WDW vs. the terrible twos- and the verdict is... trip update 2/12

We've also had some really nice weather, so we've been to the beach and I found a playground we can walk to. Mark's work schedule has also been really light, so we've been able to spend lots of time together as a family. We're here for about another month before he leaves again on deployment, so we're trying to enjoy our time together as much as possible.

Happy for your family time - and for good weather!

I think hes going to take after his father and actually like spooky and scary things, and not be like his mother who will turn the channel if even a commercial for a scary movie comes on TV. :rotfl:

I am right there with you on that. I want no part of scary stuff! My second graders make fun of me.

I'm glad I did Belle once (I was the picture frame!) but I don't ever see the need to sit through it again. I just don't think its going to work well during high attendance times....

The baby pics are so cute!!!!! Both little guys are gorgeous. Congrats!

Yeah, I mean I knew then that the wait times would be monstrous! If you are waiting 1/2 or more when only .05% of the park even knows the attraction is operational, I could only imagine what the wait times would look like when it was available to everyone.

It's good to hear from you, but we'll definitely still be around later. Enjoy the family time while you have it! :thumbsup2

I've never even thought twice about it... if somebody seems to be hung up on playing with one of the features for longer than we are I just go. :rolleyes1

That is what I wanted people to do, but some people seemed to want to stop and wait for us! I felt really bad because I didn't want anyone waiting on us, we were going to be there for a while!
We have a few pictures like that from our trip. Not necessarily with the crypt for a background, but just trying to get DS in a non-action shot while looking in the general direction of a camera. :rotfl2::lmao:
Action shots- this trip was all about the action shots! ;)
Taking on that big brother like role already!

That's always the number one consideration... find the table out of the way with the least possible escape routes.
I didn't want to be that far away because I'm pretty klutzy when it comes to carrying trays of food, but it really worked out
Tough call, but I certainly can't fault you for it.
I see only one option there... paci it is! :thumbsup2
Well, I haven't seen it... Your half hour wait was far shorter than anything going on the whole time we were there. :faint:
Obviously, having not experienced it myself, I don't really know how I feel about it, but I know I've kind of wondered how it would work out and have a lot of the concerns that you expressed.
We'll try it again, but I know there were many DISers less than thrilled with the experience. It doesn't seem to be keeping people out of line however! :rolleyes1
Ooooh!!! Space Mountain, Thunder Mountain... oh yeah... nevermind... :rolleyes1
It certainly didn't work well the week the FLE officially opened. Consistently the longest wait in the park.:faint:
I'm sure the newness played into it, but it obviously isn't a high capacity attraction. :confused3
Yup, no high thrills for me! :rotfl:

Those photos of Foster are adorable! I can't wait to get photos of DS this summer. :goodvibes

The interactive queue for rides is pretty ingenius when it comes to toddlers. But, I had no idea about queue etiquette. I always just assumed I could pass people that were taking a long time. Woops. :confused3

I'm sorry that the whole Belle experience didn't go over so well. Taking away the regular Meet and Greet aspect does seem a little odd. I know way too many shy kids who just want to go up, say hello, and take their picture, definitely not risk landing in a skit with strangers. I can't see that lasting very long. :scratchin

Gosh, I guess I didn't express myself well. What I really want is people to just walk around us. Most people did, but there were others who seemed to be confused and wanted to wait on us before they continued. I felt bad and didn't want to hold anyone up, thats why I kept having to tell the other guests to just go around us!

Your little boy will be here soon and you'll be the one sharing baby pictures! :)

Great updates!!!! Love the photos, and as ever your little guy is just so cute!

Thanks, its nice to see you back around the DIS!

Glad to see you are all settling in well to Norfolk and as a family of 4!

I've really missed your updates!

I had a feeling the story time with Belle would be lacking but I'm sure we will be checking it out in March. It is going to be interesting going to disney with 3 little girls instead of 3 crazy boys this time!

I'm excited to see what solo adventures you embark on!

So glad to have you back! I'm glad to hear y'all are doing well! :goodvibes

I love that Everett loves Haunted Mansion! So cute! I may brave the interactive queue with Reid on our next trip since he did well with the ride.

As much as I love Belle, I am completely underwhelmed by everything I've read about her new meet & greet. It just seems so awkward for everyone and not very enjoyable.

OMG! Those baby pics are so precious and sweet! Of course, I really love the one with the Mickey ears.

Glad you are getting settled into Norfolk!! :goodvibes

Yeah, I'm with you on the "pass the people that are playing" in the HM queue. People very happily passed DF and I when we were checking out all the details, and I was completely fine with that!

Very sweet of Everett to try to console that little one in the Peter Pan queue! :goodvibes

Sorry to hear that the Belle storytime wasn't what you had hoped it would be. It does sound like a strange format for character interaction. I did LOL at your "budding thespians" line! :rotfl:

So glad to see you back! I'm glad everything is going well with the boys and your time with DH. :goodvibes I know you must be thrilled to have him home for this stretch!

Paxton is a HUGE fan of the Haunted Mansion queue! We are frequently telling people to go around us as he spends an infinite amount of time pushing the books back into the bookcase. :rotfl: They should definitely make that line more like an Interstate with rest stops...veer off to play with the games while the people wanting to stay on the "main road" keep walking.

I definitely laughed at Everett trying to reassure that little boy scared of Peter Pan...how adorable!! :goodvibes

I can just about imagine that meltdown over some sticks. Paxton has similar meltdowns over random objects. Leaves, sticks, fuzz off the carpet, you name it. It's like we are snatching away his most prized possession! :rolleyes2

Okay that guy in the ETwB pic made me :lmao:. Disney is definitely for everyone! Sorry you were not impressed with the show. I am wondering how we will like it when we get to visit. I'm sure the length and quality of the wait time has a lot of influence over the opinion of the show as well!

Looking forward to the next update!

And I'm sad I missed out on seeing the pics of Everett & Foster, but I'm sure they were adorable!

With all quiet on the Western Front, I resumed taking terrible pictures including this gem.

IMG_0625.jpg

Now that really is a little gem of a picture! :rotfl2: Maybe he should update his phone so he can get some better pictures!

Anyho - so glad you are all settled into your new digs. Hope all is going well.

Yeah - I think you may have flunked parenting 101 by taking away those sticks! You really can't separate a boy from his impromptu sticks and stones. :rotfl:

I think all your pictures are wonderful!

I'm slowly catching up on everyone's threads (I was sick and got a week behind and haven't updated my TR in ten days).

Love Everett playing in the Haunted Mansion line...you can see he's really enjoying himself.

The line for the experience with Belle when we were there in December was never less than 120 minutes and without kids there was no way we were waiting for it. I'm not sure we'll do it until we have grandchildren (if it's still there then).

Can't wait to see what you do with your solo afternoon.

I am right there with you on that. I want no part of scary stuff! My second graders make fun of me.

The nice weather does make things more pleasant! I have to say, I feel a little like a snowbird, leaving CT for the worst part of the winter to go stay down south!

I'm glad I'm not the only one who doesn't like to be scared! You'd never, ever, catch me at Universals Halloween Horror nights! :scared1:

Glad to see you are all settling in well to Norfolk and as a family of 4!

I've really missed your updates!

With three little girls I think it would be a must! I'm still on the fence as to whether I'm going to try it again on our next trip. Maybe I'll show it to youtube to Everett to see if he wants to do it again.

So glad to have you back! I'm glad to hear y'all are doing well! :goodvibes

Thank you, I think the pictures came out great! I did a shot with Everett in Mickey ears for his infant photo shoot, so I had to do the same for Foster.

I think Reid would LOVE the HM queue, it might even take his mind off the ride!

Glad you are getting settled into Norfolk!! :goodvibes

Everett does have a bit of "dramatic flair" about him, so I thought he would really enjoy the experience. Unfortunately he he used his drama quota in the queue with his oscar-worthy performance over mulch, and had nothing left to give to a performance with Belle.

Yeah, when I'm not planning a trip, or writing a TR I get sad here :rotfl:

The cure for that is to always be planning a trip (even if just in your mind) :rotfl:

So glad to see you back! I'm glad everything is going well with the boys and your time with DH. :goodvibes I know you must be thrilled to have him home for this stretch!

I'm glad Everett isn't the only little boy who is obsessed with the craziest things! He is all about rocks and sticks too, and we often have to take them home from the park. I don't let him take them into the house, so we are accumulating quite the pile outside of the front door of the house! :)

Now that really is a little gem of a picture! :rotfl2: Maybe he should update his phone so he can get some better pictures!

Anyho - so glad you are all settled into your new digs. Hope all is going well.

That guy was so awesome, he was really into the whole thing. I wonder if he is a DISboarder? ;):rotfl:

120 minutes! Thats nuts! I guess the new logic is to run to EtwB first thing, and you really have to get there fast, because the line build almost instantly. Thats a lot of work for a mediocre attraction.

Its time to report on some changes! :)

As you guys know my DH, Mark, is going to be back on deployment in April, and we just recently found out that my SIL's school (she's a teacher) has decided to cancel April vacation since they have missed so many school days due to Hurricane Sandy and snow days. Since two major players were going to have to the vacation if we kept it in April, we decided to push it back to the end of Sept/beginning of Oct.

We'll be celebrating my Dad's birthday a little late, but we'll be enjoying the Food and Wine Festival, so everyone thinks that is a good trade-off. We're going down Sept 26- and staying through Oct 2nd. Right now we're booked at SSR, since that is our home resort, but we're going to try and switch it at the 7th month mark.

BUT- since that seems ever so far away, we decided to take an interim trip. ;) We'll be back down at the World from May 8th-14th, and this time we'll be staying in a Cars family suite at AoA. Since it was so last minute, its hard to get DVC reservations, but I really wanted to try out the new resort, so it all works out. Not to mention that Everett is going to LOVE the Cars theme.

The trip will be me, Everett, Foster, my Mom, and also my Dad! My father isn't nearly the Disney fan that my Mom and I are, so he usually just sticks to going on our once a year family trips. But, since he'll be retired by May, and really he doesn't have anything else to do, so he decided to come along. :rotfl: Its going to be really fun to have him along too! :goodvibes

So, now I need to get cracking on planning TWO new trips! :yay:

I like the changes!!! I'm sure you'll have a fun trip in May. I hope you do a TR for that one too, I love seeing pictures of AoA. I'm sure Everett will be thrilled to stay there!

I think switching the April trip to September will be a good choice. If that's what it takes to get the whole crowd there together and you can enjoy F&W as a bonus, it seems like an obvious move! :thumbsup2

Yay for 2 trips! I'll actually be down there during your May dates...have you seen the new food booths for F&G Festival? They had me at spiced rum Dole whips!

Jill in CO

I wondered if you were still going to keep your April trip since your DH's plans had to change. It stinks having to push a trip back, but like you said, you'll be there during F&W. That'll be a great way to celebrate a late birthday. Plus, Foster will be a bit older by then.

Your dates for May are great. I love going in May. The weather can be hit or miss, but normally the crowds are relatively low. :thumbsup2

:woohoo::woohoo::woohoo: Perhaps it was a blessing the first trip being cancelled...now you have two to look forward to. I bet you that Everett is going to go crazy when he sees the Cars rooms.

That's great - 2 vacations to look forward to! Maybe it worked out for the best after all and am glad your dad is joining you in May :) Can't wait to see how Everett likes AoA and the Cars theme - would love to take my GS5 on a trip and stay there

Yeah for two trips and two perfectly awesome times of year to travel. You are going to love F&W and I have lots of F&W pictures posted on my current TR. Oh - and the Halloween party. :thumbsup2:thumbsup2 Love it!

Yay for a bonus trip to plan! That sounds perfect, and now you can enjoy F&W (and the wine part of it this time!)

I'll bet Everett will LOVE the Cars area at AoA. It looks like a little boys' dream. :goodvibes

How awesome!! Too bad out October dates will not be overlapping again this year but yay for a fall trip! And another one in the meantime, you lucky girl you! :)

Oh I know all about trip changes!!! Yay for 2 trips!!! And... We'll be at AoA at the same time! We're booked in a Nemo suite the 10-16! Is Everett really into cars? I bet he will love AoA!
