WDW suites

Hi all, we usually pull our 5th wheel down to Fort Wilderness, but that takes 7 days round trip. Thinking of doing a 4 day weekend fly in and, dare I say it, a HOTEL. Was wondering if DW had any suites or similar? Would like on bay lake for MK firework viewing. With the coach we are used to plenty of room, kitchen, etc.

Your only options with a kitchen are the DVC rooms (1 bedroom or larger, no studios) at the Contemporary at Bay Lake Tower, Villas at the Grand Floridian or the Bungalows at the Polynesian. Be ready for sticker shock!

The Cabins at Ft. Wilderness are another option but you really don't have a good view of the fireworks from the beach area but it is much more affordable. Full kitchen and the cabins have been updated recently.

How many are in your group? Have you looked into the cabins at Ft. Wilderness?

I'd go on the WDW website and put in your dates, see what comes up.

The deluxe resorts have suites, but they are pricey. There are family suites at a couple value resorts (Art of Animation has themed ones; All Star Music has them with less in your face theming). Of course they are not on Bay Lake, but you can always visit a MK resort and watch the fireworks from the beach.

Well another option is to rent an RV from a company that delivers and sets up the RV for your arrival day at Ft. Wilderness and then removes it after your stay.

There are a number of companies in the Orlando area that provide this service.

Your options would be 1- or 2-bedroom villas at BLT or VGF (or a bungalow at Poly) or suites at any of those resorts (which are CL level suites). 1- and 2-bedroom villas will have kitchens and washer/dryers, suites would not. There are also 1- and 2-bedroom villas at CCV and BRV at WL, plus cabins at CCV (again, with w/d and kitchens). For more space, you could also consider a deluxe CL room at WL. Or as PP's have mentioned, there are cabins at Ft. W and RV rental companies. Lots of options!

I've not priced it myself but have inquired with others and been told that the price for this exceeds the cost of most Deluxe rooms on property.

Actually the price can be very competitive at about $345 vs the lowest price for a single standard view Deluxe room. The RVs sleep 6-8, have full kitchens. Whether it is a value for 4 guests depends on what the guests are looking for, in this case the OP enjoys camping an a luxury 5th wheel camper at Ft. Wilderness.

The deluxe Motor Coaches (buses with multiple power extensions) are in the GF RPC price range but they are truly deluxe suites on wheels that sleep 6-8 or more guests. A true DVC type experience with kitchen, washer/dryer, etc...

As @twocat suggested the Cabins at Ft. Wilderness would also another good choice, full kitchen, sleeps 6: 1 Q / 1 D Sleeper sofa, and bunk beds for about $289 - $389 depending on season and discounts.

The FW Cabin sleep sofa is a Queen, not a double since the renovation. So the bedding is 1Q, 1 twin bunk set in the BR and a Queen sleep sofa in the Living room

If it's 4 adults, you could do two rooms.

Not sure what your budget is though.

I thought the same thing about the change to the Queen sleeper sofa from the Murphy bed in the living area with the new cabins. However when I checked disneyworld.disney.com for pricing it listed a Double sleeper sofa. Certainly would not be the first or last time the Disney web content was incorrect!

I have not slept in the Cabins since the renovation so I could be wrong. I am taking my information from Dave Shute author of Your (First) Visit. He did a review of the new Cabins when they were renovated and included lots of great photos. He often measures beds etc, and shows his tape measure (along with his book) in many photos. He actually measured the sleep sofa and stated it was Queen Size. Based on the measurements and Disney know proclivity for errors, I believe Dave.
I guess until one of us actually sleeps there we will have to choose who to believe.

Like I said, I'd been told the campers are as much, or more, than many Deluxe rooms at Disney. Fun if you want to camp, just not a cost savings.

One could make the same argument against renting DVC, yet many people will gladly forgo housekeeping to save some money. Just look at the number of people who accepted gift cards in exchange for no housekeeping at select resorts!

RVs have come a long way since the days when I was a kid. Many of them are quite luxurious with everything from flat screen tvs with surround sound systems to king size beds with premium mattresses. Just like you prefer the pampering of a deluxe resort, some people value the privacy of not sharing a wall with a noisy family that rises at 5 AM and leaves the TV on full blast all night.

I've looked at pricing for RV rentals and they aren't far off from what the PP stated. Of course, that rate would be for one of the smaller RVs without all the bells and whistles. Looking at the OP's signature, it appears that they are accustomed to something much more comfortable.

To the OP, given that you have done the Fort many times, I suggest trying something a little different. If money is not a huge consideration, the Poly bungalows might fit the bill. Two bedrooms, two baths. Over the water deck with a view of Bay Lake. Personal plunge pool. Full kitchen and living room-dining room area. They are not cheap, but if you want space to spread out at Disney, there are few options that do not cost $$$. Renting from a DVC owner can cut the price a bit.

In my view it would have to be a "money" is almost free situation, the Bungalows start at more than $2K per night in value season and more than 3K per night during holiday season. While it may be a value for 8 guests, I can't in my mind justify those daily rates for 4 guests.

Note: the Polynesian Bungalows have a beautiful view since they sit over the Seven Seas Lagoon but only a view of the water bridge to Bay Lake.

I stand corrected. They sit on the 7 Seas Lagoon and have only a limited view of Bay Lake. However, the MK fireworks can be seen from the deck and the music is piped in for the guests to enjoy.

The price tag is not an easy one for a lot of people to stomach. I'm just throwing it out there as another option for the OP since the Bungalows have not been suggested. They're actually on my bucket list as a DVC owner. I would never pay the cash rate.

When we did a price comparison for a rental 5th wheel vs. a deluxe room it was more reasonable to do the deluxe room. The actual rental price of the RV wasn't bad and we got excited at the prospect of it but then when you add in the cost of a campsite for each night it was not as reasonable as we believed.

Yeah, camping in a rented RV could be a fun option for sure. Just not a more economical one. I think that's where the surprise came in.
