After that whole big mess with the Poly and being told it was maxed out and getting the concierge room we decided as a family to stay at AKL. Both my boys and I think secretly my dh were upset that we were not staying at AKL. I talked it up just a bit too much ROFL. So to make them happy and myself we decided to do AKL for Thanksgiving.

We requested Uzema (sp) Savannah, third floor, zebra trail, queen with two bunk beds, and to see giraffe and zebras LOL NOT all in that order.

How does this sound?? Are there any special things for kids to do like crafts and such? Any special things you can think of that dh and I could do while we are there?? Please tell me ALL the good things about AKL that you can think of. Im REALLY getting very excited about this!!!

Oh and we have a ressie at Boma for Thanksgiving dinner YUM!!!

I pulled out my schedule that I received from AKL upon check-in. This is what just the hotel offers:

Track the animals 9:30am at arusha rock
Horticulture show and tell at arusha rock 9 am
Flamingo Feedings at 10:30am
Rec activities at pool and in the lobby at 12:20pm and 2:05pm
Cookie decorating at Boma at 1pm
Pelican feedings at 2pm
Lodge tour at 3:30pm (one of the natives from africa will walk through out the Lodge showing you all of the art, etc and explaining what it means.
Junior researcher at 4pm
poolside activities again at 5pm
games with the savannah guides at 6:30pm
storytelling (by african natives) at 7:30 out by the rock pit
cultural safari at 8:30 (this was great the natives talk about the differences in the US and their homeland, they are from dift parts of africa so every night it might be a dift person, talking about something dift. It worth it to do a few nights...
night vision tracking of the animals 10:15pm

We never did get to everything...but as you can see they offer alot just in the lodge....they also have a tv set up in the lobby that plays old mickey cartoons, my 9yr old liked to color and watch tv in the lobby.

Hope this helps, we just came back on 8/3 so this is a current schedule. They do these activities everyday.

Have a great trip, christine

Thanks for that schedule SafariChris, we'll be there in October too and was wondering what was offered! Like lvs_eeyore, we can't wait either!:bounce: :Pinkbounc :bounce: :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc :bounce: :Pinkbounc :bounce:

Lvs_eeyore,

We will be at AKL for 10 days over Thanksgiving also. Im curious if Boma has a traditional thanksgiving dinner or their regular buffet. We have a PS for Jiko who will be serving turkey. Im curious because some of our group wants to go with traditonal and some thought it might be fun to try something new for Thanksgiving. Thanks

Shannon

Christine thank you SOOOOOOOOOO MUCH!!!! That is EXACTLY what I have been looking for. I am even more excited about staying at AKL now!!!! I thought I would feel let down giving up the Poly Concierge but Im not at all!!!

Im not sure what Boma will be serving but I will call and find out. I can call through the Disney Club line so it wont cost me anything to call them. ROFL I think they know my voice by now!

No problem...I thought it was alot of fun to just be in the lodge, as for Boma and thanksgiving dinner, I'm not sure but I would imagine that they will have some traditional foods. The great thing about Boma was that the night my daughter and I ate there, they had some regular foods and a nice mix of authentic african cuisine as well. The did a great job in having enough foods to suit everyones taste's.

If I can remember right....they had:
prime rib, chicken, fish, flank steak
at least 10 dift side's
lots of dift salads, pasta, fruit, potato
3 dift soups
breads,
and maybe 10-15 dift desserts ranging from coconut tirimisu,
a zebra dome, choc. mousse, carrot cheesecake, melon tarts,

I loved Boma as you can probally tell, even if you eat at Jiko's I would still think of trying Boma also. I just can't say enough about it!!!

If you think of any other questions feel free to ask...of and when you check in ask for your hidden mickey search...we did it on our last night, it was the only night out of our entire 9 day stay that rained so that was a nice treat for a rainy day.

Oh and if you see the natives int he lobby in their native clothing get pictures right away, I saw them upon check in but then did'nt see them again (in the costuming) so I was disaapointed I wanted to get our picture with one of them. They are always in the lobby but most of the time they are dressed in a CM uniform.

:0) Christine

I called CRO today about what BOMA was doing for Thanksgiving Dinner. I was told they will have the regular buffet but also have turkey available. So its not a preplated meal. Sounds WONDERFUL!

Hi,

The only issue is that zebra are not on the "Uzima Savanna". Giraffe are located on all three of the savannas but, zebra and wilderbeast are only on the "Arusha Savanna". Your other requests look good though.

We stayed at the AKL twice for a total of 15 days in 2001 and loved this resort. Hope you have a great trip.

Enjoy your trip! I've stayed at the AKL twice, and it was great both times. It's a wonderfully themed resort, and I'm sure your whole family will have a great time. Enjoy Boma too--make sure to eat breakfast there if you get the chance--it was super! The refillable mugs they sell at Mara are super cute too. :)

Great news for you!!! You will love AKL! :)

We stayed there in May of this year and fell in love with the place!! We were on the Arusha Savannah with views of animals throughout the day!! We had a Queen size bed with Bunk beds, which the kids loved!! It really is a beautiful resort!

We ate at Boma's while there and it was excellent!! Lots of salads, pastas, prime rib, steak, 4 different soups, 4 different entrees for the kids, lots of side dishes! The kids loved the desserts, especially the Zebra Domes!! They are so good!!

Best thing I liked about AKL is the pool!! We have a 5 and 3 year old and the Zero Depth entry is awesome!! The kids loved being able to walk right in to as far as they felt comfortable!!

Have a great time!! :)

We stayed on the Kudu trail and we had Zebra and Giraffe's. The zebra were not around for 2 of the days because they were taken off for check-ups, etc...but they did return, in enough time for us to enjoy them.

Glad to hear you guys are staying at AKL:D :D

Yes. You can see zebra and giraffe from the Kudu Trail if you are facing the "Arusha Savanna". But the other side of the Kudu Trail faces Sunset Savanna which just has giraffe no zebra. So the only savanna that has giraffe and zebra is the "Arusha Savanna", which can be seen from the Kudu Trail or the Zebra Trail.
