WDW with a 6 month old on formula

Depending on the brand of formula you use, you can also buy those nifty single serve packets of formula. They are long and skinny and SOOOO easy to pack in the diaper bag. I mainly b/f, but for the times when I needed to fall back on formula I loved the single serve packets even better than the formula dispenser. Costs a bit more, but good if you only use them occaisionally.

If your baby doesn't finish a bottle and you want to keep it fresh a bit longer, you can always add a few ice cubes.

I also did the 3 sectioned container and brought along bottled water. We got DS used to room temperature everything from day 1 (formula, food, baby wipes, etc). Travelling with him was a breeze.

I always had a few of those premeasured packets on me as well (and had some with the sitter). Once I forgot bottles for DS at the sitter, once she accidentally spilled one and once we were shopping and the powder container fell on the floor and popped open. I liked to have those on hand just in case.

When we went while my DS was still on formula, I would buy the travel packs of formula. They are very small and compact. The downside is they only come in 4oz packs I believe. They are a little more pricey, but it is just for a week and just while you are at the parks. One trip I even brought little formula divider containers. I had like 3 of them. I would fill them in the morning even though I knew DS wouldn't use all of it. At least I had it. Then I would put them in the diaper bag with a few bottles of water. If I ran out of water, I could always buy more.

Also, I think the Baby Center at DHS is the only one without water. The rest of the Baby Care Centers have bottled water with hot and cold water that you can mix to get the right temperature. If you're ever in a pinch though, they do have water at the First Aid stations that you can fill your bottle with. The Baby Centers seriously are life savers. We made it through 3 bottle fed children!

This is what I used for DD. Loved it! I never premixed my bottles once I discovered this! She took her bottles at room temp. For DD's 2am feeding, I would go to her room and pour, shake and feed. I barely had to wake up!

I did the same thing for the feedings overnight. I never even had to go downstairs....just pour, shake, feed! So easy!!!!

I did that with my first daughter and then realized that I was making too concentrated of formula. If you read the directions on the can, it indicates to add the formula to 4, 6, 8 ounces of water.

It's true. If you look at how much mixed formula you have after you add the powder to the water, you'll see that there's actually a bit more. The 4 oz of water plus 2 scoops of powder was closer to 5 oz of formula in the bottle.

I always added powder to water.

I agree to take one of those containers the PP posted. I had one by Avent and it worked perfectly! Also some formula companies make individual servings of formula, I know similac does. They are called singles. I have seen them in all the stores with the regular cans of formula.

Honestly I just carried a small amount of the formular in a plastic container with an extra scoop and my water in the bottles and made as needed. At home I made each bottle as I went from the large container. Once DS was allowed tap water (he was premature), I used warm water. DGS got warm tap from the start.

I think you can be safe putting the powder in the bottle if you compensate for the extra liquid, and I did a few time after figuring out how much, but it does not mix as well.

Bottle water is great for travel as some bottles do tend to leak. In the warm flordia sun, the water will be sorta warm if you carry the bottle with you during the day.

I did the 3-part separated conatiners filled with 'a serving' each of formula. Then filled a couple bottles with bottled water to the proper # of ounces and just threw them in the diaper bag.

But then I did this all the time so my kids were used to it. They were used to room temp. formula - so I recommend getting your child used to it before you go - finding warming places will be a huge pain and the kids don't really need it warmed.

It is SO EASY this way - just flip the separated container over the top of the pre-filled water in the bottle - shake up and it was ready in about 10 seconds!

I also used one of those 3 sectioned containers for the powdered formula when my boys were babies. After you're done using it for formula, it makes a great snack container! I used it last year at Disney (youngest was 2 1/2 so was able to shake out the snacks himself) and had goldfish crackers, dry cereal and those gerber graduate puffs in the sections.

The first time we took DS he was 5months old. We had two of the Avent Formula storage containers and we would measure out what would go in each bottle and mix it with water when we were ready to eat. Only thing is at home I would use tap water, but the water in WDW specially in fountains tastes wierd. So we used a lot of bottled water for him unless we were in a Disney resturant and most CM's were great about getting us water without ice in it.
They also would take his sippy cup and fill it up with water too for when we were out and about in the parks.

Earplugs are a must have for someone that small. DS wore them in loud rides and when there were explosions ( Stunt show at Hollywood studios and Wishes, etc)
Also, If you are flying, we took the formula can's out of the can's for room. Put it in big ziploc's for extra room in our luggage. Those can's can be hudge.
We found that DS would fall asleep easily with all the fresh air, also the coblestone area's around the parks, he would fall asleep from the vibrations.

just bumping but any suggestions on a baby who only drinks the concentrated milk you mix with water, those can only be out of the fridge for 2 hrs:confused3

My family and I went in July with a baby and I had the bottles with the formula already measured in them. We kept the bottles of water in the bottom part of the stroller. When she was hungry it was easy to grab a bottle bottle and fill the bottle and she did fine. We had no trouble bringing the bottles already made up in. We went for 7 days and no problems.
Good luck!! :goodvibes

I used bottles with the marks on the side and put the formula directly in the bottle before I left the house. If you look at where the formula is on the mark and then add +8 or +6 or +4 or whatever the directions say, it works just fine and isn't too concentrated.

Example: put the formula in the bottle. It goes up to the 1 oz line. For that amount of formula, you need 8 oz of water. You add water to the 9 oz. line and shake.

Math... it's a wonderful thing. :lmao:

Math is a wonderful thing, but only if you're adding apples to apples.

It's not exactly the same. You are adding liquid to powder. It's not truly one oz of powder- once the water touches the formula, it starts to dissolve and your measurement is off. Dry good measure differently liquids-- that's why there are dry and wet measuring cups.

We conducted many measurements to try to figure out how to easily and efficiently mix up formula- having twins meant we went through formula twice as fast. We did have a set of bottles that we marked with permanent marker. We added formula first, then a measured amt of water, then marked a line on the bottle where it filled. We went out with those bottles pre-filled with formula and then added water to the fill line at feeding time.

I'm sure it's fine for a week to have a bit of extra water or a bit of extra formula (depending on how you mix it up). However, as daily practice, the can instructions should be followed- and it says add powder TO liquid.
