A friend of mine, recently went to WDW for the first time with her family, and had an awesome Disney stay for first timers. They booked only a month ago, but her husband did the research and was able to get them coveted ressies for some of the best places. They also stayed at the Contemporary Resort with a MK view....I swear he has to be on these boards knowing all of these "secrets."
Anyway, on a whim, I went online and priced out what a typical stay like that would cost. Even though they got a great package rate, the hubster and I would have never spent money like that (of course now we are DVCers, but in the past we only stayed at Moderates and nickled and dimed every penny).
Okay, so at dinner I share this information "A typical stay like Lisa's would have cost xx..." "they didn't do too shabby for first timers......" "I am impressed they knew the 'must-dos'" and that opened the door.
The hubster aksed me what our cash discount was for DVC and what our AP discount would be on a regular room. So I tell him what I think I know, when he pipes up with "Can you call and see what is available for Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday?" My jaw hits the floor.
Fast forward an hour later, when I am on the phone with CRO and learn that a DVC studio is available for only $150 more than a moderate room (we were just planning on staying at Port Orleans) with our AP discount.
So now we are booked for a three night getaway for next week at WDW!
I am sooooo excited.
I told him in no way I was hinting around, and he told me that he was thinking of going away somewhere before school starts (he's a teacher) in two weeks.
We banked the rest of points for this year, and weren;t supposed to go again until next April with my in-laws.
Our daughter (age 3) is going to flip. We aren't telling her until we hit the road. We are staying at Kidani, which is where we stayed at the beginning of June as part of a split stay.

Oh and my friend came back from her trip, totally impressed with Disney and is intrigued by the whole DVC thing. She asking me for info...
