Flights to San Juan are not too costly depending on your departure airport. So check into those as part of your cost. Puerto Rico is an extension of the US. If you arrive a day or two early you can spend time seeing some of the sights like Castillo San Felipe del Morro, which is seriously like a mile from the cruise ship. The area is tourist friendly and of course uses dollars. Many people love the southern Caribbean. Especially since it is not the normal Disney itinerary. Having a classic ship is a bonus for most people. You will find that the itinerary is generally port intensive. So plan out any excursions well in advance, either with DCL or on your own. January is a fine time to escape the cold air that much of the US has during that time of year!
