We are a "moderate" family! Who else is?

Dh and I had a discussion about next year's "use" of our AP's- how many trips, etc....

I haven't worked outside the home in six years, so our traveling has been very limited! We did get to stay at AKL and will be doing WL this Nov, but the deluxes will be difficult for us to manage in the near future (I'm going back to school) and we will have to stick with the mods for now.... Anyone else in the same boat??? We haven't tried POR or POFQ and now they will be closing!

After trying CSR we were sold on the moderates! They have everything we need and want!

So, what is your story and why do you love the mods????

BTW, if the codes vanish we will be a value family:)

We also tend to gravitate to the moderate resorts. For the money, they seem to offer everything that we need, and have been very convenient.

Our favorite is PO-FQ, followed closely by PO-R and CBR. We aren't fond of CSR, though.

We have stayed in WL, and found we were much happier staying at the moderates. We really did like the Contemporary, and thought that it was worth the extra money, but if the money isn't there, the moderates suit us just fine!

Mods all the way and CSR is our favorite! We didn't like the Contemporary at all.

Your story sounds very similar to mine. I stopped working several months ago, and I'm going to school full-time. I'll be in school for quite a while longer, so I don't see any deluxes in our near future!

That's okay with us though. We'd rather go to WDW more often and stay at the moderates than not get to go as much just to save up for a deluxe.

We're staying in our first moderate (CSR) in June, but we're very excited about it. This trip will be for just DH and I, but our boys are already saying they'd like to try CSR when we all go together again! And if it came right down to it, we'd be happily become a value family!

If you decide that you want to try out a value resort, Pop Century is finally opening the Classic Years December 14, 2003! I think that staying in the 50's or 60's would be kind of fun!

I know this sounds totally crazy, but DH and I are thinking about a value for our anniversary trip! It would only be for two nights and one full park day. Our reason for maybe doing this is that since we won't have our 5yo DS with us an it won't be hot (Jan), we could stay at the parks all day (well maybe just come back to change for dinner) and we really won't be using the resort that much. Pop Century is a definite possibility. We hear so much about the Classic years, but I am really looking forward to see what the Legendary years will be like. I got to see what the inside of the Pop Century rooms look like and they are pretty nice. The furniture is not like the AS. I can't remember the website, though.

If we save on that weekend, then our memorial weekend fund will be bigger. We have a rule on vacations: pay up front

We are in the same boat...I have not worked for the last 6 1/2 years. We always stay at the mod's because wee need 2 rooms. We like to go at least once a year and we can't afford 2 rooms at a delux resort and the suites are toooo expensive. I have 2 step kids DSS11 & DSD9. We also have 4 kids together. DD6, DD4, DD1, and DS due 7/2003. The thing I really like about the mods is the food court. With ALL the kids it is much easier and less expensive.

To add to the discussion about moderate vs. deluxe resorts--the price of food is quite a bit more at the deluxe hotels. We stayed at the Polynesian for a very good rate--better than some moderate resorts at different times of the year. However, we spent more than triple what we had budgeted for food. An apple and small carton of milk at the sanck bar (I forget its name--maybe Captain Cook?) cost $6!!!

Of course, one doesn't have to eat all their meals at their resort and usually eat a fair number of meals outside their resort. But be forwarned--even if you get a "too good to pass up" rate at a deluxe resort, realize they're going to make up their discount on the food. After all, you have to eat sometime and its only realistic to plan on eating about 50% of your meals where you stay.

On the other hand, I've found the meals priced much lower (I can't say cheaper) at moderate and value resorts. This time I'm staying at Best Western Downtown Disney. A much better rate, and although I can't say from personel experience, there seems to be more inexpensive eating options available. The atmosphere is still the "disney magic" without the high prices.

We prefer the mods. I am a widow with two kids at home. I feel I have a great time at CBR and as long as I am at Disney it is great. I do want to stay at Pop Century when it opens.

I have stayed at All Stars and it was ok. I like the theming of CBR better.

This summer we'll be staying at the Poly...only because we can ..w/ the ft package. But in my heart I am a CBR girl. Once stayed at the YC because there was a deal and I whined about wanting to be at CBR the whole time. It must've taken us 20 min. to get back to our room from the pool or bus stop. What I love about CBR is how you fallout of your car, bus, pool and intoyour room! I really prefer a door from the gorgeous grounds and into my room over a lobby, elevator, etc...

I think I'm a deluxe kinda gal stuck with a value kinda bank account!:p

Actuall when I stay on site I always stay in ASMO, because my husband doesn't travel with my ds and I.

If he did I'm sure we would stay in a mod or deluxe, but when it's just the 2 of us the ASMO makes the most sense. We then spend extra money on things like the illum. cruise.

We are definitely moderate people. We stayed at DL (when it was DL) twice and have recently stayed at CBR. I just love walking through the grounds, thay are so beautiful, it is very relaxing, especially after a day at the parks. I really like not waiting for elevators. Also, everyone we have met at these resorts have been very nice and friendly.

We are truly a moderate family. I think maybe we would splurge one time or another on a deluxe. We think a deluxe would feel kind of stuffy. We like to let our hair hang lose.

We're moderate people too. I work for the municipal government so I don't make a whole lot of money (get lots of vacation time, though ;) ) and DH is an apprentice butcher (retired young from his first career, got bored as a "house-husband" and decided to try something new!) so there isn't a whole lot of money there, either.

We can stay at a deluxe once in a while, or stay at a moderate once a year!

Now the big choice came--we can continue to stay in a moderate (and take our cruise) once a year, or we can split that stay with a value and take "the kids"--my son, his wife and my granddaughter. So it looks like we'll be seeing you all at the mods and values for a long time to come!

Not to buck the trend but I prefer the location of the deluxe. On a trip in which I can't budget a deluxe I prefer to stay offsite. For the same price as a moderate I can get a suite hotel with breakfast, mini refrige and micro. Pick the right property and you're not much further from the parks than an onsite hotel.

I always have a car, I wouldn't rely on offsite shuttle bus service.
For a real budget trip try PL.

Sometimes we're mod, sometimes we're value, all depending on our budget. I prefer the theming of the moderates. POFQ is my favorite, followed by POR, CBR, and CSR.

I look at it this way--I'd rather spend 14 nights at WDW in a value or mod than 7 nights at WDW in a deluxe. The resorts aren't as important to me as the parks.

We're a moderate family! POFQ, all the way, baby! I love it there, just walking around makes me happy! Probably going in October for DD's birthday with DH and MIL, so I'm not sure what we're going to do! I so wanted to show MIL POFQ :(

If I can get a moderate for $20/night more than value, than we're a moderate CBR family. Otherwise, we're a value family. We've gone deluxe (AKL, WL, CR), and only the location of the CR was worth the extra $$ for me. (One day we'll try Poly, but I think I'd have to win the lottery before I pay up for GF or BWI.)

But one day, I'll do the sunrise safari at AKL.

funny.. I am the OP and now I'm thinking that we are a "value" family....

We will be getting the FL RES seasonal passes (like last year) for Thanksgiving. We will spend 4 nights at the WL (woods view),which I already have booked. Since DH gets NO (paid) vacation days and I am starting grad school this fall, we decided to take a few weekend trips with our passes- 2 nights in early FEB, Memorial Day Weekend, Labor Day weekend and Thanksgiving again to use the last days of our passes.

We are planning to stay at Pop Century for FEB
and have plans to book value resorts for our two holiday weekend trips and a mod (POR if open) for Thanksgiving. Now, if things go better than planned, we'll upgrade. For now, we will play it very conservatively. I want to come out ahead (with our vacation fund). We do spend too much on food and other things. We never budget for those and just buy whatever we want. I think we will be bringing breakfast and budget for a character meal or two.
