Hi all,

I'm planning to do the WDW half marathon (my first). I was looking at the event schedule and have a question. If I don't intend to go to any of the Thursday events are there any compelling reasons why I should or need to go down that day? I ask because I can only go down for 4 days and I've been hearing/reading suggestions that you should rest up (e.g. no extensive park touring) the day before the race. So I'm thinking I'll arrive late thursday, go to a park Friday morning and leave after lunch then rest up the rest of the day, then reserve the bulk of my park touring for after the race. Thoughts?

You're right that it's suggested to stay off your feet before the half. I think that's how I'd do it if I had a more flexible schedule. Walking around the parks after the race (wearing your medal, of course) will be a great way to work out any lingering soreness you have.

But don't forget that you'll also need to go to the expo to pick up your race packet! :thumbsup2 So you'll need to fit that in on Friday as well.

Congrats on tackling your first half! You'll love it.

I don't do any of the events at the expo except pick up my packet and do some shopping so if you don't find anything that interests you then by all means don't go.

I'm semi local, so I always just come in the day before, or day of for night events. I just can't justify extra days off work, and as long as you are there in time to pickup your bib, you'll be fine.

I am moving this to the Events side of WISH where you may get more info. There are also threads with similar discussions you might check on the Events side.

Can you pick up packets for the full marathon on Saturday? We weren't planning on coming until Saturday morning to save on one night's accomodations. We're only 4 hours away.

Yes you can. We arrived on Saturday morning for the '12 marathon for the same reason and went to the Disney kids races for my son before picking up my packet for the marathon.

I think your plan is fine (and if you click edit and go to advance, you can edit the title!) Save your fun for after the race.
