WDWTrekker 11/17/01 Day 1
Hi, today was the first day of out long awaited Trek to Walt Disney World. Let me start with a few introductions. The troop consists of DW Cindy (aka: Mrs. Trekker), DS 14 YO Josh (aka: JPTreks), DD 11YO Katie (aka: Little Trekker (fondly known as Blondie)) & me (aka: WDWTrekker).
The day started out with me being just a little frazzled. The entire week leading up to our Trek had been one frustration after another, but that is over and I do not want to dwell on it.
We arrived at the airport in Milwaukee at 1:00 PM for our 2:55 PM flight. Plenty of time and everything went smooth as can be. No lines to check our baggage. No lines at security, but we did call JPTreks random for the next few hours, he was selected and taken aside for the extra wand check at security LOL. With about 1 ½ hours to go at the airport, we found on of those areas were they have little work areas for business travelers. Little Trekker proceeded to do home work and Mrs. Trekker settled in with a good book. JP and I set up the laptop with headphones and a Star Trek movie on DVD.
Our flight took off right on time and JP and I settled in to finish the Star Trek movie. The food on the plane was not up to the normal standard for Midwest Express. After talking to one of the flight attendants I can see why, all food for their flights must be loaded when the leave Milwaukee so if they have 3 4 legs they have to haul all food and drinks from the get-go. So considering this it wasnt bad.
Our flight arrived 5 minutes early in Orlando at 6:25 PM. Baggage was off and retrieved by about 7:00 PM and we headed out to the National Car EA area. There were very few cars available in the Emerald Aisle, but, there was a very nice woman running around the parking garage asking people what type car they wanted. We got a Chevy Blazer for the price of an intermediate (not bad).
We headed directly to MK for our first night of fun. Went to Guest Services and purchased our PAPs, Walked down Main Street going against the flow as the fireworks had just ended. Stopped by Caseys Corner for Hot Dogs, Fries and cokes (Blondie said she was not hungry) - then went and found a spot to watch Spectromagic. Of course there was an ice cream cart nearby (Blondie is the one who found it LOL) and we had to have the 100 year bars (if you remember the goofy bars with the caramel in them, you know what the 100 year bars are).
Spectromagic was so very cool, what a way to start a vacation. Headed over to the Dolphin and checked in, this took all of about 8 minutes and we were in our connecting rooms, standing on the balcony over looking the water (beautiful!). It was time for shut eye and dreams of Cinderellas Royal Table for breakfast on Sunday.
See you on day 2!
