Hiya guys,
This was my original post: http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2577775
First off, thank all of you SO much for being so supportive. You guys rock. Going to Walt Disney World so soon after my dad's passing was the best decision I could have ever made! My friends and I had been planning this trip for years. Disney World was full of so many happy memories... I never thought it could possibly become more essential to my existence, but it is the best place to grieve. Ever. Even if you get sick, like I did. Especially if you finally have the chance to run around the MK dressed as Ariel. Like I did. My 9-year-old self had such a good time at MNSSHP.
So much so that I bought a second ticket for my last night and loitered around the park until 1am. Woot. My dad would have been proud.
I did end up spending a lot of time alone. My (three) friends had their own schedule, and my dad's death made it so I NEEDED to do certain things - like watch the Main St. Electrical Parade as much as humanly possible. I probably would have been like this anyways, as the light parades are my favourite - saw it three times - almost 4 (I was sick enough to have to go back to the hotel) in the week I was at WDW. I admit I am still a bit upset that no one offered to come with me, but in the end, I think the time alone was exactly what I needed.
Dressing up as Ariel for MNSSHP was AMAZING. I've wanted to be Ariel since seeing the movie. (I was 9 - am 30 now.) Growing up in Ontario, Canada, my sister and I usually had to wear snowsuits under our costumes - no way was I going to be a stay puff marshmallow mermaid! My mum was so amazing, finishing my costume just days after dad's passing. I had to beg her to finish my flounder purse, but I'm so glad she did - he was my constant companion. I think the only pictures he isn't in are the ones at Universal. (Butter Beer is SO yummy! I got the 'iced' kind - like a slushie.)
The Magic Kingdom is my favourite place in the whole world. I spent most of my time in Fantasyland and Frontierland. Fantasyland because it's my favourite, and Fronteirland because it was my dad's favourite. He was such a cowboy at heart.
We stayed at Pop Century and had the free deluxe dining plan. I highly recommend the free dining plan! We saved so much money. And don't order the pizza to your room! At least not the meat kind. Ew.
Best. Costume. Ever.
More to come!
