WDW Tours KTK & Family Magic Advance Ressies Needed?

I've been looking into WDW tours and I'm hoping to take the KTK tour myself....I LOVE that kind of stuff...and I thought it'd be fun to take my 2 nieces on the Family Magic Scavenger Hunt tour as a surprise. What I'm wondering is, do I need to make ressies before we get there or would I be able to wait and make the reservations once we get there and I have a better idea about weather and the best day to go? We are going first week of December....how do the tours fill up during that time?

Also is there a minimum about of people you have to sign up for the Family Magic Tour? I'm thinking it will just be me and my two nieces.
