Does anyone have any experience with vacation homes reaaly close to WDW? We'll need a large home - our group totals 12 (8 adults and 4 children). Thank you for your help :flower3:

Hi not sure how many bedrooms or even how old the kids are BUT we are going to be staying at
http://www.vacationrentals.com/vacation-rentals/28281.html we are going end of July if you want info on this house we will be back Aug 7th just let me know and I can give you all the details when I get back

BUT a friend of mine recomended this place 1st but where we are staying was cheaper for us as theres 4 adults and 5 kids going ages from 4 to 15yrs, we are paying for 1 week $728 USD and spliting it in 1/2 with brother inlaw and his family they go from Sat to Sat reservations, you can see the fireworks from the place (the lady told me) plus it sounds close to Disney so I cant wait

The place they recomended:
http://www.orlandosecret.com/ they have a 3 bedroom house OR a 6 bedroom house which she said was GREAT as they have been there before
Anyways if you want more details on the place we are staying at just let me know myasmum@hotmail.com

We stayed at Summer Bay, a deal with got thru Skyauction. 235 for a 2 bedroom condo for the week.

They were pretty good, tried to get us to go to the sales presentation but they were not too high pressure. Called us 1 time per day to leave a message in case we changed our mind.

For a large pool home (which for 12 you will probably need so you are not on top of one another :) ) the closest villas to WDW are probably Emerald Island, Indian Creek & Formosa Gardens.

There is a back entrance, via Sherberth Road off the 192, which is very close to these homes - would probably only be 5 mins away from AK :cool1:

You could try www.vrbo.com or www.homeaway.com for homes in these areas. It will really depend on whether you are wanting community facilities which you get at Emerald Island but not at the other two.

Good luck with your search :goodvibes

Welcome to the Canadian boards! :goodvibes If you head over to the Orlando Hotel & Accommodation board, there is all kinds of information on rental homes.
http://www.disboards.com/forumdisplay.php?f=15

The people on that board seem to like the Windsor Hills development which is quite new. They have condo-apartments, townhomes, and rental homes with 4, 5, and 6 bedrooms with private pool etc. I believe it is one of the closest developments to Disney in the same area as Emerald Island.

Hope this helps.

We are in the process of looking as well. We can't seem to decide as there are SO many to choose from!! We are a group of four adults (possibly adding two if my brother and his gf can come too) and two kids. We've stayed at a pool home in High Grove before, which was nice, but they dont' rent anymore.

We stayed in a condo last year in Windsor Hills and we LOVE this particular community. I'd love to rent a pool home there, but they cost a lot more than some areas along 27, which for us is a big difference. You may find it fairly cost effective though for such a large group of people. For us, it would be split in half, whereas you sound like it could be split four ways (8 adults divided by 2?). You would probably need a six bedroom at least. The above site for WH rental is great as it is only WH owners.

Here are a couple of more (prepare to become addicted to seaching!!!) ...
www.onlinefloridavillas.com , www.orlandovillas.com , www.homeaway.com

The first two are "sister" sites and are all owner verified. If you put out an inquiry of a home and tick the "notify all 6 bdrm homeowners" (for example) you will get inundated with a TON of replies and offers. Then you can pick and choose what you like and don't. You get to be picky (ie. direction of pool - I prefer south or southwest facing, bed sizes and comfy mattresses, playground in the community, games room, etc).

Anyways, have fun looking ... I've narrowed our search down to about 20  ... and I just had a great offer from the last place we rented at WH (the condo) for 9 nights at $900 ... that is hard to pass up as we loved the big community pool there. So something else to ponder for us (me actually ... I seem to do ALL the work, but then again I wouldn't be able to pass if off to anyone else, so I shouldn't complain ;) )

Trying to find a link to the map of the area. Formosa gardens, Windsor Hills, Windsor Palms, Rolling hills all in the same area of the 192. We have stayed at Winsor palms twice and loved the house and the area. We used VRBO to search for a house. Formosa Gardens have some huge 7 & 8 bedroom houses
(mansions) and Winsor hills is the newest. I believe thier largest is 6 bedrooms. One thing we have done is use a credit card as the form of payment, adds some extra protrection. We used owners from the UK with Managment companies in Florida and everything worked great. Good Luck. When I find the link to the maps I will post it.

I really appreciate all the great information you've all posted! We have somewhere to start from now - thanks to you :)

Any further information would also be much appreciated - there are so many options to choose from LOL

Thank you everyone:flower3:

You can also rent points for a stay in a grand villa that sleeps 12 at Disney just ask some of the DVC members about the rooms and about any points available you can also check out teh dvc forum onhere for more info.

We stayed in a pool home in Windsor Hills area last August. It was lovely and so clean. It literally took us 5 minutes to get to Animal Kingdom using the Sherbeth Rd. entrance. We loved being so close to the parks and having space. There were 2 adults and 3 kids plus a visiting adult and child for part of our two weeks there. We had plenty of space. I am sure you will be pleased wherever you end up. I just searched sites recommended by folks here on the DIS and rented right from the owner who was British. All the homes in the Windsor Hills area were very new and well kept. Have a great time.

We've stayed in a couple of townhouses in Windsor Hills and 11 of us are going in Nov and staying in a 6 bedroom pool home. It was completed in May. This is the website http://www.vrbo.com/82681 It has 3 adult and 3 twin bedrooms.
She also has another in WH that's only 2 yrs old and has 4 adult and 2 twin bedrooms called Perfect Hideaway.
This is the site with the rest of the homes she owns.

We used vrbo.com to find this one but all of the sites are good. WH is great.
