We Be Trippin': The Great DIS-nee Road Trip

Good morning everyone!! Let's sleep in and then we'll get an early lunch. We’ll eat at Red Top. I think the burgers are big enough. It’s hard to tell but that’s a 6 inch bun!!:

Alright now that our bellies are full, lets drive up do Denver, otherwise known as the Mile High City.

Some Denver facts:
Denver receives 300 days of sunshine a year -- more annual hours of sun than San Diego or Miami Beach.
Denver is the nation's most highly educated city with the highest percentage of high school and college graduates.
Denver has the largest city park system in the nation; 205 parks in city limits and 20,000 acres of parks in the nearby mountains.
Denver is the "Baby Boomer" capital of America with the highest percentage of boomers of any major U.S. city.
Denver is 20th in the U.S. in population, but has the 10th largest downtown in terms of office space and retail space.
Denver has the nation's second largest performing arts center.
Denver is a mile high. There's a spot on the steps of the State Capitol building that is exactly 5,280 feet above sea level.

Let’s start our tour at the US mint. The tours are very interesting and free!!

Let’s get some dinner at The Broker. Located in an old Denver National Bank, diners eat in the bank vault.

After dinner, Denver’s got plenty of professional sports teams we could watch. Take your pick!

The Broncos:

From Wikipedia:
For most of their history they played in Mile High Stadium, which became one of the shrines of professional football for its record ongoing streak of sellouts. The team has sold out every home game (including post-season games) since the NFL merger in 1970, with the exception of two replacement games during the 1987 strike (but both were sold out before the strike). During home games, the attendance is announced to the crowd, along with the number of no-shows (the fans subsequently boo the no-shows).
The stadium's legendary home-field advantage is regarded as one of the best in the NFL, especially during the post-season. The Broncos have had the best home record in pro football over the past 32 years (1974–2006, 191–65–1). Mile High Stadium was one of the NFL's loudest stadiums, with steel flooring instead of concrete, which may have given the Broncos an advantage over opponents.
Since 2001, they have played at Invesco Field at Mile High, built next to the former site of the since demolished old Mile High Stadium. Sportswriter Woody Paige, along with many of Denver's fans, however, often refuse to call the new stadium by its full name, preferring to use Mile High Stadium because of its storied history and sentimental import. Additionally the Denver Post had an official policy of referring to the stadium as simply "Mile High Stadium" in protest, but dropped this policy in 2004.
The Colorado altitude has also been attributed as part of the team's home success. The stadium displays multiple references to the stadium's location of 5,280 ft. (1 mile) above sea level, including a prominent mural just outside the visiting team’s locker room. Many believe the physical and mental aspects of competing athletically with less air to breathe affects the performance of visiting teams.

Denver also boasts the Rockies:

Gosh, I not sure I had enough to eat with that one, measly, little hamburger!! :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

Great Job, Disneyfalcon!

Your tour has been amazing! I have so enjoyed seeing all the scenery - and of course eating the yummy food. That burger was great!

Thanks for sharing another great place to put on my list of places to visit! :thumbsup2

Scene 1: (footsteps pounding on the pavement-thump, thump, thump)

Suz: Wait, Wait! (pant, pant, huff, puff) I've almost caught up with you! Don't leave me behind. It was awful when you took the detour all the way back to Colorado! I JUST got to California and discovered you weren't there. Save a burger for me!!

The gang: Don't worry Suz, we couldn't forget you! That's right, we've been waiting here in Colorado knowing that you'd find us eventually.

Suz: Whew! Thanks for waiting guys! I can't wait to see where we go next. Bring it on!!!

Loved seeing the sights in Colorado. I was raised in Western Nebraska and for a long time, the only "real" shopping was in Denver. We often drove 4 hours to shop at Cinderella City mall (which I'm sure is no longer there). My uncle attended the Air Force Academy in the 60's so that was a fun memory as well. We went to an Air Force football game when I was young.

Yay Suz!! Go Air force!!

We are still here! And tomorrow we're visiting some shopping areas of Denver!! It's one of my favorite places to shop too!

Today let’s spend some time at Elitch Gardens. Elitches was once owned by Six Flags and while not up to Disney standards, still a super fun way to spend the day. There’s a waterpark attached to it which is included with the price of admission.

After some awesome roller coasters, let’s get some shopping in. There’s a few Archivers in Denver too, Marshay!!

Here’s some of my favorite malls though. The first one is themed like a mountain lodge. It’s gorgeous.

Alrighty it’s been a long day so let’s get some dinner. Let’s eat at Casa Bonita. People don’t eat at Casa Bonita because it’s the best Mexican food they’ve ever eaten, although the sopaipillas are amazing, it’s all about the atmosphere here. Cliff divers, flame jugglers, caves to explore, the list goes on.

Alright shopping and theme parks really wear me out (in a good way!!) so let’s head back to the hotel for the night. Tomorrow we’ll move on from Denver and see some more of Colorado!

I love Casa Bonita! Thanks for taking us there!

Oh my gosh! Jeff and I ate there on our honeymoon. We were married at my aunt and uncle's house in Boulder and then spent a night in Estes Park. We then spent a week in Utah and came back through to Denver and went to CB then. Thanks for posting that picture! I'm always amazed when you see the outside of CB that it's so big on the inside.

I'm glad I could help you relive some old memories!! And Suz you're exactly right, it's shocking how huge it is inside.

Oh I love Colorado, what beautiful mountains! I have a friend who just moved there, I will have to tell her to go check out Casa Bonita- sounds pretty crazy!

WOW! Great digs, fantastic eats, beautiful mountains and trails, great sights and fun. Thanks, I'm loving being in Colorado!

Great shopping!! Esp the scrapbooking!! :thumbsup2

OMG -- I never knew they had such restaurant/entertainment places -- caves, cliff divers, huge waterfalls!!! I want to go!! Who cares if it's not great food -- fill up on chips and salsa and watch the view!!:lmao: It just sounds like a FUN place!

Yay!! I’m glad you enjoyed Casa Bonitas!!

Let’s stop in Idaho Springs on our way out of Denver so we can eat at Beau Joe’s where your pizza is served with a jar of honey for the crust.

Then let’s head to Rocky Mountain National Park. Beautiful doesn’t even describe it.

We can hike, climb, ride horses, go river rafting, kayaking, fishing, play golf, play tennis, the possibilities are endless!!

We can see Long’s Peak from just about anywhere. Long’s Peak is one of the 58 “fourteeners“ (14,000 ft mountains) in Colorado. Long’s Peak rises 14, 259 feet above sea level.

But whatever we decided to do tonight, one thing is sure. I know where we’re staying tonight!!
Anyone see The Shining?

Alrighty try to get some sleep!! No worries, Jack Nicolson hasn’t been seen here in years!! Or Steven Webber for anyone who saw the cheesy TV remake.

Alright there’s so many more gorgeous cities in Colorado but we don’t’ want to spend all month here!! You will definitely want to come back during ski season though!!

Let’s rent a helicopter today so we can quickly see some of them.

Here’s Aspen:

Just three more places to visit tomorrow and we’ll head out of Colorado!!

So cool to see those cities -- they are just nestled there right between the mountains!!

I couldn't see the pizza photos with honey but it sounds good!

Ah man! You couldn't see them? Well trust me, Beau Joe's is delicious!!

And it is amazing how nestled in the mountains some of these cities are. At times they can be difficult to even reach!

I went back to see pics again and this time I could see the pizza - -YUM!! I never thought of putting honey on the crust but that sounds great! I'm one of those people who usually don't eat the crust since it's normally dry and needs some kind of sauce.
