An Evening at Downtown Disney
After our day at Sea World, we went back to AKL for a bit. It was pretty humid that day so Dad and I decided to go swimming again. Claire decided she'd rather watch the Brewers get pounded by the Red Sox.
I really love the pool at the hotel. It's so big and I love the theming of it. Plus it's so close to one of the animal viewing spots.
Since we weren't going to waste a day on our tickets and we obviously weren't going to sit around for the rest of the night, we went to Downtown Disney for dinner and one of my favorite things, SHOPPING!!! Rather than waiting for a bus we took the car over. Of course it was packed as usual and it was hard finding a place to park. I really wanted to eat at the Rainforest Cafe since we've never been there, but seeing as it was a Saturday night and it was getting close to 6:00, we figured it was going to be a long wait. There was a line of people waiting to find out what time they could get a reservation. I took this picture in line:
When we got to the front of the line, we were told it was going to be an hour and a half wait before we could get in. We decided we'd wait so we got a reservation for 7:30. That was fine with me because I wasn't really hungry right away. Once we had our time it was time to shop!
I don't know about you, but whenever I go to WDW I buy stuff like crazy. It's sort of a sickness. Our first stop was the World of Disney, one of my favorite stores in WDW. So much to choose from! It's a miracle I didn't buy the whole store. We saw some small replica ride posters...I love these!
We browsed for a while and I ended up getting a couple small things...a Magic Kingdom souvenir book (I'll probably use that in my classroom library), a cute shot glass (or should I say toothpick holder?! I have a small collection of them), and some pink fuzzy dice for my car.
Our next stop was Disney's Pin Traders. I love collecting pins so I picked out a couple to add to my collection. I'm starting to get ones of the resorts we've stayed at so I got a Polynesian pin with Mickey and Minnie on it and a retro Epcot pin with Donald on it.
We also stopped in the Team Mickey Store and Once Upon a Toy before heading back over toward the Rainforest Cafe.
We were a little early so we waited for them to call our name. I took the opportunity to take a few more pictures:
Claire and me waiting:
When they called our name we were taken to a table in the back of the restaurant. I had no idea how big that place was! But I absolutely loved the theming even if it is sort of tacky.
The girl who took us to our table told us about the "thunderstorms" they do every half hour and told us make sure Dad would be OK. hehe We got our drinks and then ordered: I decided on the Flying Dragon Pepperoni Pizza, Claire chose the Rainforest Burger, and Dad got a steak. The pizza was pretty big...I had seen a couple people with it walking in and wanted to split it but figured I'd be able to take what I didn't eat back to the hotel. I guess I was really hungry because I ended up eating about half of it.
It was very tasty. We were all pretty full so we skipped dessert...even though those big Volcano things looked really good! Maybe next time. Overall it was a great experience and we'll definitely plan on eating there again on future trips.
