Hi there

Been a lurker for ages but decided to join properly today! In the middle of an Olympics lull. :thumbsup2

Has anyone had any experience of this magazine?

Tales from the Laughing Place magazine (I can't post the link yet but you can google it for the link).

I came across it on another site. It ships to the UK and appears to be high quality about all of the parks - but the last two issues had the history of Epcot Center with Marty Sklar and Disney's Animal Kingdom with Joe Rohde:

Anyone a subscriber?

Cheers,

TJ

Cheers! :cool1:

Just spoke with a friend who has seen the magazine and said it is an incredible publication - full of artwork and cool photography and interviews with imagineers etc. I think I'll go subscribe. I noticed that it is for sale on eBay UK/USA too.

This is a well produced, informative magazine from the Laughing Place people and worth the money in my opinion.

Welcome TJ

Just taken a look at this...what's the laughing place?

Hey there Emily!

It is another fansite - laughingplace.com - and they also have a magazine that has been going for a while by the looks of it (there are 12 issues).

I can't post the link yet (I need an arbitrary ten posts it seems first which presumably is to stop people hawking stuff).

If you google tales from the laughing place magazine it takes you there.

Welcome to the DIS TJ. :goodvibes

I subscribe to Orlando attractions magazine which I would recommend! I have shopped at the laughing place but never notcied the magazine before - I think I will have a look. Thanks for the info. :thumbsup2

Emily - http://www.laughingplacestore.com/default.asp they are an online shop that sells merchandise from the WDW parks. You order what you want through the website and they go in and buy it from the park and send it to you. It is good and I have ordered from them a few times but they are quite expensive, also bare in mind that you get charged Customs on top of your P&P.

The magazine is good. My subscription has lapsed but I am now getting the Orlando Attractions magazine and have just signed up for Guide to the Magic.

I saw that Attractions magazine but it was a little "lite" for my liking - nothing above what websites can provide for free. I also don't typically visit the other parks in Orlando - just WDW so I'm not interested in what Universal etc. are doing.

Don't know the Guide to the Magic.

Why did you let you subscription lapse Mikki? Was it not for you?

I think I found it was not as interesting as I had hoped and that I wasn't reading all of it (or even much of the last couple). Good photography and they cover all the Disney parks around the world. I may start again sometime!

I just ordered it through LP Store - I look forward to receiving it. I noticed that some single issues were on eBay but the subscriptions are done through LP Store. I've only ordered CDs from them before but the service was excellent.

I visit Tokyo Disney Resort a lot (2+ times per year) and I'm delighted to find a magazine that covers Paris, Hong Kong and Tokyo as much as the US parks. One issue had the development of EuroDisneyland and it looks like it is going to be a fascinating read.

A friend of mine (who has subscribed since the first one) has said that the last couple have been exceptional - massive articles on the development of Epcot and DAK. He has scanned some of the pages to me and it does look amazing. A lot of exclusive artwork that Disney only give to them. I guess the earlier issues were them trying to find their feet etc.

Do you earn commission from them? :goodvibes :lmao:

I've had a quick look at the website & it looks good but i'm currently subscried to Orlando Attractions Magazine which I really enjoy as it contains lots of information on the other attractions in Orlando not just Disney.

LOL! Maybe I should ask!!

As I said - I just found Attractions to be very lite (and I never visit Universal/Sea World/Busch when I'm in FL). I visit a few websites that provide me with that info. I prefer to read in-depth stuff about how the attractions and shows are developed which is what this LP magazine seems to provide. My mate tells me that it is also very heavy as they print it on artbook paper.

Would love to hear what you and others make of Orlando Attractions magazine ?

I really enjoy it Reid. The current issue (no 5) came last week and is probably my favourite issue so far.

One of my favourite sections is a double page spread they do each issue called Work in progress, it shows what is under construction, completed or closing. In this issue it has a photo & small paragraph on the following, T-rex restaurant, the pathway from the contemporary to the new building, the area where Universals Rip Ride Rockit is going to be, Harry Potter site and more....

Some of the tips etc are things that I already knew (because of the DIS) but I have picked up the odd thing I never knew, for example I didn't know that most rides have a "chicken exit" so you can all queue up together and experience the themed queue but then exit without riding.

Other articles this month include a report on The Wave restaurant, Hyatt Regency Grand Cypress resort report, a letters page, a two page spread about Soarin, a report on Gatorland, a review of what to do in Orlando of a night.....lots more!

I hope this gives you a brief insight, I would definately recommend it to those who don't just go to Orlando for Disney as it contains lots of articles not relating to Disney. Hope this helps.
