We found the nicest 2-bedroom at VWL

We made our reservations for an October stay at VWL in a 2-bedroom villa exactly 11 months ahead of time with two requests, 1) non-smoking and 2) first floor. Both requests were important, because we can?t take the smell of tobacco, and my wife does not feel safe on higher floors. Our requests were noted on our reservation form, and it indicated that we would get a dedicated 2-bedroom. We arrived at the main desk at 8 am on a Sunday and learned that we were not on the first floor. We had a discussion with the CM and after he made several trips to the room behind the desk, he told us there were no 2-bedrooms on the first floor and that the second floor was all smoking optional. We were given Room 3519.

As it turned out it was a fabulous room. If you look at the picture of the Villas at Wilderness Lodge in the Member guidebook, you will notice the corner of the building with a stone face. The third balcony from the top was ours and that room was our living room. The room to the right was the master bedroom and the room to the left was the second bedroom. Because of all the corners we had 8 windows with a fantastic view of the pool area. The windows made for an exceptionally bright room for the VWL. Rather than face a narrow corridor, our door opened on to the open area above the grand lobby on the first floor, and it was a short walk to the elevators. I assume the rooms above and below this one are similar.

The great room was a compensation for not getting the first floor, however, I still have doubts about the statement that there are no 2-bedroom units on the first floor. Perhaps one of you DVC experts would know the answer.

Thanks for the info. I am making my first trip to the VWL in about...see below. Can't wait to go back home. I also will be staying in a 2br unit.

Glad you enjoyed your trip.

RogerB....

Sounds like a great room. I'm reluctant to ask for a specific room number, even at 11 months, because if the room assigners don't have it open, they don't have much else to base a room assignment on.

We had a 1BR the first time to VWL this year. Next year we will have a 2BR. I'm sure whatever they give us will be great.

Thanks for the nice report....though you did make me a little homesick! ;)

The 2nd floor room was layed out exactly how you described the 3rd floor room. It was fabulous! We had that room last Jan when we were there. We had been in a studio room then moved to a 2br. We had been walking around the Villas and commented about the corner room by the lobby. We thought the view would be great. Well, tinkerbell must have heard us and told the room controller because it was the exact room that we got! I would love that same room again, but would not want to dare ask for a specific room..........

Hi SimbaNoodle we are going to Disney and staying at VWL for Mardi Gra. MMM maybe I am going to disney to meet someone from Mobile. I have a studio reserved maybe I'll ask for the first floor.

Hi beaker. great to see someone else from Mobile. I have been taking my wife and kids down to WDW each Mardi Gras for the last three years. Keep in touch and maybe we could get together down there.:jester:

There may not be dedicated 2-bedrooms on the first floor, but I KNOW that there are studios and connecting one bedrooms on the first floor. Maybe the CM meant that "there are no 2-bedrooms on the first floor" that are available / empty.

I was wondering about those rock rooms on the corner, thanks for the info-
