They are currently telling CM's scheduled for monday that they are planning on being open. I guess we will have to wait and see when the storm is clear what the outcome is. There are a lot of power lines down and traffic signals down (lots of power outages). We obviously can't get to work if the roads are blocked...So yes, as of right now they are expecting to open tomorrow (Monday)
Now they are saying a 10am open from MK (they were shooting for 7am). I guess we will have to wait and see. I know that they have asked us to come in one hour prior to what we were originally scheduled so they are trying to get open as soon as they can.
I suppose there has been a skeleton crew in the parks all along and damage appraisals have already been done to estimate the park opening time with. Park opening would also depend on how many CM's made it in and when, everyone would be helping with cleanup too.
Weather reports all day long suggest to me that winds were below WDW's construction design limit (someone said 115 MPH) which in turn suggests that damage would be minimal.
Yes there is a ride out crew that are designated CM's that stay through the entire storm in order to secure everything and then clean it up. The weather has been very windy (sustained at about 40MPH, maybe more...and gusts over 70mph... the only problem is it has been ALL day) and very rainy (we are STILL getting squalls through here at 10pm). I would not be surprised to see trees down and signs tatered just like Charley did.
The news just reported that only MK and Epcot will be open today and on a limited schedule for both. Trying to get the tourism trade back on track a bit...
According to a travel agent report I get, they had minimal horticultural damage. They did not ever lose power and no guest areas were affected. Only MK and EPCOT will be open Mon.
