We did it! - Now confused.....

We put our deposit down this week on 150 points at Villas at Wilderness Lodge with an April use year. Yea! We had been looking at BCV, but apparently, they opened up some inventory at VWL and that was where we really wanted to be. Therefore we have the 150 points for 2002 at our disposal.

I'm still a little confused about banking/borrowing points and hoping the expertise on this board can help.

1) If we've purchased 150 points, what is the maximum amount of points you could ever have at your disposal? Is it 300 assuming you bank 100% of your current year points and borrow 100% of your points from the subsequent year?

2) I guess this is really a question for DVC, but......
Since we have 150 points for the 2002 use year, I'm assuming we either have to use them before 3/31/03 or bank them. Unfortunately, I think the deadline is already passed to bank 100% of the points (9/30/02). Is this correct?

The most points you would have available is 450. 150 banked, 150 from the current year and 150 borrowed.

No. You can bank all of your points at closing when buying from DVC. Just tell your guide and she will tell you what to do.

The maximum number of points you could have at your disposal is three times your annual allotment. If you've purchased 150, then the max is 450. For example, you bank you entire 2002 allotment, borrow you 2004 allotment and then, combined with your 2003 allotment, you have 450 points to use in your 2003 use year. Of course you would have no points to use in either the 2002 use year or the 2004 use year if you did that.

The 100% banking window for an April use year is September 30. However, since you just put down your depost, you should be able to bank all your 2002 points at closing. Call your guide and tell him/her you want to do that. If there isn't a form to bank the points in your "package", your guide should be able to send you one. If you do not think you can use your points before 3/31/03, I'd definitely call to get that done!

I put a call into to my rep because we are still considering but want Wilderness, she hasn't called yet!!! Did you buy them through Disney, if so, how often do they come up and at what price, do you pay the going 80.00 per point, or is it lower??? thanks looking ofr 150-200 at VWL!!!

I would second want2buy's question. Did you buy these through Disney or through a resale? I was under the impression that VWL was totally sold out through Disney.

The other point being is that if you bought these via resale, do you really get the same advantage of being able to bank 100% of your points even though you are past the deadline to do so?

another question - if you buy resale, and all the 2002 points are available, I was looking at an august use year, so I offer and close buy lets say 12/15. Do I loose the 2002 points or can I bank them????

As far as the max point total that you could have, YES, 3 times your points is right, BUT....if you could stay during the last week of your use year into the new use year it is possible to use 4 years of points....How we tripped over this
Dec use year
Bank 2000 into 2001 (they expire Dec 1 2002)
Bank 2001 into 2002
Use 2002 allotment
Borrow partial 2003 into 2002

Staying Nov 28 thru Dec 13 2002

May seem confusing, was a bit for us, but it works out..

I had read here that Disney opened up some more VWL inventory to new purchasers. I am not sure how much they have or what use years, but it would sell at the current rate. Give your guides a call if you are interested! If they don't return your calls within a day (24 hours), I would call back. I can't imagine that they got that many points back, so they will likely go quickly! Best of luck to you!

I also read somewhere that Disney may start buying back points and doing their own resales. Perhaps that is where these points came from?

My friend had been vacillating about when to buy DVC. Not whether to buy, just when to buy. We had lunch together yesterday and I answered question after question about the actual experience. So she called DVC today and was able to purchase 100 points at VWL with a June use year. She had been all set to buy BCV but when she spoke with Byron she mentioned that she had previously stayed at WL and he offered her points at VWL! So she bought 100 there and 150 at BCV. So I had to let folks here know, as she said to me, "its a fact Jack", VWL is available!

Disney likely got back points for VWL either through defaults on loans or exercise of right of first refusal or more likely some combination of both. To bank all of your points from one use year to the next, you need to do so by the end of the 6th month of the use year, e.g., if Aug use year then by Jan 31. If you buy resale that rule holds -- if at time of closing you are beyond the 6th month of the use year you cannot bank 100% of the points (note in that situation you might want the seller to bank before closing if the seller can meet the 6th month date). When you are buying from Disney, it allows you to bank all points at closing even if that would violate the six month rule -- you get a form with the documents you receive to sign which asks if you want to accept that banking option and you fill out form and return it with rest of documents. If you cannot recall, after you have sent in the documents, whether you filled out the form just call the sales rep and the sales rep will make sure that the file shows to bank the points at closing.

When i spoke with my Vacation Guide last week (we are adding on 100 points at VWL) she told me that additional inventory had become available for VWL master contracts, but that they would probably be gone in about 2 weeks. She didn't say which use year/years were available, but she did mention that some use years were nearly gone for add-ons. I didn't ask which years because mine (March) was still open, but with only about 8,000 points. So anyone who wants VWL as their home resort should call soon.

Yes, we are buying direct from Disney, not resale. The WL inventory came open in early October and I expect it will go fast. We bought with an April use year and are getting the 2002 points.
