Hi! I know there are loads of smart people on these boards and I'm hoping one of you can pipe in and help us out w/this!

We are going to WDW for 5 days in Jan. We're looking at the options and are thinking about just getting the 5 day base ticket w/the hopper add-on and no exp. b/c we'll use up all 5 days. But, we do have a few questions ....

If we get the 10 day base plus park hopper option and no expiration option ...

1. How long is "no expiration" good for?

2. Can you apply the unused "no expiration" days to an AP (non-resident)?

3. If I buy the above pass for DS9 (who will turn 10 in Oct.) and we don't use the remaining days until DS turns 10, what happens when he turns 10? Do I have to "upgrade" the remaining days?

We thank you, in advance, for any/all assistance!

Warmly,

Daxx's Wife, Daxx & DS9

The "no expiration" means that the passes never expire as long as WDW exists.
2. Can you apply the unused "no expiration" days to an AP (non-resident)?
Yes, but those days will not have much value. If you compare the cost of a 10-day pass to a 5-day pass, you'll see that the difference is only $86.XX. When you use the first day of any multi-day pass, the value of the pass is reduced by the value of a single-day ticket. Use 2 days and the value drops by the amount a 2-day pass would cost. Use 5 days and subtract the value of a 5-day pass from the initial value of the ticket. If you buy a 10-day pass and use 5 days, you would be better off using it for another 5-day visit rather than applying the partially-used pass towards an AP.

3. If I buy the above pass for DS9 (who will turn 10 in Oct.) and we don't use the remaining days until DS turns 10, what happens when he turns 10? Do I have to "upgrade" the remaining days?
Disney does not penalize a child for growing up. Just bring your now-10-year-old child to Gurst Services at any park and they will exchange the child ticket for an equivalent adult ticket for no charge.

Thanks for the great info.! That makes our decision on which passes to buy much easier!

We're going for a "quickie" in Jan. and will get the 5 day base w/hopper and won't buy the "no expiration" option since we'll use it length of stay.

One more question ... if I get an AP now (before a price increase), can I hold off on activating it until August? In other words, is there a time limit in which you must activate an AP from date of purchase?

1. The non-expiring ticket is usable for as long as WDW exists or for as long as you exist whichever is shorter!

1a. ... according to one hopper pass brochure published about ten years ago which went something like "good for any (four) days out of the rest of your life".

1b. Occasionally someone got a pixie dust special from Disney in the form of transferring the remains of a pass to someone else following the untimely passing of the original guest.

2. If you "change your mind" and want an annual pass and the MYW pass was first used less than 14 days ago (and not exhausted I am told), the exchange rate is better. You get the full price of the MYW pass as trade up value, but the AP you get is back dated to the first date of use of the surrendered pass.

3. For convenience, many sources and some CM's have suggested letting a child use the remains of his pass as-is until several years past nine or even until a turnstile CM rejects the pass sending the child to Guest Services to exchange it.

4. No time limit so far. Annual passes have been issued with no extra charge no matter how long ago the voucher was purchased, but nothing has been published or promised as to how long this will continue without a surcharge upon redemption of a voucher purchased long ago.
