WDW's little inconviences?

I think that they are a bit pricey. I'd love to stay at the Grand Floridian, but at over $300 a night, that's INSANE! The prices are high. That's the only complaint I have.

I thought so too until I started pricing nice resorts for a weekend trip to the White Mountains NH during foliage season... :scared: :faint:

I know that it is a monoply and that means we will be taken advantage of one way or another but why does EVERYTHING at WDW cost so much? There is nothing that is really reasonable.

I don't think there is a lot at WDW that is unreasonable. Maybe sodas in the parks. But I don't think the hotel prices are that far off from similiar level hotels in other vacation locations (see my prior post about pricing out nice hotels in the mountains). And there are certainly ways to bring the cost down. We have APs and last few times we went we paid:
Pop in Dec - $49/night
AKL in May - $139 / night
Pop in August - $77/night

I'd hardly call that unreasonable. The place I wanted to stay in NH for my upcoming trip there started at $250/night for a standard room! :earseek: (needless to say, I am staying elsewhere  )

I also think a lot of people over react to food costs. I don't think anything at WDW costs much more than similiar level restaurants elsewhere. I've eaten at restaurants locally on par with say, Jiko, and the food costs the same (and was not as good!) So a lot of people will say "yeah, but you don't have to eat every meal out when you are at home". Well, no, but you don't have to eat every meal as a sit down in WDW either. We do one sit down a day and one or two NICE (ie. Jiko) sit downs a week at WDW. The rest we do counter service.

I don't think the tickets are overpriced either. One day admission to one park is around one day admission to most theme parks. And most people get multi day hoppers. I don't think that is unreasonable. Esp. since for most people, it's getting you access to four parks, use of transportation, and for AP holders, a slew of other benefits.

I also think the front of the line thing at Universal is kind of bizarre. So if everyone who stayed at any WDW hotel had a FOTL pass, um, would the vast majority of people be standing at the front of the line for popular rides, still causing long waits? I like the FP system. I think it works much easier and it's fair to everyone. I've never felt like I had to wait in line for any inordinate amount of time and aside from people who only go during peak, peak times, I'm slightly befuddled by people who complain about wait times. I've never had a wait for anything longer than 15 minutes since they started FP and most of the time it's actually a lot shorter than that. Honestly, being with your fellow human beings is part of the them park experience and people who feel the need to rush, rush, rush and be first in line for every little thing, I just don't get that. :confused3

Nonrefundable deposits for AP holders...I don't blame Disney for that. I blame the idiots who'd book a bunch of rooms and then cancel all but one when they were able to secure the AP rate for one of them.

My annoyance is DISers whining about everything at WDW.

Here's an idea - don't go and free up the World for the rest of us ! I hear Six Flags is nice.... :earboy2:

My inconvenience is that thanks to the security check-points there is no bathroom outside of the Magic Kingdom. I became violently ill in MK on our last trip (heatstroke I think) and wanted to go back to the hotel. It looked like we had just missed the bus, and we waited 20 minutes for the next one to arrive. I was soo afraid I would toss my cookies or worse while I waited. Why is there no restroom available? :confused3

I'm sorry you got sick, but could you not have given your bags to a family member and gone through the no bags line (which never had anyone in it) and headed to the restroom near the ticket window? Or found a CM who could have escorted you to the medical/first aid area?

DUH!!!!!!

But---I have been to the MK before park opening, before they were even letting people thru the security checkpoint. They told us security was running late. And that was a group of 8 people, 3 who were children. And you know kids have to go at the worst possible times. Epcot has a bathroom before the checkpoint. So does the Disney Studios. Why no the park that most hotels are farthest away from?

Just 1 reason I love the Contemporary! Walking distance to MK!!! :lovestruc

I love everything about WDW except they don't carry Pepsi products. But even that is not a big deal as we always make a grocery store run and have a nice big refrigerator at the BWV to store it in.

I despise now having to use your fingers for identification with your pass. Throughout our last trip with our family all four of us used each others passes and never did we not get acces into the park.

Think that whole thing is baloney about the security. Have no real reason why it was implemented other than to slow down the people getting into the parks.

Total waste of money which of course gets passed on to us as usual "the consumer"

We have had AP's and for many years we have had to use the finger ID. It's not that bad once you know how to do it. It has been a long time since we had trouble getting into a park. :confused3

My only two gripes are pretty darn minor, and beverage related. I'd love to be able to get a cold Mt. Dew on property. You have no idea how much I missed my green fizzy fix last week.

My second gripe, again, minor. I really wish that they'd put more of the water fountains in the shade so the water isn't boiling hot when you try to drink it- it's not a good incentive to drink enough water, and if you don't bring your own or buy, it can cause you problems. In serious heat, you can get pretty sick by not staying hydrated, and realistically, if you drink as much fluids as you *should* in hot weather, it adds up quickly, especially when you need to add poweraid to the mix if you're feeling dehydrated. I think DH and I spent at least $10 a day on water/poweraid and that was not counting our snack credits.

Yes, I know you can get a free cup of ice water if you ask for it, but you're more likely to drink enough water if you have a bottle with you, and it's easier to manage on rides. Best buy was the insulated bottle carrier we got in AK for $10. A bit pricey, but it kept our water bottles cool and tasty for a good long time- the water was still pleasant by the time we finished each bottle.

That's just a pet peeve though, I used to work crew for the AIDS Rides and I've seen how sick people get from getting dehydrated from heat and exertion, so I'm really insistent about making sure we drink enough water/sports drinks to stay healthy while we're out and about, even if it does get expensive.

I love the Fastpass system, but I do wish tehre was some way to get FPs without running all over the park

love this thread going to watch it close!! :sunny:

1. The heat of summer - Although I live in La. & we have the same weather as Orlando, I generally don't spend time outside during the summer. We basically sit in AC from April to October. Since I'm a teacher I can't go to WDW except during summer, Thanksgiving, Christmas or Easter (all of the busiest times).

2. I wish there were centralized locations for fastpass machines. It would cut down on a lot of walking.

close, as in, closely!! sorry for the confusion!!

I understand the need for security, but it's too bad that they have all those barriers in place at MK when trying to get in. I guess they're trying to funnel people in through a central location, but it gets crowded and overwhelming - and it looks depressing. Why can't they hire more security and make more entrance points? Or just put the check points closer to the turnstiles and match them up, like at Epcot?

I like the FP system, but it could use a revamp. The FP tickets don't expire so people get one early and then use it later in the day. That's great if you're going to be there all day. Some people visit the parks in the morning before they have to leave, and they can't get a FP that's good before they have to leave. Their use should be tracked to see how many are given ouit, how many come back, and for what times. Or, make it so you can chose your return time! Like picking a movie time - get your FP at 11 am for a 6 pm return time, leaving earlier ones for others.

It's inconvenient that there are other people there while we're there. The nerve of some people to be visiting while I'm trying to enjoy the parks! :rolleyes1

Just a joke, of course.

Joanne

They should allow just enough people to make it fun but not enough to make you wait in lines.
