We got towel animals this week

Wow, I remember the outrage when it was determined they were no longer doing the towel animals. It'll be interesting to see if your experience was a one-off or if they're going to begin doing them again. Maybe some of that resort parking fee money is going to housekeeping for towel animal training.;)

Just to shed some light on the towel animals. It's a pretty big misconception that they stopped this due to $$. And they didn't stop it, just stopped encouraging it. I posted this about 8 months ago but stillstands as true.

My aunt was a housekeeper at WDW for 14 years and recently retired. The towel animals were always meant for guests to take home if they wanted. Therefore, the towels the housekeepers use to make the animals are towels that are going to be taken out of "service" due to fraying, looking ragged etc. That's why they were not always left for guests because there had to be some that were going to be "retired". Not only did there need to be towels available to be made into animals, the housekeeper had to have the time to make them up. They were always meant to be something special, not expected. And as the guests started complaining that they are paying $$$ for the room or tipping $$$ and not getting towels animals every day, they have decided to stop encouraging the practice.Though there still are some housekeepers that enjoy doing it so much that they will still do it. But as a whole, they are not encouraged to any longer. So if you do get some, enjoy. But don't expect them.

That is so cool! Its been years since we had towel animals at WDW. Our kids loved them!
When we went on a Disney Cruise and got towel animals, our kids asked why we didn't at WDW.
Hope its aa new trend and not a one time thing.

So cute! We got one a few years ago in WL and 2 trips ago at BWV. (I also love the stuffed Marie doll :cutie:)

WL did Swan towels on our bed kissing for Valentines Day. That was it for towel animals.....lol

I too have not seen them in years, and must say I never realized they were meant for the guests to take home with them. Not that many survived being moved around a bit during the stay!

In 2010, we stayed at Pop with our BFFs. These are wonderful people; the wife and I have been friends since we were children. But they (mainly the husband) are kinda boastful about money and what big tippers they are.

So you know where this is going. Every day, we got an elaborate towel sculpture in our room—a dog, a Scooby Doo Mystery Machine, a flower, etc.—while our friends got nothing. Our rooms were next door to each other too.

When my BFF complained that we got animals and they got nothing, I said, “maybe you just aren’t tipping them as well as us.” :rotfl2:

While I don't want people to think cash is involved on our last trip I left 5 dollars a day for Mousekeeping and Gwen's mother left a not in Spanish thanking them for their hard work (she's a translator), the room my daughter and I occupied got 1 a day. And the girl has saved them all on a bookshelf in my office.

We got one at WL in Feb. 2017. It was a bird, and the mousekeeping went so far as to put eyes on it. And it was mom and I, we were both adults, but it still was great. I made sure to give the bird pride of place sitting on top of the TV cabinet. Our mousekeeper that week was awesome all around.

My then 7 year old daughter received an adorable mouse towel animal at AKL in 2016. The mousekeeper even left her a sweet note! It was such an unexpected delight! :lovestruc
