I was going to enter (with lots of help from my eldest DD ) but when I went to upload my entry they had closed the competition early. I was at the time and even fired an email off to complain but my entry wasn't a patch on the winner's which definitely deserves to win.

I don't think that's at all true. When the competition was first discussed on the DIS a lot of us made rather uncomplimentary comments about our own towns.

I'm really happy that someone cared enough about their town to enter it but a lot of reactions have been "Why Swindon?" that's why I started another thread as I was interested to see which towns wouldn't have got that reaction, but I'm beginning to think that we (British people in general) instantly find the faults rather than the good points of where we live.
