make 100% sure your bag (personal item and carry on) will fit into their sizers. There are a fair number of horror stories about people who took luggage that was (just a little bit) too big and, depending on the gate agents, ended up paying a lot because their carry-on became a "checked at the gate" bag.

Make sure you check in online, since I don't think this includes checking in at the counter. And yes, definitely check the size of your bag. If it doesn't fit in the box, you'll pay an absurd amount of money to gate check it.

It's not that it's smaller than it's "supposed to be" it's that it's slightly different than the other major carriers. But more importantly, it *appears* that they may enforce it more stringently than other airlines.

The fee to gate check a non compliant bag is $99. The gate attendant is paid $10.

Over pack a bag, it won't easily fit the sizer and you'll pay. Some of the youtube videos are "staged". People remove stuff from the bag intending to immediately put them back. They post the before video but skip the video after they're told to put the stuff back then put the bag back in the sizer

Frontier is currently offering an upgrade to Gold status for a flat $69 good until December of 2026. I doubt this will last long. It's a great deal if you fly Frontier more than a few times and pay for seats/carry on.

I worked for Frontier for a smidge.... depending on your departure airport, some of the gate agents are very shady, they get $$$$ for every bag they "flag" at the gate. Charges around $90 bucks! I've seen people throw away personal items, shoes, clothing anything to get the bag to 40 pounds, and other people take wheels off bags to make them fit. Also, if you dare speak to a ticket agent, they'll charge you!!! Be prepared. Oh the stories... Shady, shady, shady...
