Day 7 continued & Final Day

Well DH goes to check on his mom in her room to make sure she's settled in, and to see if she needs anything for the night. He returns-- with the BAG.

I'm kind of glad she didn't personally give it to me. I think I would of made a face. It would of been because I think she's trying to "buy me off". I mean come on--- we have no lost love her. You don't acknowledge my birthday. For Christmas I'm sure to get a dollar store gift if any-- so what's up here. We've been at each other's throats all week.

So, I open the bag (which is huge I might add). I was shocked. There was a collage style frame I had been looking at all week. It hold something like 8-10 different pictures and has a Disney/Mickey theme to it. I kept looking at it, but didn't get it. I did want it, but I spent enough souviner money on DS and my neice back home. Well she got it for me.

I guess the story went. DH and her were shopping. He was looking at the frame and made a comment to her that he knew I was looking at it all week. He made some passing at the thought of getting it for me, but decided against it. He didn't get it because he figured there was some reason I didn't get it. So, in the end she decided to get it. According to him (I never heard her speak the words)-- she wanted to "thank me for taking her to Disney". I don't know-- doesn't sound like her. I'm not gonna doubt it was her who bought the frame, but it was really out of character for her.

You see at the parade she told DS she bought him a gift for the plane, and he'd get it then. DS kept wondering what it could be. DH confided in me it was a handheld, electronic trivia game. We get on both flights home, and no gift. DS nor I mentioned it because that would be rude. Anyhow, she later told DH she really wanted to keep the gift. Well, you don't tell the kid the day before that you got him something. Why would you do that???

I can't put the frame down-- I did want it. So whatever the intention's were- it was the nicest gesture she had made all week. Now, could I just have the several hundred in meal money ???

We wake up the next morning to downpouring rain. I begin to pack w/ mixed feelings. I don't want to go home. I just want MIL to go home. I want to re-do my trip right now. I can't fit everything into our luggage-- man did I buy a lot. So DH runs out real quick to Bargain World and picks up a duffel bag. We fit everything and head to MCO alittle early.

Traffic is a litle backed up, but we still arrive with 90 minutes left to our flight. We were still at this point unaware of the snowstorm hitting the Northeast. We return our rental van, no problem.

A skycap asks if we need help. I tell him no-- MIL says Yes. No nice Mr. Skycap-- Run, Run while you can!!! I quietly tell her, she'll need to tip him, and Well. She is the type that will tip $1.00 no matter what. Her and her BF w/ his kids just eat a $100.00 meal-- here's a buck. No lie!! We all have luggage on wheels, that you just pull. She won't pull her's anyhow, DH will. So why did you do this to that poor man. From the Alamo return lot to the luggage check in area she took 3 breaks. She couldn't make it and was complaining she needed a wheelchair. The skycap was getting alittle aggrivated. He asked me what her problem was. I told him "mother-in-laws" he just smirked. DH ends up tipping him $20 since it took a 1/2 hr. It should of only taken 5-7 minutes. Why did we tip him, I don't know. We didn't want him.

We check our luggage go to security. The ticketing agent never printed DS's boarding pass so it's back downstairs we go. Only thing is MIL went through security and her we had her boarding pass. Don't know how she did it.

We get the pass make it through security and go eat at McDonald's. I buy 2 magazines at the gift shop for $15- and we settle in to wait to board. I also bought DS a water yo-yo, this comes into play alittle later. Oh yeah, I should mention the entire time DS keeps asking me where his gift is, and MIL is sleeping on a table. She is too tired that walking did her in. It should of dawned on her that she has a problem by now.

We board almost 1/2 hr late. It was on the plane (Jet Blue) that I tuned into the weather channel. I couldn't believe we were flying right into a storm at JFK and then even worse into Buffalo. I just kept hoping they wouldn't delay, or even worse cancel our flights. We get to JFK. Right away I go check the departures board. We are supposed to have a 2 hr lay over. Sure enough-- the flight is delayed by 2 additional hrs. Ugh!! DH and MIL are gonna go outside and smoke. DS and I are gonna find lunch/dinner. I decide to call my mom-- to see just how bad is the weather back home. There are 100's of people milling about the airport. I'm trying to watch my luggage-- and DS who wants to explore at the same time as I'm talking to my mom. Next thing I know I see DS w/ his water yo-yo. He popped a hle into it. He is discreetly shooting the liquid into crowds. OKAY---I've gotta go now!! The sight in itself was straight out of a movie. I take the once yo-yo , now water pistol away. I can't believe he was doing that. We eat, and I set DS up w/ the camcorder. He wants to watch the footage we took. At least it kept him busy while we waited.

Jetblue was really great during the delay. They kept us updated every 15-20 minutes. They served complimentary drinks and snacks to the delayed passengers. They kept apologizing. Well, the snow wasn't really their fault.

We finally get to board the plane, it's now 2.75 hrs past the intial boarding time. MIL has taken a nap in JFK. She plopped herself into a chair and snoored away. We remained a safe distance away at a table. Nobody knew we were together. Anyhow, we get to board, now we have to deice. It took us 1 hr and 55 minutes sitting on that plane to get through the de-icing chamber. It was starting to get really late. I had taken an extra day off work and was really beginning to get glad. My biggest concern was I really wanted DS to go to school. He missed 4 days for this trip and 8 for a WDW trip back in the fall. I didn't want him to miss anymore if possible. It was nerve racking flying in the snow. You couldn't see anything. We finally landed almost 6 hrs past when we should of.

We make our way to our car w/ our luggage and it's buried. Ugh!! We finally get out and it takes another 2 hrs to make the 45 minute trek home. We don't get home to well after midnight-- I should of been home by 6-6:30 pm. I was alittle disappointed that MIL never anted up what she owed us. We won't see it, that I'm sure of. She also didn't offer to pay for any of the gas when we topped of the rental van tank (almost $30), nor did she offer anything when we pd for parking at the parks or at the airport (The airport parking was $75). Oh wait, she did pay the thruway toll on the way home it was $0.50!!!!

That was it--- I'm gonna write an after thought-- so please look for that as well.

I kept thinking.........and the icing on the cake will be the snowstorm (15 inches at my house) that you will come home to.

As much as you would like dh to accompany you the next time, I think you and your DS will be able to rekindle all of your Disney Magic. Try to look forward to your next trip and forget what happened this time. Afterall, there's nothing that can be done about it now and at least you know you'll never again go with your mil.

That's the first snow storm I've ever flown in-- actually it was the first time I've flown in any snow. I actually was beginning to panic alittle flying from JFK to Buffalo. Then when we got home our car was buried in from the plow. Here's DH in shorts (his jeans had gotten soaked loading the luggage in Orlando--- the only thing he had left dry and clean was shorts)-- trying to unbury the car. None of us had jackets or boots!!

I'm sorry you didn't have a better time. I cannot BELIEVE she didn't give your son the gift. I'm not sure how I would have handled that one.

Wow, what a trip. Why would she decide to keep a toy meant for kids, what interest would she have in it? I dont even know you and I want to hug your son.
