WDW or DL?

If you get to go be careful. You will want to go back. It really is amazing. It is far and away the best of the disney parks. Epcot is #2 in my opinion. You owe it to yourself to see it. It has more charm and nostalgia that WDW could ever dream of in my opinion.

Tony Baxter said it could never be duplicated.

Don't get me wrong I love WDW but I found my new home in DL.

Here's my favorite quote:
"There's an answer the old timers at Disney like to give when asked to compare the Anaheim and Orlando main parks, and to me it still applies as to how they are currently run: Disneyland is a park designed by a father for his daughters, while the Magic Kingdom is designed by a committee for the hordes."

That is by far and away my favorite quote ever. I've never heard that before. Thanks so much. Who said it?

I had never heard this quote before but it is now easily one of my favorites :)

I remember someone on the DIS made a comment years ago that I really liked. I'm paraphrasing here, but it was something along the lines of

When I visit DL, I think of Walt Disney. When I visit WDW, I think of Disney Inc.

I agree with all of this! Disneyland really is the gift Walt gave not only to his children but to everybody else's too!

I so often hear that Walt learned a lot with Disneyland and then got it "right" with WDW. There may be some truth in that (the gift of space that WDW enjoys for sure) but in essence, DL is the real Magic Kingdom in my book. Although I try not to play favorites!

You've really convinced me. I always wanted to go but was out voted. I just had a little chat with my dad and said "How about a little trip to DL to check it out" and he said he would be interested (finally, after all these years of no to me)!

Already have 2 WDW trips planned for September and January so will be keeping my eyes out!

We are WDW vets and AP holders. I have been vacationing with my family in Newport Beach, CA since childhood and just counted approx. 4-5 trips to DL as a child. Then my family started going to WDW, and I haven't been to DL for somewhere between 25 and 30 years. Our three boys have never been to DL. This year, we're adding three days in DL to the beginning of our Newport vacation.

So I'd recommend the same approach that the previous poster suggested - 3 days at DL and then something else in southern California. Of course, I love Newport and Catalina. But we've also spent time in San Diego, Laguna, Huntington, L.A., etc.

One of the reasons we've skipped DL all these years is that we love WDW so much, another is that we're in Newport so often we always figure we'll just catch it next time. But I'm getting sentimental about the original, I miss Mr. Toad, and I'd really love for our boys to see DL. Once I saw the GCH, I was sold. :)

I talked my friend into going with me so I'll have to keep on the lookout for something. Thanks all.
