Ugh! We are trying to plan our Disney vacation with our 7year daughter. The beginning of Oct is tempting (can get the value rate) or any other time before Thanksgiving. If we go in Oct, she would have to miss soccer (and school, but she's a good student and I'm not worried about that - LOL). Is there a difference in the weather? I'd prefer a low attendance week if possible. I know the schools in NJ are closed the first Thurs and Fri of Nov. We would have to avoid Halloween week as that is our daughter's most favorite holiday. Also need advise on either the POP or a moderate resort.

Hi, we're actually going end of Nov/beginning of Dec for value season and staying at POP. It seems to me that the biggest difference between value & moderate are the pools & also the fact that there are no sit down restaurants at value resorts. Anyhow our kids are small so the hotels don't matter much to us, we won't be there much and I'd rather spend the $ on food & souveniers. Have a great trip!

PS the fun thing about after Thanksgiving is the Christmas party starts - snow at MK!

I don't think you can go wrong, but... since you are lookin in Nov prior to Thanksgiving I would go the week before Halloween in Oct.

You could take advantage of Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party (the crowds get stronger at the party the closer to Halloween you get), lighter crowds, less humidity & better weather in general, & still be in value season. The Christmas season starts at WDW, so you can't take advantage of that in Nov.

My experience is that the very end of October to mid-November is a great time to go. The weather is nice, hurricane season is supposed to be over, and the crowds are light. We've done 2 trips at this time, and they were both pretty stress-free and laid back. Last year we went at the end of September (close to your beginning of October) and the heat & humidity were still a little much for my taste.
Some of this is during Regular season instead of Value season, so if cost is a concern there might be a slightly cheaper time. We chose the 2nd week of November for the next trip. Happy Planning ;)

If your DD loves Halloween she would probably love MNSSHP and the Food & Wine Fest at Epcot is lots of fun too. I've been twice in mid-late Oct. It can be hot but not too humid. I personally don't think the difference in cost from "value" to "regular" season is worth planning my trip around. It is a very small percentage difference when you add up all the costs. You only have to arrive during "value" season to get that rate for your whole stay so that might work for you.

I stayed at a value for the first time last Aug and really enjoyed it for our 3 night whirlwind stay. I would absolutely go value again but for me the difference is not so much pool or sit down (I'm going to POFQ in May that doesn't have sit down) but it is the amount of landscaping at the moderates. For a week long trip I would prefer a mod over value but I could absolutely go value if thats all I could afford and have a really magical trip.

We are regulars for both Oct and November and love that time of year! I think Oct can be a little hotter and maybe a little rainier, but it's always a crap shoot. Generally speaking the weather should be great and the crowds pretty low HOWEVER be wary of Jersey week. It is the week of Election Day in November (this week it would start Nov 5). The kids in the state of New Jersey gets off for Election day and then they have some other school holidays that week so the kids are basically off for most of that week. The entire state of New Jersey seems to descend upon WDW. We have seen a definite increase in crowds at that time. We are purposefully going to avoid that week from now on.

Good luck with your planning!

Ugh! I totally forgot about Jersey week. I'm originally from NJ so you would think I would have remembered that. We are going from 11/4-11/11. DH and I were originally planning to go in October, but he talked me into pushing it into Nov because he was hoping to avoid hurricane season as much as possible. Well hopefully it won't be too awfully crowded for us.

We have gone Sept 30-Oct 5 and also Nov 11-18.

November was much more tolerable for heat (we had days in the 90's this past october), and the crowds in November were much better too. It was cooler in november but we did swim and do a water park. I would go with November, try to hit the week after Jersery week, and before the thanksgiving week of course.
