We decided to upgrade the free dining to DxDP because we want to try different foods. Because of where we live. Thats right because of our location. Our town only has a bar that serves food and a Dairy King (mom and pop type place)Closed Mondays and closes at 2pm the rest of the week. Nearest McDonalds, Subway, Taco Johns 45min. Nearest Arbys, Village Inn, Montana Mikes 60min. There are no non-chain type reasturants with in a hour and half drive. Heck our Pizza Hut is 15min away and is only open Thur, Fri, Sat & Sun, yep a 4-day pizza Hut. We will drive 3hrs to Denver for weekend get away just to eat somewhere and to shop.

We will be trying foods that we want to try, because of our location. We will try a couple of signature places and have fun.

I feel your pain! Sounds similar to where I live! EAT TIL YOU DROP!:dance3:

You are not alone! This is EXACTLY why we do deluxe dining! We get to eat out at three wonderful sit down restraunts every day on vacation and LOVE it! Our small town has a bit more than what you are describing, but not much (here we get to select from multiple fast food or pizza places or Bob Evans!) Seriously! We too travel a couple hours (to Columbus) to go out to eat and shop! So the deluxe dining is fabulous for us!!! :goodvibes .... not to mention our youngest is a melt down drama king if he doesn't get three solid relaxed meals a day!!!

I can't wait to try the foods, Im almost as excited to eat as I am to be on the rides.

oh yeah, I hear ya - rural living has it's culinary drawbacks, lol! ENJOY your Disney dining...where else do you get the chance to try out so many different kinds of foods...and flavors. Love it!

Although we have a local bar that serves some good fried chicken & a local steak house (that just opened this month) it's 30-45 drive to get any variety. We love the dining plans, and have become converts to the deluxe since we figured out how to stretch those credits out & avoid scheduling meals too close together (as well as some 2 credit options so we're not eating 3 big meals a day.)

So far, we've eaten at about 35 of the Disney table-service restaurants that take the dining plan...and there's a few we're not all that interested in, but will be working our way through nearly 20 more. Yum!

We're doing the deluxe too. People keep telling me it's so much food and not worth it but we love to try new places. Especially things we don't have here. No one said you have to stuff yourself every meal either. We're on vacation and have all the time in the world to take in all Disney has to offer us. As foodies great restaurants and choices are all part of the experience. It's our first time to Disney together and we're so excited.

We upgrade too. We like character meals but they are expensive. Without the plan we'd do one, now we are doing 4! I like trying all the new foods and with QS last year, I got so sick of burgers, chicken and wraps!! And fries...I didn't want to see fries for months after our trip.

Plus, with it being August, I like sitting for an hour or so in the afternoon for lunch, relaxing a bit in the AC, having a light lunch and some cold drinks. It's our break instead of going back to the resort. Dinner serves the same purpose. I am so excited about the ADRs I have. My husband is sick of hearing "I can't wait to try xxxxx."

Go for it! We do it every year and love it. It is a lot of food but if you're creative you can have some wonderful meals. Our plan is we always do a buffet/Character breakfast late morning and a 2 credit TS every night. Snacks we usually use for F&W (that's the time we usually go) and if we have some left over snack credits-we bring home some goodies to keep the after trip high going a little longer;)

Enjoy yourselves and don't worry about what anyone else says-when they go on their trip they can run it any way they like:thumbsup2

You literally took these words out of our mouths. BTW, love your profile picture!! Hang ten boys

Hilarious! This is pretty much why we've decided to do it this year.
We'll go back to being deprived when we get home but at least we'll have our memories.:cloud9:

We love love LOVE the deluxe plan for much the same reason... We live in a small town with a McDs, a mom & pop greasy spoon, and a couple of bar-restaurants. Even something as mundane as TGI Fridays or Applebees is 45min away. We very, very seldom eat out because there's nothing close to home that's worth the money. And at Disney we SPLURGE in a big way - signature dining most nights, lobster and sushi and exotic foods you just don't get in small town middle America.

We've done the deluxe plan twice now and loved it both times. It is so wonderfully flexible, very luxe/all-inclusive feeling, and we all get to enjoy the variety of food that is really the only thing lacking in the lovely little community we call home. We don't pressure ourselves to eat every bite served (though we have a toddler who happily helps polish off our dinners) and we don't go crazy trying to get the most out of the credits. We just enjoy eating at a variety of restaurants and not worrying about menu prices at all while we're there. :thumbsup2

You just described where we live here in MI ;)

Actually, we don't even have a McD's but we do have a Tony's lol.

To the OP, this is exactly why we are going deluxe this time. Even with the kids. My oldest is already planning what she is going to order LOL. Future foodie :goodvibes

Enjoy your food!!!

We are doing deluxe also for some of the same reasons. We love experimenting with new food and trying new things. We also like knowing that whatever we want to eat is pretty much paid for in advance. We may not get all of our disney money's worth, but it is not really about that for us. A lot of people on the boards are anti-deluxe because it is not a value and it is a lot of food that they could never eat. We don't plan on eating every bite, but we do plan on enjoying the ones we do!

There is NOTHING in western Kansas. I am originally from Lawrence and have been through different parts of NW Kansas many times. We have family who live there. They used to come visit us and would never let my mom cook because they wanted to go out to eat since they didn't get to do it very often.

HAVE FUN AND ENJOY!!!!

We are doing DXDP this year. We are doing 4 signature meals and 2 dinner shows. We are also doing almost all the character meals. My mom is like a little girl, wanting to do as many character meals as possible. For us, the meals are as much a part of the experience as the shows, rides and other attractions.

:lmao: Most people East of Hays think Hays is the NW end of the state. We have a rule here if you go somewhere out of the area you do not eat anything you have back home (or near home) NO McD's, Burger King, Pizza Hut, Subway. So we head to Denver or Colorado Springs alot.
