We Came, We Saw, We ATE! - A TiW Dining Report - Update 6/29, Ghirardelli

Wow, I am so far behind!

Rose & Crown looks great! I've gotta try it one of these days!

I love ESPN Club! It's cheap and the food is great! That mahi mahi sandwich looks delish! :worship:

What a gorgeous view at Tokyo Dining! Love the choices, except for I agree about lame dessert selection. Then again, the Japanese aren't exactly known for their desserts. They should put Kaki-Gori on the menu!

You guys are such a cute couple! :cutie:

What a gorgeous view of Illuminations! I'll have to remember that for an upcoming trip, since I really want to eat there.

Sassagoula Floatworks DOES have a weird atmosphere, but I love it. It was the very first place I ever ate on Disney property, so it's just special to me. :goodvibes Looks like you had a great meal there, though!

That is actually a GREAT value. Here were I work in NY, I can get the same exact salad that you got (tossed salad with toppings of your choice) for about $7. So for $2 more that is a great deal plus your salad actually looks better then what I can make because of the "economy" this place I go to for lunch has actually taken away some toppings!! Yet they manage to still charge the same amount!

Really?! That does make it seem like a better deal! Maybe its compared to some of the other CS foods I've had on property...or the $6 totally filling Earl of Sandwich! Btw, I'm now jealous of your work lunches. :rotfl2: But how dare they remove toppings - don't they know thats half the fun??

Oh no apologize about being behind on my thread - I'm the queen of serious 24/7 disboarding for like 2 weeks, and then absentee for about 3 weeks...:rolleyes1!

Thank you for the compliments, and for reading! They should put Kaki-gori on the menu, mahi-mahi for that price was amazing, and you should try rose & crown (especially if you can land one of those coveted 8pm ressies to watch Illuminations from their terrace. :cloud9:

Great reviews! Just jumped in. Rose and Crown looks great. We have ADR's there for the first time this coming trip in Aug. Everyone always raves about the fish and chips. Are they very heavy? I don't fare well with heavy fried foods. But it looks so delicious I wanted to give it a try.

That's a lot of Tempura Chicken! Thanks for your review of the spicy tuna roll, I've been considering getting that next time we go to Teppan Edo but I was afraid it'll be too spicy for me.

I'll have to show your pic of the Tempura Chicken to my DH so he won't be so hesitant about our reservation!

Just joined in and I'm really enjoying your reviews. :wizard:

I chuckled when I read your comment about Sassagoula because we toured the POFQ during our last trip and my DH quickly announced that he would never stay at that resort because he wouldn't be able to eat at the retauraunt. The giant heads really freaked him out!

Welcome!

I know what you mean about fried food - I rarely eat it at home so when I do on vacation, I have to be a bit careful. They are actually not too bad. I wouldn't say they are light, since after you eat them you can see some of the oil that the paper below it had absorbed; but I wouldn't say they were heavy either. The coating itself isn't thick - more like a tempura than a fried batter, from what I remember, and if it gets to be too much, I'm sure you could remove some of it to your liking. Either way, its worth a try and a definite must go spot to cool off and eat lunch!

Your welcome for the review. The tempura is worth a showing to the DH ;) - My DH ate one piece of my and was in love. He hadn't had tempura before so he was leary of the taste, but said he actually really liked it (coming from a guy who isn't a fan of fried food)! Also, try the spicy tuna roll, like most things Disney, its actually pretty moderate compared to the "real-real" thing at an actual sushi bar.

LOL to your DH's comment. I can't imagine how people who are afraid of clowns must feel at that place. And I can only imagine how creepy it would be at night if you were alone walking in the dark during the off-season when no one else was around...But I guess some people loooove that place! Oh well, thats why Disney has so many different themes I guess!

Rarely do we have two CS places in one day, but today was an exception since we didn't have any evening plans, and we're kinda going to take it easy tonight. We headed to DTD for Earl of delicousness-err...I mean Earl of Sandwich. :cloud9:

The backstory: We discovered this place only on our last trip and at here twice. DH is a sandwich king - he would eat them every day if he could. He loves subway (not quiznos, not blimpies, or gourmet type sandwich shops) and loves making them himself. He also likes the occasional club sandwich out at a restaurant. So naturally, I always put Earl of Sandwich (and Starring Rolls Cafe) into our plans for pure DH happiness in his stomach. :thumbsup2

Also, I love it too - I love their bread....:cloud9::cloud9::cloud9: and the fact that each sandwich is a Disney-price-shocker of $5.99! :scared1:

While we didn't get any sides or desserts, I snapped a shot of these tempting treats.

DH chose his go-to sandwich, Hawaiian BBQ - roasted ham, grilled chicken, Hawaiian BBQ sauce, Aged Swiss cheese and fresh pineapple. (Sub cheddar instead of swiss)

Sadly, DH wasn't overly impressed with his choice or overall experience here. It was mediocre to him - but maybe he was just tired? He has raved about this in the past, so I was a bit sad for him and his disappointing sandwich (insert slightly sarcastic frowny face here) lol.

EoS has a super delicious menu to attract all kinds of different people. Meaty, healthy---er (haha), veggie, simple, classic, weird...so naturally I took forever to decide, but I finally decided on the Caribbean Jerk Chicken - grilled chicken, roasted red and banana peppers with a spicy jerk sauce.

YUM! I still think about this sandwich since the sauce and the bread really made it come together. I love chicken sandwiches the best, and when you add spice and peppers, its awesome. All their sandwiches are served warm, and the bread perfectly toasted. Their bread is freshly made each day, called, "Artesian Baked Loaf," and if I could make bread like that, I'd weigh a WHOLE lot more...:rotfl:

As for atmosphere and service here, they are both okay. I think that EoS needs to figure out a slightly better way to handle the actual purchase down at the registers - it can become confusing, congested, and overwhelming for first-time guests. Atmosphere totally depends on the time of day - midday for lunch, or dinner time rush, the place feels crowded, and loud, just like a deli. However, its clean, its nicely decorated, the actual space is pretty nice, etc. Outside is a great place to sit on a late spring night as you people watch and listen to the music and surroundings.

I will go again, because its one of the best values on Disney property. DH will probably need to be convinced. I do, however, really want to try eating breakfast there - they serve sandwiches with the same bread, but with breakfast items...mmmm!

TiW Breakdown: (Lost the receipt):confused::confused:
Hawaiian BBQ - $5.99
Caribbean Jerk Chicken - $5.99
Subtotal: approx $13 with tax

Running Total Savings - $40.97

Wow that Hawaiian BBQ sandwich looks so good! Especially right now since I am so hungry. I think you just gave me a reason on our upcoming trip to stop by one day to DTD to eat as its not really in our plans this trip :cool1:

Yes! I totally recommend it - especially if you love sandwiches and are tired of paying $10-14 for lunch at a mediocre CS place in the parks. Enjoy! :goodvibes

So after we walked around DTD, and DH wasn't a huge fan of his dinner, we were in need of a treat. We had already been to DTD earlier in the trip and had smelled the incredible delectable scent of waffle cones and hot fudge wafting through the DTD air. It was hard to walk past any longer without making a stop. We inquired if we could get the order to go, as we were getting tired of the crowds and wanted to take our yumminess to our back porch on the water back at OKW and watch the boats. So as an FYI, you can get anything to go except for "The Earthquake" (which is the giant kitchen-sink-similar family size treat).

While waiting, I caught a glimpse of some freshly dipped waffle bowls. YUM!

After lots of incredibly important debate, we chose The Cable Car - Rocky Road Sundae - Rocky road, chocolate chip and chocolate ice cream smothered with creamy marshmallow topping and hot fudge, with whipped cream, chopped almonds, a cherry and a Ghirardelli Squares milk chocolate. $8.95

P5110256.jpg

and yes, its quite large...(on my lap in the car during our 5 min car ride back to the resort)

Can you say, "OMGoodness...amazing!"; because this was indeed quite the treat. I never eat desserts out, and when I do, I would never pay so much for them, but exxxxqqqqeeeze me, this is so worth it. After our drive back to the resort, we grabbed some water, and headed out to the porch where we gobbled down this quickly melting treat. The whipped cream was thick, cold, and creamy and blended nicely with the marshmallow cream. The ice cream was rich and indulgent. The hot fudge was plentiful and delicious. Complete with the cherry, for DH, and the chocolate square for me, and we entered into a nice little sugar coma. :rotfl2:

Now here's the funny thing, this is a rocky road sundae...yet I'm not a huge fan of either chocolate based ice cream or almonds...haha. So if they can make something that I'm not a usual fan of and have it taste that good, well, shoot, Ghiradelli, no wonder you're always so busy! :rotfl: Next time I want to get the berry Sundae...as I love fruit, more than anything, with ice cream!
