For those of you who have these and have used them for more than one year, how well do they stand up?

I am hoping to be able to make going to Disney a yearly or at least every other year thing. The cheap $ store ponchos we got don't hold up that well. I would rather pay a bit more money and have a Disney one instead and use it for a few years.

So, is it worth buying one so I can reuse it? I realize it is still cheap plastic and won't last forever though and I know it will still cost more than the $ store ones.

How much are they?

Thanks. :hippie:

They hold up much better than the $1.00 ones at say Wal-Mart but you can still do better purchasing one at Wal-Mart but their better quality ponchos. The ones Disney makes now don't hold up nearly as well as their old Yellow ones :lmao: I had the yellow for years and years.. the clear ones don't seem to be as heavy but they do last. I have had 2 for at least 3 years. One did tear so now I use it to line my trunk with :thumbsup2

With that being said, I have a blue one, heavy gauge from Wal-mart. I paid about $4 for it maybe 10 years ago.. still have it!!!

To me the Disney ponchos may be good for one trip. I wouldn't use them for a second one, they barely survived one. You can find a much better quality poncho elsewhere for the same price.

I have used one now on two trips with lots of use. Especially last week it rained almost our whole trip! They hold up really well for $8.50 and I confirmed with one CM that they do replace if torn. If you get one CM that says no, they prob just don't know that.

We've used our Disney ponchos for several trips and they've held up great. We did try the Wal-Mart ponchos they didn't even survive one trip. For a few dollars more we got the ones from Disney.

The thing that pushed me over the edge was I read on here (and asked when I purchased them) that Disney will replace them if they get torn for free. Ours haven't torn so I haven't had to ask to get them replaced.

We still have our yellow ponchos! We bring them back, year after year. I didn't know they were a collector's item! :rotfl:

We have the Disney ponchos, but honestly prefer the $1 ponchos over them. The Disney brand is much thicker and MUCH HOTTER! We've been using the same $1 ponchos for repeated Disney trips, and they're still in perfect condition. I hang them up to dry when we get back to the resort, and then I just fold them up and pack them in our bag the next day when we head back to the park.

If you take care of them they seem to last for a while still have some from 02 I believe.

I have a Columbia rain jacket, but the poncho is much easier to manage. Plus it is a bit longer and it allows me to keep my purse/cross body covered.

We have used our Disney ponchos (the old yellow ones) for 10 trips. When I get home I put them in the washer on gentle and hang them out to dry. Just returned from our last trip two days ago and ponchos are good for another trip.

Thanks for the replies.

I just wanted the WDW poncho with Mickey on it. No, I'm not 8! LOL Just a Disney fan like the rest of us.

If it will last more than one trip, then I don't mind spending a bit more than what I could get the same quality for less at home.

It is good to know about them being replaced for free if it rips. I'm sure like most things Disney, it all depends on who you talk to how easy it will be. Either that or they will change the rules after a while. :rotfl:

Do you remember when the different parks had different color poncho's? I still have one from 1999 that I got at the animal kingdom. It's a tan color and everytime I wear it someone asks where they can get one. I've even had cast members ask if they could buy it from me. It still goes with me every trip.

wished I still had my yellow.. never thought of the washing machine.. I put mine in the shower and spray them to wash them off lol

hold on to them :thumbsup2 when mine finally did rip, they would not replace it at Disney.. as they were sooooo old they said they did not make that style anymore :rotfl: so, while they may replace some, they don't replace all :rotfl2: and my clear ripped much sooner than my yellow.. My clear that ripped was a different style than the one they have now so I didn't even bother to ask them to replace it.. figured I got my money out of it :thumbsup2

I still have my yellow Mickey poncho from 1994! We don't get to go to WDW all that often, but I took it last time (2009).

It's made at least 5 moves with me and I intend to take it next year. :)

I have replaced 2 ponchos at Disney. One was an older style, but the CM @ Contemporary did replace it after she checked with her supervisor. The CM in the park hardly looked at the poncho when I asked to exchange it- they must have more experience with it.

What I always liked about the Disney ponchos was that you don't have to carry them around and can get one just about anyplace on site when you actually need it. I've always considered them disposable, but have had them last beyond the trip. My only complaint has been they are tight around my large neck so I usually end up cutting or ripping them a bit for comfort. If you take them home for future use, be sure to make sure they're completely dry before you store them to avoid mildew.
