When the dates open for 2005. I am taking my then 13 year old son to DL for the 50th Anniversary.

I can't wait. It is going to be the vacation of our dreams.

Here is what I have figured out:
Dates: June or October
5 nights
Playing a side trip to Mexico

Going to start buying DD for meals this week.

Need tips for the following:
Hotels -- planning on staying in a Good Neighbor One
$$$ -- how much for food on a daily bases

Looks like you've got lots of time to plan a super vacation. Just curious, why the side trip to Mexico?

Also, you indicate a 2005 cruise is in the works. Have you heard the rumors that one of the Disney ships might be repositioned to the west coast in conjunction with the anniversary? Maybe you can combine the two trips and really have a memorable vacation!

I think either June or Oct wouldn't be so bad- Oct they will prob have the HMH Haunted Mansion Holiday overlay to the HM.

As for food- It really depends on your eating habits- If you are a heavy eater meaning substansial meals for all 3 meals youll spend alot more than a decent meal and kids meals for the day- Personally I budget 20 a day per person- Which usually gets either 2 fast food meals or a nice meal (Plaza Inn, Blue Bayou) and a cheap meal (usually kids meals) and a snack (churros, skewer, etc)

Basically a Fast food meal will be 8-9 bucks, a Sit Down one 15 Character dining 20-25,

I can not be that close to Mexico and not go. I love and have always wanted to go to Mexico.

As far as food. Well DS is a teenage boy -- need I say more :D

If I could order kids meals for me that would be fine. I know the most of the $$$$ will be in drinks. We both are huge drinkers (that does not sound right--not alcohol) I plan to do water bottles for us. But still we drink a ton.

Well if the rumors are true and the Disney ship is over in CA then I would love a land/sea thing. Esp. if it goes to Mexico.

I am going to see if I can find out what other places are to eat around DL. Like McDonald's etc. I can buy GC here and use them there.

June- is real iffy cause I have a huge conference for work that happens that month. So I will have to find out the dates. I can go the week or 2 after. But not during or before.

Lots of things to do before then. And it is over a year away. I did pick up a book from the Travel agent today. So I can look at it a bit more.

:earseek: Can't wait. I know that if I start saving now We will get there. First up get the deposit ready in case it is a cruise thing.

The only reason I asked about Mexico is because the area just over the border through San Diego is not exactly glamorous. I didn't know if you had been before and hoped you realized Tijuana is a far cry from Cancun.

It's often the same price or cheaper to eat in DL or in Downtown Disney. There's an IHOP across the street from DL and it's prices about 50% higher than any other IHOP I've been to (and I don't think they have as good of food or service as other IHOPs). They usually have the Haunted Mansion Holiday up by the beginning of October.
