On our way home from WDW next month, we are going the "scenic" route, which is about 2or 3 hours longer than our usual route. We will be going to Tallahassee, up to Montgomery, Al, Nashville, Louisville, Cincinnati and then home. We wanted to take our time, see spring in the south and we drove part of this route in February when we went to New Orleans. Anyway, now I have found out that there is a NASCAR truck series race at the Nashville Speedway on Friday the 22nd of April My son LOVES the truck series and would love to go to a race. :thumbsup2 We are leaving WDW on Thursday morning around 9 am. How long should it take us to get to Nashville going through Tallahassee? I do not want to go through Atlanta! We don't mind if we have to stay overnight in someplace like Montgomery or Birmingham and I only want to drive around 10 hours or so on Thursday. The race doesn't start until 7 pm on Friday, but we would like to get to the track around 4 pm to give us time to check into a hotel.

Taking your suggested route is doable. Mapquest shows it's only about 12 1/2 hours from Orlando to Nashville going through Tallahassee. If you spend the night in Huntsville, which is about 10 1/2 hours, then it's a short two hour drive to Nashville. Depending on time, you might be able to visit the US Space and Rocket Center in Huntsville before heading up to Nashville. Or you might just want to head up to Nashville and take in some of the sites of Music City USA. Perhaps the Country Music Hall of Fame?

You said you're going through Cincinnati. Anyplace in particular you're wanting to visit here?

We stopped in Cincinnati on our way south when we went to New Orleans, so this time we will just drive right through. I think we will stop at the Kentucky Speedway, though, once again, just to visit the gift shop. They were finishing up the new one when we were there last month and my DH wants to stop and see it. We also stayed the night in Nashville last trip in both directions. We went to the Grand Ole Opry and other sites. We were amazed at the high water marks around the city from the flood. Lots of rebuilding going on. It must have been something to experience! It is a beautiful part of the country and we will be anxious to see the area in it's spring colors. February was a little dull & dreary, but April should be great.

Thanks for the information on our proposed route. It sounds like we can do this! My DS will be very happy!

Having lived through that flood (my house was flooded with sewage - ewwww!), I can honestly say that last year's flood was something I never want to experience again in my life. There are people here who are STILL trying to rebuild!

If you're able, I would suggest staying the night at the Opryland Hotel after the race. It is one place I always take visitors to see and one they always request. The hotel is incredible (off Briley Parkway) with 3 ginormous indoor gardens. The entire hotel was flooded last May and was completely revamped, having just opened back up in November of last year. Even if you can't stay, I still recommend visiting. It's definitely a must-see.
