Newbie here!
We will have our own car, but a friend told me that they never used their own vehicle at all, once arriving. We are staying at CR. Would we be better off driving our own car to go to AK or Downtown, even though we're completely unfamiliar with the driving. What do you all think?

I always drive, but I am a control freak. I don't like giving even Disney control of my transportation.

Driving in Disney is easy! The signage and directions are very well laid out. You'd have to work real hard and not pay attention to get lost IMHO.

If you are headed to another resort for a meal I would take my own car since you would need to make a connection to get to another resort. I would also take WDW transport to get to the Magic Kingdom.

I found the signs very easy to follow around WDW. I wouldn't hesitate to drive around the world.

It depends at which parks you're spending most of your time. If you're at the CR, you're in luck - there's lots of transportation options. You can take the 8 to 10 minute walk to the MK or monorail around the lagoon. To Epcot take the monorail to the TTC, which is just one stop away.

The Wilderness Lodge and Ft Wilderness are easily accessible via a boat launch right from the Contemporary. As for the other MK resorts you have the monorail.

Everyplace else you'll need a bus. How patient are you? You won't wait more than 20 minutes.

Thank you guys so much! I'm running out of time and just got around to thinking about transportation!
Ok, so am I right here???....... walk to mk, monorail to meals at Poly and GF, monorail to Epcot, boat to Fort Wilderness (HDD), and drive to MGM, AK, waterparks, Downtown??

How long a drive in our car for AK and Downtown?

How long should it take from leaving CR to actually be at the HDD? Wondering what time should begin leaving for a 7 show.

Soooo excited!

i reccommend being down to the cr boat dock by 5:30, this should give more than enough time, and you can walk around by pioneer hall and see the petting zoo animals, the peacocks should be out and about at that time, we stayed for many years in fw campground and used the boats and connected through cr many times

Great idea, Gary!
What is pioneer hall? And I'd forgotten about hearing of the petting zoo. Is that pretty fun?
