Our trip will be here before we know it and I had made all of our reservations before I even had a clue that I had Celiac Disease. We have already taken Tutto Italia off the list because we were going there because there was one pasta dish I wanted to try. My sweet husband was going along for the ride.

I'm going to list our restaurants and if you don't mind will you tell me if you have had a good or bad experience there. I do have the list from WDW about their gluten-free restaurants but I would like to hear your experiences too. I don't just want grilled chicken & veggies. I don't do bland.

Cape May - Dinner
Coral Reef
Ohana - Breakfast - this will be difficult because I can't eat eggs or melons either but this is more for my nephews so I'll suck it up and pay for the meal I can't eat just to see their faces. Well and to see my husband's face light up when he sees Stitch! He looks like he just saw the biggest movie star when Stitch walks in the room!

Biergarten - Lunch
Garden Grill - Dinner
Toy Story Pizza Planet - Lunch - another one for the boys
Chef Mickey's - Breakfast - another one for the boys
Cosmic Ray's - Lunch
Big River Grille - Dinner
Le Cellier - Dinner - Can I lick a pretzel roll?
Kouzzina - Dinner
Blue Zoo - Dinner

Thank you for taking the time to read this and for helping me. Sorry that I'm going to make a few posts in my own thread. But I think it will be a little easier to follow than having such a long first post.

Cape May I don't eat any seafood or fish so I'll be sticking to the salad and roasted chicken. Last year I also ate the mac & cheese. This year that is off the list. The green beans were also very good last year.

Do you know if the roasted chicken here is safe? I remember reading that the roasted chicken at Garden Grill is safe with advanced notice. Is it the same here?

Coral Reef NY Strip - all of the sides appear safe

Ohana Can they or do they serve the Van's waffles here? If they did it would make it so much easier on all of us. I've had these twice this week and they weren't bad at all. Are the potatoes, sausage & bacon safe?

Biergarten I've never been here before so this will be our first visit. Should we even go? Or will I be too worried about what I'm eating. I'm picky. I'm not a veal eater. I know they will walk through the buffet line with me. Is the food worth it? Will there be enough good stuff for me to eat?

Garden Grill YUM! One of my favorites! It says the Rotisserie chicken is safe with advance notice. Does the little form I fill out and send back in serve as my advance notice? Or do I need to call too? Am I worrying too much? Yes, I am a huge worry wart!

Toy Story Pizza Planet How does that pizza taste? Would I be better off getting the chicken salad?

Chef Mickey's Yet another breakfast. But the boys love going here. The baby (well he's 5) LOVES Pluto so it will be worth it here too. Do they have Van's waffles here? I can at least get a bunch of strawberries here. And ummm, I can't think of what else. :headache: Breakfast is so hard for me. I can't have grapes or bananas or citrus or melons...

Cosmic Ray's How are the buns? Are they better than the nasty disintegrating ones? I love the toppings bar.

Casey's Corner Somehow I forgot to put that on the first list, but I've got to have a Casey's hot dog! Same as Cosmic Ray's - how's the bun?

What about the cheese sauce? Is it safe? I forgot to look on my papers for it.

And I have to remember to ask them to bake my fries or to cook them in a seperate fryer.

Big River Grille We may need to change this one because I was going to get a burger. That was about the only thing on the menu that looked good to me at the time. Maybe you can make some suggestions. Remember, I don't eat fish or seafood.

Le Cellier Mushroom filet

Kouzzina I'm not so thrilled about this one but my husband really wants to eat at an Iron Chef's restaurant. I had selected the stewed chicken. I've heard they have some kind of crackers or bread there that is safe.

Blue Zoo Filet without the sauce

What do you think of my selections? What do I need to rethink? What doesn't look safe? There are some breakfasts that I was going to get an apple turnover but that has to be changed now. And some counter service lunches that may end up being the allergy-free chicken strips.

Oh, we are going to Yak & Yeti twice. I have to call them back before we go and I really do hope I get to talk to the same manager as the one I got earlier. He was going to try to make something for me other than the bland, boring grilled chicken & veggies. I told him how much we loved eating there. It really is our favorite restaurant.

Again, thank you for reading and thank you for your assistance!!!

I'm going to Le Cellier and Coral Reef for dinner too. I'm also going to O'hana for dinner, not breakfast. I've heard that O'hana is great for allergies (chef T.J. sounds awesome!), but I haven't heard a breakfast review. From my last trip, I had great success with dietary restrictions and had a lot of choices. It was great. :thumbsup2

I would definitely fill out the dietary form and send it to Brenda. I might also try to get in contact with some of the restaurants to speak with chef so you know specific and to set your mind at ease. and sometimes the chefs do call, I recently got a call from the Grand Floridian for the Garden View Tea Room afternoon tea that we reserved to go over my likes and dislikes, etc. It was pretty neat to get a phone call from Disney at work! :woohoo: But, I wouldn't expect that they will call for sure, I have found that with disney sometimes it's better to be proactive and call yourself.

My first disney trip after food intolerances was a bit nerve racking, but now that I know how great they handled it and how much variety I had I'm just pumped to go eat and not worry about it!

Good luck and definitely share your reviews!

Thanks! This is the first year I've filled out the form. Usually with my egg allergy I would just call ahead if I had to but would always note it on the reservation. Then when I arrive I make sure they know and remind my server. But because of my allergies I always preplan my meals. Well and I like to plan them ahead of time. It is fun looking over the menus. That way I also know my budget too. Everyone thinks I'm nuts because I know exactly how much I'm going to spend, even tax and tips.

How early do you send in the form?

The best part is, none of these chefs will let you get grilled chicken and vegetables. They don't do bland either. Most will bend over backwards to make sure you have something delicious you can eat. Even at 'Ohana I'm sure the chef will come out and make sure there's stuff for you to eat. I don't particularly have specifics for you, but I hope this helps anyway.

I few years ago I was at 'Ohana for breakfast with some other people. One of the friend's parents each had different allergies and a chef came out and made special dishes for each of them as well as letting them know what was safe for them on the buffet. And no extra charges.

Thanks! Everyone at WDW is so wonderful to work with.

My sister goes this Wednesday for her blood test to see if she tests positive for Celiac Disease. If she does test positive there will be two of us they will need to cook for. But then I won't be all alone. :) I told her that Disney will take great care of us.

I'm definitely a type A planner and am always looking at menus and getting ideas before I go to WDW. I submitted my allergy form 3 months before our trip, and I just received a call about 2 1/2 months before the trip, which I was surprised about! However, I do fill out the form, note it on all my reservations, confirm with the hostess/host and then reconfirm with the server. You can't be too careful. Plus, I have gone to a lot of WDW restaurants where the servers didn't even notice the note until I mentioned it to them. It pays to be proactive about your dietary restrictions. You can't be too careful!

Thanks snorris49! I'm going to wait until my sister gets her test results back before I send in my form. I'd feel better if I sent it in now, but I'm afraid her test is going to be positive too and I don't want to have to do another form & possibly cause confusion.

In my experiences :

Biertgarten was excellent on a chef walking me thru the buffet and helping me with a dessert from the back :0

Cape May chefs have normally been hlpful- there has been 1 or 2 times they were not great as some others have been. same with chef mickeys- some good - some not so good yes to Vans waffles last time we went.

I like the amy's pizzas -they took a while to get used to but I like them. theya re big and I can't finish one by myself. I have been told by different people that they do and I have been told by others they do not have the GF pizzas there- go with what WDW tells you.

Ohanna: bacon should be safe-I think they did vans- it's been 2 years since we did ohanna so I am not sure what they do now-
I don't eat sausage so I can't tell you- some sausages have wheat- I only eat Jones brand sausages these days.

I have NEVER had trouble at Garden grill - give them a heads up about allergies on your reservations- we eat there at least once every two-three months and others have had complaints about service and allergies, but I have never had an issue there.

The buns fall apart at cosmic rays... the buns at pecos bills fall apart:rotfl: all the tapioca rolls fall apart!
I have taken to adding lots of mustard and catsup and getting a fork and knife and eating them like that.

Just speak up and don't be afraid to ask or tell someone about allergies.
Hope this helped!

I was interested in this post because I didn't know there was a blood test for celiac? My gastroenterologist told me the only test was a biopsy (which he took when he was giving me another test). According to that I did not have celiac even though I tend to have a lot of the symptoms. What type of blood test is it? (if you know)

Thanks Pudge! That was very helpful.

I'm really excited because we found a grocery store close to home that carries Van's waffles. YAY!!! We don't have to drive an hour away for them.

So glad to hear that about Garden Grill. It used to be my favorite WDW restaurant. That was until Y&Y stole the #1 spot last year. So GG is a very close #2 now. That place is awesome!

dont worry youll be fine!!!!! always talk to the chef. they do whatever they. can fifties prime time cafe made fried chicken, rose and crown made fish and chips, one place in hollywood studios cleaned the entire grill for me, and they all have desserts.

cape may- almost everything is gluten free.

idk about other dinners like i said talk to the chef.

garden grill- ahhh amazing. it was the very first place i ate on our last trip. i loved every minute of it. alll the steak and chicken is okay and i can honestly say they were the best mashed potatoes i have ever had in my life. and i got a brownie.
and for lunch again i dont know BUT every pizza place has gluten free pizza! dont worry. any questions? just ask me!

Hi! I wish I could give you more help, but I haven't eaten at most of the places on your list (we're trying Blue Zoo this time so I'll be sure to post a review).

The Amy's pizza isn't bad - basically like decent frozen pizza (not great but not horrible). The tapioca buns are so much better toasted (in the oven of course) so I always try to ask for them to be heated well in the oven (I actually once received a frozen dinner roll at Citrico's - so always better to ask). The new GF chicken fingers that they have are really good, but I'm not sure if they are also egg-free.

Another thing I wanted to note is that Chef Mickey's and O'Hanas should make you gluten free pancakes (or possibly Mickey waffles depending on what they have in the kitchen) if you ask. I think this is usually made with an egg, but they should prob have an egg substitute as well. (They make the batter from a GF mix so I don't see why that would be a problem.)

Hope you have a great trip! :cool1:

Thanks DVC_Princess! The new chicken strips are also egg-free. They sent me the info sheet on them. I'm so glad they send you so much info now. Disney really does do an awesome job with all the information they provide and how great of a job they do for those of us with special dietary needs.

Is the chocolate mousse in France gluten free? I know it isn't egg-free but I'm willing to eat a little anyway. I know I can eat it without it bothering me.
