I am considering planning a trip to WDW with my 5 kids (ages 6-14) and my parents (66 and 63). :grouphug: My dad is currently undergoing chemotherapy and Mom has arthritis in her knee. Am I crazy for thinking this is possible? I am hoping to take advantage of the free dining package in August. With Dad's cancer, this may be my last opportunity to take them to WDW (they've never been there).

Thanks for your thoughts.

Welcome to disABILTIES!

First of all, ff you click on where it says "disABILTIES" at the top of this page it will take you to the Index. The third item down is the "disABILTIES FAQ" which will gives lots of useful information.

I would think it is very important that you stay at a Disney Resort. Not the least reason is both parents will probably need ECVs, and you are much better off renting them from off-site and using Disney's transportation.

It might help us in providing suggestions if you were to be a little more specific about the age and sex of each kid, and, more important, who else is coming along.

Also, with eight or more people you qualify to be a "Grand Gathering" and can get special events and assistance with planning and reservations from Disney.

Besides what Cheshire Figment mentioned,
I'd also suggest checking with the cancer doctor. There might be certain times that are better in relation to the chemo (tiredness, low resistance to infection).

You are not crazy! It can be done and a great time will be had by all. There is a lot of information out there, to make your trip easier for both of your parents.

I would agree to check with your dad's oncologist....you'll want to choose the best time to go, you don't want him getting overheated during the summer. I think it's great that you are taking them...I think that they will love it..spending time with you and their grandchildren.

I have four boys ages 6, 8, 10, and 12 and a daughter, age 14. I'm really not too worried about the kids. I know they'll be cooperative. Disney is one place I feel I can take the kids without my husband. If I stay onsite, once I get to the airport, I don't have to drive anywhere! Mom does okay with walking if she can have a sit once in a while. I guess my main concern is Dad. Checking with his oncologist is a good idea.
