to agree with this as well. If I received an email telling me that I had been upgraded I would be excited but I wouldn't count my chickens until they were hatched. The time I would believe it is when we checked in and they stated we have been upgraded. Then that would be the time to do the happy dance. Anyway, OP have a wonderful vacation and can't wait to hear about it.

But Anne we see that over and over here... as you well know. I tend to only post on the Transportation board these days as there is no emotion involved in Transportation - only facts.

Yet straightforward, factual posts are seen as negative by some, simply because they do not contain 'pixie dust'. Personally, I would rather have facts and realistic expectations, so that I know I can expect.

I agree that it is best to temper expectations that have been created here over the years - whether it be towel animals, free birthday treats, upgrades, or any item which should be considered an unexpected delight. The 'unexpected delight' seems to have turned to 'expected delight' over the years, thanks to the internet.

I don't think that anyone has wished the OP anything other than a good vacation; but many have pointed out that upgrades can and do change. Unfortunately the Disney reservation system sends out new confirmations when room types are changed in the hotel system; this is a fatal flaw which should be corrected to avoid disappointment.

Exactly! I'd much rather be surprised upon arrival, than check-in expecting something that doesn't pan out and be disappointed.
