Just got off the phone with TWC.
We are officially cable-free! (well, as soon as a tech comes and blocks our line)

We finally got fed up with the high cost of channeling filth and garbage into our home, and made the decision to put an end to it.

DD15 will have a heart attack when she realizes what has happened, but I am feeling really good about the decision.

All we ever do is watch reruns of reruns, because there are so few shows we feel are worth watching.
There is one show we like on ABC, but we can see it on our I-devices the day after it airs.

So, goodbye cable!!! I really don't think I will miss you! :wave2:

We haven't had cable for the last year and a half or so. Can't say I miss it. We do use hulu and for a bit we also had Netflix. We do have an antenna so we do get the basic basic channels (abc, nbc, cbs, PBS etc)

The big difference is that I don't get sucked into a show that I have no interest in, just b/c it's on. I have to actually want to watch a show to spend my time looking for it.

We've been cable free for about 10 years. I do not miss it one bit. We use Netflix and Amazon streaming. In general, we just watch a lot less tv and spend our time doing other things :goodvibes

I keep trying to get my husband to let me cancel everything from Time Warner (well, maybe keep the internet, but that's it).
But he seems to be holding firm.

With the merger of Time Warner and Comcast (why are they allowing that?? talk about a monopoly. Political connections is my guess.)
I detest allowing this beast into our home. I hate supporting channels that I wouldn't give a dime to. Al Jazeera for one.

They just went up in price again.
Maybe I should have him make the calls to beg them to not raise our fees. That would probably do it!:lmao:

We haven't had cable for over 3 years. Occasionally I miss it. I wish we had a few channels......HGTV, A&E, TLC are a few. DH misses the golf channel, the military channel, and the Smithsonian channel.

But overall, we don't miss it for $1200 per year! The $3,600 we saved in 3 years has been put into an account and I enjoy watching it grow.

All of you are echoing my own sentiments.
I have tried for quite a few years to be able to make this change in our home.
It took a sermon in church, where the pastor made the exact comment about a lot of shows, that I had just made days prior.

That was an eye opener for my other half!!!
Finally realized it was time to make a change for the better.

So here we are now, getting ready to begin saving $50 a month. :woohoo:
I couldn't be happier or more excited.
I'm thinking, more time paying attention to each other, spending time with each other while doing something more productive, and definitely no more having to see unwanted views of inappropriate things as we flip through the channels.
Even commercials and previews have gotten out of control.

Thanks for the encouragement and support!!! :grouphug:

I wish I could pull the plug but my dtr and I bought a home with my aging parents and my dad loves cable. We have Hulu and netflix and that would be enough for me and my dtr. In fact, we had an extra flat screen so I let her put it in her room and she's never used it. She watches everything online. I'm disgusted that the Comcast/Time Warner merger is going through.

Could have written this myself! We cut cable 6 days ago and couldn't be happier. We have hulu plus, and we are saving $100 a month! More for the disney fund...

So do any of you watch sports? We are big sports watchers here and that is one of the things holding us back. I

We went w/o it for about 5months and it was fine. We paid $40 for a digital antenna and could watch whatever that picked up plus we have Amazon prime and roku boxes. Here the cable/phone/Internet is not a choice as it is part of our Hoa fees so we have it.

What is a DTR?

Cut the cord 6 months ago. Roku allows us to watch the shows we want for free.(we'll, except the cost of internet).

My husband is reluctant to cut the cord because of NASCAR and some football and basketball.

This. We were paying over $200 a month for Internet and TV and our pay per view movies. Now it's $60 a month for Internet and we watch on the laptops or Roku.
