If we use the bulk of our points in November, should our use year be December? That would put us 11 months out for booking, right?

I just want to make sure I get this right!

Thanks
Donna

Since we plan on a lot of November trips, we went with a October UY. Since November is only your 2nd month of your uy it gives you time to reschedule your trip (Dec-Sept) or time to bank points.

The 11 & 7 month window don't really have anything to do with your UY, it's more to do with your Home resort and is based on the days that you want to stay.

My home resort is SSR, OCT UY. I was able to book SSR at 11 months(December) for Thanksgiving, if I had wanted to stay at BCV for the same week I have to wait until the 7th month(April).

Similar to Starr W.'s response -- I'd suggest an Oct UY.

Read carefully the rules on BANKING points and then reconsider your position.

Remember that when your use year is has nothing to do with when you book. Only your check out date determines when you can book. The use year only determins when you can bank and when new points come into your account.

I agree with the others, that if you are planning to usually use your points for November trips, and October use year would be good, because in the even you would have to cancel a trip, you would have plenty of time to re use those points or bank them. If your use year is December, those points would not be available to bank should you need to cancel, because you would be past your banking windows.

Glad I asked!

What IS the banking period? I understand the concept of banking, but what is the window of time you have to bank?

TIA
Donna

It will be filtered out in the PM as well. You will need to email the information directly to the OP
Ah, thanks for letting me know. I tried searching this site for an easy-to-read reference table of the banking deadlines but didn't find one. Certainly plenty of helpful conversations around the topic -- but not the basic table.

Donna (OP): Use Google on the following search words:
  • dvc bankingborrowing.html
Click on the first link (from a site that looks promising ... with title, "Banking and Borrowing Information")

You my bank 100% of your annual allotment of points during the first half of your Use Year.

From 3 to 6 months before the end of your Use Year you my bank up to 50% of your annual allotment of points.

During the 3rd month before the end of your Use Year you may bank up to 25% of your annual allotment of points.

Banking is cumulative. You can bank some points in the beginning of the UY and then some more later as long as the banking deadlines and percentages are followed.

Example: Oct. UY
Bank up to 100 % of your points by March 31
Bank up to 50 % of your points by June 30
Bank up to 25 % of your points by July 31

We have a Oct. UY and it works well for us we usually travel in Feb but may travel in Nov, Dec, or April. We also will never go to FL in the summer (June - Aug). This allows us to cancel our plans or just cancel a day or two with out loss of points since we can still bank them into next year. I find having a UY at the beginning of the first 7 months that you travel to be a great asset. It allows you more flexibility to deal with waitlists and adjusting you vaction plans.
