Good thing the underground is still there. Too bad Buckhead is no longer the same :(

And Underground Atlanta is home to the New Years Eve Peach Drop.

Pull up a chair and enjoy Mary Mac's Tea Room
Who's up for some Southern Cooking????

1644.jpg

Mary Mac's Tea Room is an historic restaurant in Atlanta, Georgia.

Mary MacKenzie opened the restaurant in 1945. Just after World War II, enterprising women in search of a living, many of them widowed by the war, were establishing restaurants throughout Atlanta. Calling their establishments "tea rooms" was a polite way of elevating their endeavor.

The restaurant is known for continuing the cooking traditions of MacKenzie and her successor, Margaret Lupo, who owned the Tea Room from 1962 until 1994. Every morning the workers shuck bushels of corn, hand wash selected greens and snap the fresh green beans by hand. Breads and desserts are baked on the premises.

The current owner is John Ferrell. The restaurant was mentioned in the Designing Women episode The Women of Atlanta, wherein Julia (Dixie Carter) made mention of "The Blue-haired ladies that play Bridge over at Mary Mac's Tea Room" as a possible photographic subject for a magazine.

Your Menu:

At Mary Mac's it is customary for you to fill out your own order and hand it to the server.

424453949_957254f8e6.jpg

An assortment of warm rolls and bread hit the table, which is very easy to fill up on because it is so good.

The real stars of the bread basket are the Cinnamon Rolls which the restaurant is famous for.

You can also buy them up front to tak e with you.

And because you have filled up on all of that deliscious bread you are likely going to have to do this shortly after getting your meal.

OK everyone...quick 20 minute workout in the RV's Gym before heading across the street to watch Krisy Kreme Doughnuts being made and them devouring them. :)

Hi there N10CJT......I see you are in Albany........ever taken exit 20.....Saugerties? My old stomping grounds.

Sure have..... on the Northway, that is! It's funny how you come to identify with a certain highway. My girlfriend is from Glens Falls (exit 18), and I taught this past year at Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs (exit 15), and Lake George is exit 20. At first I thought, what? Saugerties isn't exit 20! :lmao:
My brother went to SUNY New Paltz and my girlfriend worked for a newspaper in Kingston before I met her, but I haven't spent much time in Saugerties. We are, however, planning a trip to the Hudson Valley wineries sometime this summer, so it's definitely a possibility.....:thumbsup2
I actually dislike the Thruway, I must say. When I go home to New York, I take the Taconic!

Hi there! Well, did everyone enjoy Carowinds today??

Did you get any ice cream at the park?? I LOVE soft serve ice cream!!!

blueback3cones.jpg

You'd love the Lake George/ Glens Falls area, by the way. My girlfriend is flat out nuts about soft serve. There are places on every corner, it seems, but she has a rigid criteria for which one is best. She's so crazy that even though it was quite chilly, she insisted on going at the very beginning of April when her favorite shop opened. And there was a line. A LONG line. I was floored............:rotfl2:

Thanks so much for coming to visit! We left a lot to do, so make sure you come back soon!!!

There are tons of museums, professional and local theaters, restaurants and other attractions still to see........but for now.......we love that you were here!

So we are passing the baton on to..........

BIGTHUNDERMOUNTAIN!!! :yay: :yay: :yay:

Ha ha at first I thought this was some kind of religious picture! :rotfl2:

When you are done eating your Chili Dog with a Yellow Streak:

Accompanied by your Onion Rings:

And washing them all down with a Frosted Orange (tastes like those orange popsicles with the ice cream in the middle):

You can enjoy a fried pie like this one for dessert (this one is Peach...of course):

They also have an old school drive-in area to order and eat in your cars:

I think we're all going to be really fat by the time we make it to Disneyland........

WOW! :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2 BTM for a fantabulous touring experience. So many things that I am crazy for - aquariums, food, shopping, food, museums, food, parks...Way lots of fun!! Once again I want to drop everything and get on a plane...

Now it is time to COOL OFF!!!

CLICK HERE TO LISTEN TO THE ALAN JACKSON SONG INSPIRED BY THE CHATTAHOOCHIE

The Chattahoochee River runs from the Chattahoochee Spring in the mountains of northeast Georgia, southwestward past Atlanta and through its suburbs, then turns southward to form the southern half of the Georgia/Alabama state line. Further south it merges with the Flint River at Lake Seminole near Bainbridge to form the Florida panhandle's short Apalachicola River, and is the largest part of the ACF River Basin watershed. The name Chattahoochee is thought to come from a Creek word for "painted rock", possibly referring to the many colorful granite outcrops along the northeast-to-southwest segment of the river.

Have some river fun. Jump in a raft, canoe, kayak, tube or paddle boat and take a fun and relaxing trip down the Chattahoochee River (highlighted in yellow).

Pack your nice clothes in a clean trash bag. We are having a very nice lunch at Canoe...a restaurant located off the Chattahoochee.

More to post a little later...sorry this is so spanned out. I have to find the time to do it and remote into my home PC to post.

I don't want to leave anything out. A couple of quick highlights before leaving Atlanta and then off we go to Stone Mountain and Helen, GA.

The lazy river ride was fantastic! No worries about the touring taking too long - I always love being on vacation and am happy to stay on!

Thanks for your patience.

Here is some more about your riverside dining experience.

Here is where we would enter had we not docked our rafts, tubes and kayaks. :)

We certainly wouldn't be shooting the hooch during X-mas time either, so the decor would be slightly different.

Here is your restaurant description:

The rustic, elegant decor is nearly outdone by the stunning view of the Chattahoochee. The dining room mixes lodge atmosphere with modern touches: ironwork accents, a ceiling inverted to resemble the inside of a canoe, and an exposed kitchen. Service is warm and attentive. A dressy-casual crowd meets here to celebrate special occasions and enjoy the patio in nice weather.

Here is a closeup of the back and the view.
