We finally pulled the plug!

I got my bill today for my bundled non-hd tv, phone and internet. The bill was $26 higher.

I called Comcast. I was told I'd either have to pay the new rate or cancel. I asked if that's the only option. I was told yes. Then I was told to please hold for moment to see if there is any special offer for me.

That's when I was transferred to "Phil". Phil, the guy who had to yell everything he said and not let me get a single word in. Phil, the guy who refused to let me speak to a supervisor. Phil, the guy who claimed customers were too cheap to pay for quality Comcast service.

I ended up hanging up on Phil when he wouldn't stop yelling. I'm not quite sure what I did to Phil to have him treat me that way. :confused3

Good old Phil called me back to ask why I hung up. I wasn't even going to waste any more time and told Phil I'd have my husband call Comcast when he got home from work. Phil tried to once again yell, but I just hung up. I don't think Phil should work with the public. Yikes.

That wasn't even enough for Comcast. They called back again, but this time it was Roger. Roger offered to let me have the same service at what I paid last month, but I'd have to pay a 1 time fee for the privilege of doing so. I said I wasn't paying the fee. I asked if they'd waive the fee. Roger laughed at me. I said (and I was very nice to everyone) that I'd told Phil that I'd speak to my husband when he got home and have my husband deal with Comcast. Roger asked if I was turning him down on his offer. I said I didn't agree to anything. I'd have my husband call them back after I spoke with him after work. Again Roger asked me if I was declining his offer. I said to have a nice day, and ended the call.

Comcast called me back, but I didn't answer it. There was no voice mail left.

What the heck??

That is really bizarre.

TWC is becoming Comcast and the more I hear about them the more I am cringing.

If we were to move just 6 or 7 miles in, closer to the city, we would get far more options for internet, but I doubt Dh will agree to move.

I would hate to see our bill creep up to around $100 just for internet.

With FIOS, we have no phone, but I get 50/25 Mbps Internet and 150 channels for $105 per month. I have an HTPC, so no need to rent a set-top box or DVR. Just a cablecard for $5/month.

FIOS is not an option here.

Just got off the phone with TWC. We are officially cable-free! (well, as soon as a tech comes and blocks our line) We finally got fed up with the high cost of channeling filth and garbage into our home, and made the decision to put an end to it. DD15 will have a heart attack when she realizes what has happened, but I am feeling really good about the decision. All we ever do is watch reruns of reruns, because there are so few shows we feel are worth watching. There is one show we like on ABC, but we can see it on our I-devices the day after it airs. So, goodbye cable!!! I really don't think I will miss you! :wave2:

After 2 weeks, you won't miss it. We use netflix, at I think 8$ a month (and ooma for home phone for I think 7$ a month). 0 regrets! Save about 100$ per month. Did it maybe 2 yrs ago now. We also YouTube things too like Mickey Mouse show, or sponge bob.

My own big complaint about cable TV is that the technology in the cable box is seriously lacking. For example...

- How come when I scroll through the guide, there's big delays and pauses, but when I scroll through the guide on my Windows Media Center device, it flows like water?

- Same thing for On-Demand. I click on demand, and there's a 3-5 second pauses before I get the menu of stuff. Then additional pauses as I go through the menus.

- and finally....WHY ON EARTH do I need to have to have two versions of each channel? NBC is on channel 3, but if I want to watch it in HD, I have to go to 807. SURELY there's a way in 2014 to simply detect that I'm using an HD tv, and just show the HD version? I'd even settle for a master switch in the options: "I have an HD TV, show HD content when available"

You'll get the feature eventually. I had Comcast out 3 weeks ago to replace our boxes and fix the lines as the squirrels chewed through them (again) and our cable was upgraded to x2. Now when I select a channel it automatically goes to the HD channel if available. The new guide is horrible though.

Oh my goodness. Is this what we have to look forward to when they take over Time Warner?

I'm showing my husband your post. If that doesn't do it, I don't know what will!

We're getting ready to do it! DH and I can't stand the $190+ bill for U-verse which includes 2 phone lines, internet and TV. We're going to get rid of 1 of the land lines. I have to have one because I work from home and need it for work.

U-verse wants $108/month for phone and internet. I was amazed that it is that high. Comcast was $93? but that was only for 6 months and then goes up.

We were shocked when the 2 teenage boys were OK with this decision as they love watching sports and other stuff. But, they are OK with the saving money part of this!

Now, to decide between Roku and Amazon Fire. Decisions, decisions. Any advice on either?

We are looking to pull the plug when our contract runs out. We already use Netflix, Hulu, and Amazon Prime. My main issue will be sports, as both the DW and I love sports. I know you can get MLB, NBA, and NHL packages, just wish the NFL would get on board already, and embrace streaming as viable. We live in the DC area, and are fans of the Steelers and Bears, so we already frequent sports bars, but I'll miss being able to watch a MNF at home, but overall....still worth pulling the plug!
