WDWWDS - Quench your thirst

Ahh...NO! Star Wars, Indiana Jones and all good movies like that never get picked for Best Picture. Our only hope was Lord of the Rings and even that didn't win.

But Sally Fields did win Best Supporting Actress for her role in Return of the Jedi as an ewok.

Now - see...I was on a site earlier that claimed it did. Hummm...should I wait to hear from KP first or take your 'half point' word for it OT?

Ok then - did it get nominated that year? Geez...that means my source was wrong...Gone With the Wind DID win in 1939 though-right?

M - I don't know who those people on this 'other thread' are, but they know NOTHING. Here is a link to the official Oscars page:

http://www.oscar.com/legacy/pastwin/picture0.html

I assure you that you will not find Any Star Wars movie in the catagory of Best Picture. It have received several awards for technical achievements, sounds, and effects - but never Best Picture.

This is one of those few times OT was NOT making up the answer.;)

M - Yes, GWTW did win in '39. And in 1977 (the year the first SW movie cam out) Annie Hall was the winner. (1980: Ordinary People; 1983: Terms of Enderment; 1998: Shakeaspeare in Love; 2001: A Beautiful Mind)

No, I didn't know all that - that's why I found that web site.

...thanks Steve - oh, I need your help about something you offered your assistance on before...ahhh...we'll talk later...:smooth:

KP - girl - you rock!! Hummm...do you wanna do this advertisement for me instead?!?:teeth:

GWTW - 1939 was a great year for films - Stagecoach, Mr. Smith Goes to Washington and The Wizard of Oz to name a few. As Frank Capra said in his autobiography, "never make your best film the same year they make Gone With The Wind".

OK..is it safe to come out now????

Anyway...not much tosay today...just want to ask...Madonna...what kind of ad are you doing...it sounds cool....:)

Higgs trust me - it's not. Just an ad about our 75 years of success. So I'm using pop culture things/events that we have witnessed to represent how long 75 years is. Such as Mickey Mouse, Star Wars, Gone with the Wind, Elvis, Beatles the NY Yankees etc.

psst...am I typing to loud for you or is the hangover gone? :p

In your own words:

"Lordy, Lordy, Lordy!"

You will be missed. Thank you for the years of slap stick comedy you brought into our homes.

yes you.

I turned on the TV this morning as I was getting ready, and this was the first bit of information I got. It wasn't the best way to start my morning. :( I loved Three's Company and I LOVE 8 Simple Rules. I couldn't wait for the new season to start. He was such a funny man. He was at MGM last week for a promotional event, I wish I could have seen him. :(

Yes you will be missed.

John was one of those comedians who could make you forget about the entire BS in the world. You will be missed John.

On a brighter note. AP, if memory serves me correct tonight you will be with your buddy Steven! Enjoy yourself my friend, (something tells me that you will). JW, stick close by to your sweetie, tonight you will be her ‘Rag Doll’;)

Boss - your memory serves you correct. I have the tickets in hand (in fact FedEx JUST dropped them off, but that's a different story) and I am ready to go! I won't be in the front row this time, but at least I'll be there - and I will have one hell of a man right beside me.;)
Wish I could take pics this time, but I can't. You can bet I'll commit it all to memory.

M- thanks for posting that picture. I was in disbelief when I heard that this morning.

John was such a funny guy and always made us smile. He had such a zest for life too!!

So sad to hear of his passing.:(

Why not bring one of those disposable cameras with you to the show? Think about, what is the worst that can happen, they take it away. I brought one with me to the Springsteen show the other night, hid it in my wife’s secret purse compartment (all purses seem to have these) and I whipped it out when Bruce hit the stage. I realize that you can not zoom in or anything but hey what the heck at least you’ll have some shots. If you’re not bringing a purse with you then stuff the camera down JW’s pants;)

Have fun, let me know how it goes!

Oh, please make sure that if you think of pleasing yourself while ST in whispering those 'Sweet Emotions' to you - please make sure you take pics for me;) Bring the camera!

I realize that you can not zoom in or anything but hey what the heck at least you’ll have some shots.
 Just how small IS it? :teeth:
