We chose the dark side - Carnival VS Disney

Good to know. I didn't realize they had two showers. I agree two toilets would be better. I booked a deluxe ocean view on the 11 night southern Caribbean Nov 16 repositioning cruise out of NYC. The price is incredible for that cruise. 2,752 with gratuities 3352. About 75pp per day. I am checking the website several times a day, hoping a Family harbor Ocean view opens up. I really wanted to do the Med itinerary, but I think NYC is a nice trade off... something new for the kids, and I haven't been there since I was a kid.
That sounds great.

Those are the non verandah room numbers... Directly off Google, not from either website

I agree. I can only base my opinion based on the picture on the Carnival website, nothing compared to Disney. But, I haven't been on it, I trust your opinion....

Ocean view bigger???? Guess you don't enjoy split bathrooms also.

Carnival Glory Cruise Accommodations, Staterooms and Suites
Size Sleeps
185 sq ft Sleeps 2 guests
185 sq ft Sleeps 2 guests
185 sq ft Sleeps 2 guests
185 sq ft Sleeps 2 guests, some sleep 3

Disney Wonder Deck Plans. Disney's cabins are larger than the industry average. Standard Inside Staterooms are 184 square feet; Deluxe Inside and Outside Staterooms 214 square feet;

Sorry but not everything on the internet is correct.

From Cruise Critic regarding room size on the Carnival Glory:

Interior: Inside cabins are 185 square feet; most have twin beds that convert to kings, though Category 1A has one twin and one upper bunk. Insides have smaller desks than other cabins and no couches.

Oceanview: Most oceanview cabins measure 220 square feet apiece and feature a window, porthole or obstructed-view window, depending on category. Scenic Oceanviews are 230 square feet, and Scenic Grand Oceanviews are 320 square feet. These cabins are done in Carnival's newer color scheme of light wood with blue and yellow accents and feature slanted floor-to-ceiling windows at the front of the ship for panoramic views.

And as an FYI - on the Carnival Dream class (dream, magic and breeze), some of the cabins classed as "inside" - i.e. the Porthole cabins - are also 220 square feet.

Well, a little change of plans today. I've been checking the Carnival website like 20 times a day for the last 3 weeks hoping a ocean view room that sleeps four on the Oct 11 cruise would open up. A room popped up today. Not just any Ocean view but a Family Harbor room.:woohoo: I put a 48 hour hold on it. I called Carnival and had my deposit from my Nov. 16 transferred over and paid in full. No penalty's I don't book the non- refundable deposit fares. The cost was 2395 and 2913 total with gratuities. This is the cruise and date I really wanted so I'm super excited. I'm passed the PIF date so no changing now. I'm fully committed.

A week ago I wasn't sure I could do another Europe trip. The jet lag has worn off, and I'm fully functioning again. I started looking at European cruises for next Summer, but everything was at least double most of the time triple this price.... with the exception of dcl which is 7 times as much. I decided this was to good a deal to pass up.

Since we're discussing room size. The room is 230 sq feet, double bathrooms, with access to the Harbor view lounge and concierge service. Love it.

Hope you come back and let us know how it went! Sounds great.

If we enjoy this cruise on the Victory (which did not get the Fun 2.0 upgrade) we will definitely look into other cruises with Carnival. We enjoy the lower prices.

77 days to go...

We decided to practice for our future non-Disney cruise by having a little brunch-cruise around Montreal with AML (which is our local cruise line). The staff was absolutely fantastic (here I am very tempted to go with my "wait a minute, I thought good staff was only happening on Disney ships?" joke :scratchin)

We were in a different class of cruiseship (if you compare with the Disney Dream)... Meanwhile, I felt like I could have easily spent a whole week-end on this one. Although the buffet did not have as much choices than Cabanas (they also offer signature dining for dinner but we did not try it yet therefore I cannot compare), I was satisfied and had a great time.

(See pictures)

This short cruise confirmed that I absolutely love cruising, don't need the mouse to have a good time (Don't get me wrong, Disney is special and amazing but not the only way to cruise)...

I am super excited and optimistic for our cruise with Carnival.

I posted the same thought a couple days ago in a different post. After we did the Vista last month I had the same thought. I just flat out love to cruise! I have DCL to thank for getting me on our first cruise, but I just don't get the mentality of I can only cruise 1 cruise line. After spending lots of time on cruise critic so many people are so worried about getting platinum status that they're missing so much and so many different things.

We have 3 cruises booked for 2017 for a total of 20 night, 1 Carnival Vista, 1 Disney Dream and 1 on RCCL Liberty of the Seas. The total price for all 3 of those is less than what we would have paid for the 11 night Southern Caribbean on the Fantasy next June.

I'm so excited to get back on the Vista and I've been wanting to try RCCL for a couple years. They all offer different experiences, not necessarily better or worse, just different. I was able to celebrate my parents 60 year anniversary on the Vista with them because of the deal we got on that ship. There is no way I could have done that if we were stuck in the "I only sail DCL" mindset. That was very special for me and my family and a memory I get to cherish. The only thing I have to complain about Carnival is that there were no wet t-shirt contests and women running around top less that so many people say happens on Carnival. It was just a bunch of families having a great time playing games, doing trivia, going to shows, swimming, eating, laughing and doing it all without their nose buried in their phones. Sounds like the ideal family vacation to me no matter what name is on the ship!

Happy cruising to all no matter what cruise line you're on.

Awesome! We have the FH OV room for our December cruise on the Vista...report back and let me know how you liked it! I have the room that is double in size, so we get 2 portholes instead of one..it's the oddly shaped stateroom and it has a different furniture configuration. Ours is a Caribbean itinerary.

Excellent post.

I feel the same way. I cruised with DCL for the first time because I trusted them. I had the idea of a cruise before that but wasn't really enthousiactic about it and cancelled because I was scared I wouldn't like it. Cruising with DCL was my insurance that I would at least appreciate it a little (the Disney part).

The only thing I have to complain about Carnival is that there were no wet t-shirt contests and women running around top less that so many people say happens on Carnival.

LOL My husband will be disappointed.

Excellent post.
I have to give credit to you for helping feel better about trying Carnival! I read so many of your posts both here and on cruise critic comparing the the two that it made me fell a lot better about our decision. So a huge thank you and if we ever happen to be on the same cruise, I'll buy you a drink!

Woohoo! :yay:

Ready for another challenge? I dare you to try MSC! Yes, that's right..but PLEASE..don't read the reviews...they scared the hell out of me..but I went anyway, and guess what??? LOVED IT!. It is very different than an American line, but not better or worse, just different. It had the itinerary I wanted and KIDS SAIL FREE! If you like Italian food, you will love it...just don't even bother with the reviews or ratings...I had an amazing time and am looking forward to sailing their fleet.

You can check out my sig on CC...I have a link to the trip report.

I didn't know they had an OV like that. I'm not sure if ours in a good location. We may be under the galley. It might not be a bad thing maybe it will get my boys up in the morning. I'm usually opening the blinds and beating them with pillows to get them up and moving on port days. My dh is the worst of them. His idea of good cruise is all sea days.

I actually get that way too sometimes. I think my first Vista cruise will be a "cruise for the ship" type cruise...I just want to explore it and relax...I have already been to the ports many time...so probably won't do any excursions.
