Dh and I currently have our trip booked for Oct 2009. I have just recently now found out that I'm pregnant and am due in August. This would put the new baby at about 2 months at the time of our already scheduled trip. We've got no kids and really no experience with kids at this age yet.

Are we setting ourselves up for a really lousy trip? I would be so sad to have to cancel but at the same time, I don't want to be spending all sorts of time and money if it's really going to be no fun to have a small baby there. I would love some advice from those who have been there and done that before!! :D

First of all, CONGRATULATIONS!!

I'm expecting our second baby in March.

We took our DS when he was 5 months old and it was easiest trip with him and he's 4 now. Mainly because he didn't do much at that age. Now he talks constantly and has his own opinions....the nerve!

If you plan to nurse, I found that really easy, because I didn't have to worry about making bottles, keeping them at the right temp in the parks, then warming them when it came time to use them. If you plan to bottle feed, I would find that to be a bit of a hassle on vacation.

If you do decide to go, make sure you bring a good infant carrier for when you're in lines and on rides. It'll just free up your hands.

I guess it's hard to really say if you should or shouldn't go. You may have a really good baby who travels easily, you may not. We're considering going in May 09 when our baby will only be 2 months, but I think I'm going to play it by ear to see what kind of baby I have first and then maybe book a little more last minute than I normally would.

First of all, Congratulations!

Second, no way I would take one that small on this type of vacation. How much fun are you going to have if you are strollering around such a wee one? I wouldn't fly with one so young, if that is even a consideration. But as Disney is such an expense for us, we have waited until our kids are able to get on all rides. I took a 2 yo to Disney Land and it wasn't all that fun for me. And he can't even remember what we did. And he's now 7.

But you have to do what is right for your family and if you think that it will fun, just do it.

Good luck! Jenny :goodvibes

Congrats to you.

And let me assure you, that many people travel with babies that age. In fact, I saw so many on our vacation last week it was amazing.

It will be easier to travel with a 2 month old because they're so small and you can either put them in their stroller or use a baby carrier if you'd prefer to be hands free. Just take into consideration that there are about 15 rides total between all 4 parks that you will not be able to ride with your new one. Everything else though, you can take them on, and I encourage you to do so...it gets you off your feet for a bit.

Just make sure you take plenty of diapers, formula (if you won't be breastfeeding), diaper wipes, and pacifiers (if your baby will be taking one).

Here's to a happy and healthy 9 months, and an enjoyable trip. :D

We have taken our 4 kids at all ages, including our last at 3 1/2 mos this past Jan. We are heading back in March and she will be 17 mos. Lets just say that at 3 1/2 mos. she was MUCH easier. I didnt have a problem taking an infant. No way would I have left her at home and we were planning this family vacation for a long time. She slept wherever we were. I was nursing so that was easy. We just strolled her or had her in the baby sling. Trust me, you will be pushing a strollered baby for YEARS to come- especially if you want more than one child- so that shouldnt be a factor as TheLuckiest suggested.
We loved having our kids at Disney as babies and have GREAT pictures as memories for each one.

I've never taken one that small, nor would I. I've taken my 3 at 7 months, 5 months and 5 months. The middle one was hardest because he wasn't sitting up yet. My 3rd was sitting at 5 months. IMO that makes all the difference. It is so much easier if they can sit in your lap and you support them a bit vs having to hold them tight on the rides.

At 2 months it would be hard getting in out of the rides etc. Unless you have them in a Bjorn or Sling type carrier. I was never able to use those because of a back problem. Nor did I like using them when I tried. Once that baby is out I don't want it strapped to me ever again!

Another thing to consider is that baby could be 2 weeks late and then you are talking only a 6 wk old. If you have a difficult labor or a c-section you would still be recovering. I know with my first I still didn't want to do anything at 2 months! I didn't have a c-section but I had a difficult delivery and it was still sore to do too much. If you are nursing you may not be comfortable with it yet. My first 2 I didn't have any problem but my 3rd ate every 45 minutes for the first 3 months, then every 1.5 hours for the next 2. Plus he wasn't gaining weight so I had to pump after every feeding for the first 2 months. Let's just say I didn't leave the house much!

If it were me, I would move my trip out to December or January at the earliest. Preferably March/April.

I would not take a 2 month old. You have no idea if the baby will come on time, how you will feel, etc. But my main reason would be germs. I would not want a 6-8 week old baby flying and in a theme park. It is easy to travel with small children but in my opinion 2 months is way too young for that much exposure.

Congrats!!!!!! :cutie:

Congrats!!!
I am due Aug 12 2009 with my 3rd baby. We have a vacation booked for Sept 27th. I don't know what to do either. I don't think a baby would ruin my trip but I also don't know if I should take a baby so young to the parks. Because of germs and stuff. But if we stay home we will be going to the mall ,out to eat, to my sons hockey games, ect. To say the least the baby will still be out with lots of germs floating around. But it is a big decision. My DH says to wait till Nov. I havent canceled our trip yet. Good luck and let me know what you decide.

Our youngest (#4) will be 7 weeks when we go in February. That will be the youngest we've taken to WDW. But, our son was right at 3 months for a trip to Busch Gardens in Williamsburg. He was no trouble at all. I nursed him when he was hungry and he slept in the stroller when he was tired. I don't anticipate any problems taking our newest at such a young age. I am less concerned about germs at 7 weeks than I would be at 7 months when babies are putting everything they can find in their mouths and crawling around on hotel room floors.

Our 2nd DS was 5 weeks on his first trip. The trip was a present for 4 yo DS to help adjust to the new baby. We lived in FL at the time and could drive down. he was so much easier at 5 weeks then 2yo. He stayed in a sling the whole time. We didn't even bring a stroller for the baby.

For the most part it was easy to find places to nurse. However, with it being my second I was much more comfortable nursing him than I was the first go round.

Our biggest problem was sun coverage vs getting too hot since you can't put sunscreen on a baby that young. I found a company called sun veil that had breathable infant covers.

IMO it is doable but not the most enjoyable trip for 2 adults.

Congratulations and good luck with your decision.

I personally would not be comfortable bringing a 2 mo. old to Disney World for some of the reasons listed above. When my son was born, my pediatrician recommended that he not be overly exposed to public places such as malls, restaurants, etc. until he was 3 mo. old and had a more developed immune system. With the number of people at Disney, I would be very concerned about germs.

Secondly, sunscreen is generally not recommended for infants under 6 mo. so it may be difficult to adequately protect your baby from the strong Florida sun.

Lastly, we visited in October of this year and it was VERY hot. Dehydration of a baby so young would be a concern for me.

Congratulations!

Congrats!!! A new baby is so exciting!!!! I took my DD at the age of 4 months and it was an AWESOME vacation for us. She went on almost all the rides with us and we had a blast. BUT........ we also had other family with us. That helped to make us a little more comfortable and gave us some mini breaks when needed :) I was just weaning her of the breast so I was down to morning and night feedings. If you are breast feeding it will be VERY time consuming and not all that fun for you. Now DD is on the sippy cup at 17 months and will be much easier. When I switched to bottles and we brought them to the parks it was formula and I kept bottles filled with water and the powder formula separate in a special container. That way the bottles never went bad and I never warmed DD bottles even when she was switched to milk so that was easy when we traveled. IMHO I would be more worried about you not being fully recovered and adjusted to being out in public with your baby. I hated taking DD out in public for the first month or two because their immune system isn't like ours and I wanted her to be eased into the germs :) Plus I wanted some vaccinations in her before I put her on a plane with all that recycled air. Once your baby is born you will be able to judge better on how you feel and what you are comfortable with. Everyone is different and the best advice I can give is to WAIT on your decision if possible or push your trip a couple months just to be safe :O) hope this helps and GOOD LUCK!!!

Sorry but I had to respond to this. Nothing personal but what I bolded is a matter of opinion. Breastfeeding was very easy for me. In fact I felt it was easier because I didn't have to worry about taking bottles etc. It was not time consuming and I still had a ball. We started taking each of the kids at 6 months old. So I bf a lot in WDW. I'm not debating which is better etc., I just wanted to point out that not everyone thinks bf is time consuming and if you do you won't have fun. I still stand by my opinion though that 2 months is way too young to be around that many people. WDW will always be there. I would postphone the trip for a few months. JMHO.

I totally agree. I exclusively BF all 3 of my kids for a year and we did cruises, florida, and other vacations, and I always thought how lucky I was to not have to lug around bottles and formula. But I always waiting until they were at least 4 months old and by them they were champs and get things done in 2 minutes!

OP- Could you postpone for another couple of months? I believe many of the posts about taking little ones above were with the second, third or fourth. Things can be a little overwhelming with your first baby at the begining- not for everyone, but for some. You will be 6 to 8 weeks postpartum and sleep deprived! If you give yourself a little bit more time you may physically feel so much better and the baby will be a little older too. Congrats and good luck!

You are going to get a range of opinions on this. My opinion is that we really can't answer this for you because there is no way of knowing what your baby will be like at 2 months old.
DS13 (my step-son) was a projectile vomiter at that age and was on special formula etc... No way would he have been good at Disney at that age.

DS9 Easy baby. In fact, I took a trip to Southwest Florida when he was 2 months old to visit family. It was an easy trip. I was nursing him FWIW and he would have been a breeze at Disney.

DD5 NOT an easy infant! She had colic among other concerns and screamed for the greater part of her 1st 4 months of life.:scared1: I don't think I would have been very popular at Disney with her screaming. LOL

So, IMHO, you may be better off waiting a bit. I pray that your little one is as easy as DS9 was, but you just don't know.

By the way, CONGRATULATIONS!

And, FWIW, DS13 was bottle fed because of health issues, the other 2 were breastfed. I think it is much easier to travel with a breastfed infant. :thumbsup2

I had one of these also...thank goodness he was not my first, or he would have been my last! We didn't leave the house for several months! He literally screamed for about 6 months straight - REALLY good birth control!

I would recommend postponing, simply because you don't know what to expect. My oldest would have been an angel, but you really have no idea. Plus, most first babies are late (statistically), so don't count on having a 2 month old!!

LOL We said the same thing about DD, if she was 1st, she would have been an only child. You will notice that she is the youngest. :rolleyes1

I agree that everyones experience breastfeeding is different, but......... breast feeding a 6 month old verses a 2 month old to a new mom is a HUGE difference I don't care who you are!!!! And if she delivers late than it will be even less time to get used to all the new mommy things. I mean come on now...... It's only some advice and kind words not nit picking, I mean are we nit picking here????

I wasn't being rude, just stating my experience. I don't get the hostility.:confused3
