Just back from our first Poly stay in a LVC room! I am sooooooooooo glad I listened to my children - they were begging to stay at the Poly but I could not tear myself away from the GF!! We've stayed there the last 4 times and GF is our favorite! We now love Poly LVC just as much! You really can't compare the 2 resorts - they are both so unique. Really apples and oranges and I mean that in a good way.

We were in 3501 which had the most gorgeous view of the castle!! It looked almost identical to Alohaguy's view in 3505! We were right next to the lounge which was great. It was not noisy at all although since we were also next to the ice machine we heard people a couple of times late at night or first thing in the morning. I was surprised to hear children yelling and running in the halls at midnight! But it wasn't too bad! The room was clean and except for a little peeling wallpaper everything was in good shape! I really don't feel like the furnishings need replaced but it will be a nice bonus! We had to call down for a refrigerator and the CM forgot to give us our leis so DH went down to grab some. I almost forgot, the kids did not know where we were staying till we pulled up to the Poly and when we did there was a man twirling a baton with fire on both ends out in front of the lobby! The kids were so excited to see this!! (Kids also were able to make leis and color in the lobby which they did not have time to do!)

Concierge was also a surprise to my family and they loved it! When we got there they were serving Chicken lo Mein and Spring rolls. We all enjoyed it! The breakfast offerings were great - especially the pineapple bread. It was great to have drinks and coffee whenever we wanted and the kids were loving the cookies. Some of the guest behavior was a little disappointing. A whole family ran upstairs through the lounge, dripping wet from the pool and left puddles all over the floor and about mowed us over. This included the mother! There were some obnoxious preteens when we were watching WISHES from the lounge which was fabulous since the music was piped in! DH asked them to keep it down and they left after making fun of him! I just wish people would keep better tabs on their kids and go over their manners with them! :teeth: We just ignored these ignorant people and had a great time!

The kids loved the Volcano pool especially the slide! We took the boat to the MK about every time which was very convenient! A very easy and pretty walk to the TTC. We didn't realize where the arcade was until the 2nd to last day much to the disappointment of the kids! DH was happy about it though!
We loved Boutiki and got cute Poly tshirts for both kids as well as the Poly pins! Kona Cafe was very good for breakfast and I enjoyed the Tonga Toast! I had heard it was very sweet which was perfect for me! Captain Cooks was good for burgers and chicken strips, etc. Just ate there once. We had to cancel our Ohana ressie because we weren't going to make it back in time but we are hoping to try it next spring! We planned this trip last minute and were grateful that the Concierge CM's were able to get us the 2 ADR's! By the way , CM's were very nice and the kids loved saying Aloha to them! They gave us a late check out which really helped! I don't think Hawaii was very full.

We had a wonderful stay! The parks were pretty empty in the A.M. which was great! We would swim in the afternoon and go back to the parks at night ! It wasn't too humid and hot because the afternoon showers would cool things off. We live up the coast a few hours so we're used to it, but it was nice that it was a little cooler than we expected!

I know there are alot of Poly returnees lately but I'll be glad to answer any questions! We will be staying GF Main Building in December which were are anxiously awaiting !! We have already decided to spend Spring Break at the Poly LVC again! If you are staying at the Poly for the first time like we did - not just Concierge - you have picked a fabulous resort !!! :flower:

I am torn between the Poly GVC and the GF LV or SLC. I had decided on Poly, but now there are no more AAA rooms. So I am still GF LV while I try to decide if it is worth more $ to switch the Poly GVC or switch to SLC.

What do you like about one over the other and vice versa? What about the guests at the 2 resorts? How do the concierge services compare? I know the main bldg at GF is nicer than SLC.

Thanks!

Thanks for the great review...I really do miss the Poly and we were just there August 11-17..We stayed in Tokelau GV, but it was really beautiful...I would love the stay LVC, someday....

Hi, glad you had a terrific trip! Sounds wonderful!

We had only a so/so stay Poly LVC last summer. Actually kind of blah and unfriendly. My husband doesn't ever care to stay there again. :guilty:

I LOVE the GF - especially RPC. Lucky you, going in December!! :goodvibes I think the lounge staff and other CMs are much nicer at the GF. The guests that we have seen at GF are a bit better behaved, too. Just my opinion from what I have experienced. :flower:

I am going to stay BWI & RPC for our spring break. After your December trip to GF RPC, you may change your mind about the Poly for spring break ;) .... Maybe I will see you in the RPC lounge! :)

Take care-

Yay thanks for the review! I haven't stayed at Poly since I was little so I'm very excited about our trip in a couple weeks. We have a lagoon view, but not concierge. I'm hoping we'll get a good castle view in the Tahiti building.

Kristx,

That is a hard call! Have you stayed at either resort before? We usually stay GF LV and love it! I think and DH agreed ,that the level of service is a tad bit higher at the GF as far as elegance. But the Polynesian is supposed to be a more laid back theme which we really came to appreciate. They are really 2 different themes! The only other thing we noticed was that GF had their own themed toiletries. Also they usually give you 6 or 8 bath towels at the GF and at the Poly we just had 4. Not a big deal to us. We asked Housekeeping for 2 more towels and they remembered to put 6 in there for the rest of our stay! Mabye I'll have a different opinion after GF RPC! We've never stayed Concierge at the GF before so I can't really comment on that . I think you can't go wrong with either choice! Good luck with your decision!

Lives4Disney,

I'm sorry you didn't have the greatest Poly LVC stay. I was a little worried about GF withdrawal but I'm glad we booked a Lagoon View! I think I would have been a little bummed in a garden view after staying LV . Not being snobby - that's just our thoughts and our situation! You're right - I may be totally spoiled after RPC - this is our first time! We can't wait!

Thanks! I know I will enjoy either. I grew up in Jacksonville and we would do the drive there and back on the same day :( I always longed to get on the resort monorail :lol I stayed at the Grovesnor 10 years ago. That is the only time I stayed inside the gates.

I live in Dallas now and am taking my kids to WDW for the first time. I am staying at a monorail resort this time! I just can't decide which one. We really enjoy and appreciate nice resorts. But we are not victorian style people. But I don't care for older facilities either. Just torn. We stayed at the Hyatt Goat Island in New Port, RI this summer. The room was about $400 per night and the furniture/bedding was new, but the room and building were very old. I actually preferred the clean and new all suite type place by the airport for about $115 per night. Silly I know.

Which LV GF room was your most favorite? Have you done SLC yet?

Thanks for your review, princessessrule4! Sounds wonderful. We are at the 45 day mark and we're getting so anxious!!! Posts like yours make me even more excited about our upcoming trip (POLY LVC!!!)!

Thanks!

When are you going? The Hawaii Concierge bldg where we stayed is being renovated through mid October. They are scheduled to start next week. That may make a difference to you. The new rooms look awesome! ( you can see them on Tikiman's site!)
We have not stayed SLC. We are staying Main Building Concierge (RPC) at GF in December. We are very excited! Our favorite LV's at the GF are Sago Cay, (a quieter building,IMHO) and Big Pine Key. I think part of Big Pine is smoking( we are not smokers) but we never smelled any. I don't know if it goes by floor or what. You can check out the GF "Frequently Asked Questions "Thread and they would probably know! I've gotten a lot of great info there! Alot of people like Boca Chica but we thought the walk was a little far! Mabye because it rained a lot that trip! I don't think Sugarloaf has any Lagoon view rooms which is one of the reasons we haven't tried it yet!

I used to live down in Las Colinas - I love Dallas!

You will love it! And it sounds like you will be there after the rehab! Let us know about the new rooms and lounge! Have a great trip!

A few years ago, a couple friends and I shared a GVC room. Sure, LVC would
have been fun, but we were completely happy with GVC. :sunny:

As for the fireworks, it really is wonderful watching from the lounge!
But first, we went to the MK for Spectromagic. We took the boat,
stood close to the train station and exit, then watched the parade.
As soon as the parade started going up Main Street, we zoomed out
of the park, straight on a boat back to the Polynesian.

By the time we settled into the lounge, the ELP was about to start,
followed by the fireworks. (At the time, it was Fantasy in the Sky, but
still wonderful!)

That week was one of my best WDW vacations ever.

Thank you for the report! It sounds like you had a magical trip. We too found LVC to be incredbible and cannot wait to return. :flower:

Thanks for the report and I'm glad you discovered the magic of the Polynesian. ;)

I so agree with you about comparing GF and Polynesian. I love them both but they are just very different. I find no difference in guests behavior. Most are polite at both resorts and I've encountered the odd person with no manners at each. We've also had great interaction with CMs at both as well.

Sounds like you have two great trips to anticipate. Happy planning! :cool1:

Every evening they left us a voicemail message telling us the EMH park and the weather for the next day! We also found a chocolate Polynesian postcard waiting for us in the room when we arrived along with a nice note! It's almost too pretty to eat!

You are making me homesick for the Polynesian! We don't return until December and I can't wait. We loved the concierge building! I have to agree with livesfordisney that the staff seemed a little standoffish when I compare them to the staff at the BWI concierge(we just stayed there in August), but I would go back now if I could. There is something about that resort that just makes you relax!
I thought that I would never want to stay anywhere but the Poly concierge, but after staying at the BWI last month, I have decided I want to try them all!

This was our first concierge stay so we really don't have anything to compare it to! You're right - it has made us want to try concierge at other resorts! We are staying concierge at the GF in December and would like to try CR Atrium Club after the rehab. I'm glad you enjoyed Boardwalk Concierge! Mabye we will tear ourselves away from the monorail resorts at some point! ;)

I completely agree that comparing the GF and the Polynesian is difficult. I have had both negative and positive experiences at each, and find guest behavior to be the same at both as well. I haven't noticed either hotel having more friendly or unfriendly CM's either. I think it is purely a matter of taste, which many have to discover for themselves.

Princessesrule4 - I'm glad you had such a great trip and that you loved your view. In my opinion, it is very difficult to beat Poly LVC. Thanks for the report.
