A friend of mine, recently went to WDW for the first time with her family, and had an awesome Disney stay for first timers. They booked only a month ago, but her husband did the research and was able to get them coveted ressies for some of the best places. They also stayed at the Contemporary Resort with a MK view....I swear he has to be on these boards knowing all of these "secrets."

Anyway, on a whim, I went online and priced out what a typical stay like that would cost. Even though they got a great package rate, the hubster and I would have never spent money like that (of course now we are DVCers, but in the past we only stayed at Moderates and nickled and dimed every penny).

Okay, so at dinner I share this information "A typical stay like Lisa's would have cost xx..." "they didn't do too shabby for first timers......" "I am impressed they knew the 'must-dos'" and that opened the door.

The hubster aksed me what our cash discount was for DVC and what our AP discount would be on a regular room. So I tell him what I think I know, when he pipes up with "Can you call and see what is available for Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday?" My jaw hits the floor.

Fast forward an hour later, when I am on the phone with CRO and learn that a DVC studio is available for only $150 more than a moderate room (we were just planning on staying at Port Orleans) with our AP discount.

So now we are booked for a three night getaway for next week at WDW!

I am sooooo excited.

I told him in no way I was hinting around, and he told me that he was thinking of going away somewhere before school starts (he's a teacher) in two weeks.

We banked the rest of points for this year, and weren;t supposed to go again until next April with my in-laws.

Our daughter (age 3) is going to flip. We aren't telling her until we hit the road. We are staying at Kidani, which is where we stayed at the beginning of June as part of a split stay.

:banana::goodvibes:cool1::yay:

Oh and my friend came back from her trip, totally impressed with Disney and is intrigued by the whole DVC thing. She asking me for info...

Impromptu trips are the best ones! You don't "think them to death". There's no time! Have a blast! :thumbsup2

I really hope we can do one of these one day - sounds sooo fun - have a blast!!!!

Just curious why you went with CRO instead of DVC? I have a hard time spending cash for a room when I have points.

We had already banked our points for the rest of the year (Dec use year had to bank by July 31st) and when I banked them, we didn't really think any other trips would be occuring the rest of the year.

Also we needed to have points banked, as we are taking my in-laws with us next year, and we definitely need a 2 bedroom when they come along -- hence why we don't just "borrow".

Enjoy this extra trip!

School starts early by you, or do you have year round school?

Congratulations on the last minute trip. Since we always drive I doubt we'll ever do such an impromptu trip. I so jealous and very happy for you and yours. Have a great time.

No. School starts near the beginning of August and ends at the end of May.

Colleges 'round here start in the middle of August to end by the frist or second week of December (Dec is usually finals time really). Just the way it is. I like it though, it allowed us to take a trip at the end of May/beginning of June for our "real vacation" for this year before it got too crowded. Sometimes things end at the end of May with post planning activities for teachers and some mandatory workshops running into June, before real vacation time hits. The end of July is sometimes a mess, for the same reasons (workshops, pre-planning, etc).

Makes sense to me! Enjoy!:thumbsup2

We are riding that crazy train with you. Yesterday, my wife tells me she wants to take a short trip somewhere for four days next week. We were thinking about going somewhere here in Texas. However, I started figuring the costs and realized we could do Disney cheaper. We already had money set aside for AP's (we are also going Thanksgiving week and also next June). So, all it is going to cost us is gas, hotel, and food. We are getting a room with an AP discount at POP. Gotta love that Disneyitis! :goodvibes
